1 N ow this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it;

»Éstos son los mandamientos, estatutos y decretos que el Señor su Dios me ordenó que les enseñara, para que los pongan por obra en la tierra de la cual van a tomar posesión.

2 t hat thou mightest fear Jehovah thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

Para que todos los días de tu vida, tú, Israel, y tus hijos, y los hijos de tus hijos, teman al Señor su Dios y cumplan todos los estatutos y mandamientos que yo les mando cumplir, para que sus días sean prolongados.

3 H ear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, hath promised unto thee, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

Oye, Israel, y asegúrate de ponerlos por obra, para que te vaya bien en la tierra que fluye leche y miel, y te multipliques, tal y como el Señor y Dios de tus padres te lo ha prometido.

4 H ear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah:

»Oye, Israel: el Señor nuestro Dios, el Señor es uno.

5 a nd thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Y amarás al Señor tu Dios con todo tu corazón, y con toda tu alma, y con todas tus fuerzas.

6 A nd these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart;

Estas palabras que hoy te mando cumplir estarán en tu corazón,

7 a nd thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

y se las repetirás a tus hijos, y hablarás de ellas cuando estés en tu casa, y cuando vayas por el camino, y cuando te acuestes y cuando te levantes.

8 A nd thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes.

Las atarás en tu mano como una señal, y las pondrás entre tus ojos como frontales,

9 A nd thou shalt write them upon the door-posts of thy house, and upon thy gates.

y las escribirás en los postes de tu casa, y en tus puertas. Exhortaciones a la obediencia

10 A nd it shall be, when Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee, great and goodly cities, which thou buildest not,

»Cuando el Señor tu Dios te haya introducido en la tierra que juró dar a tus padres Abrahán, Isaac y Jacob, y te dé ciudades grandes y buenas que tú no edificaste,

11 a nd houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and cisterns hewn out, which thou hewedst not, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou plantedst not, and thou shalt eat and be full;

y casas llenas de todo bien que tú no llenaste, y cisternas que tú no cavaste, y viñas y olivares que tú no plantaste, una vez que hayas comido y quedes satisfecho

12 t hen beware lest thou forget Jehovah, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

ten cuidado de no olvidarte del Señor, que te sacó de Egipto, donde eras esclavo.

13 T hou shalt fear Jehovah thy God; and him shalt thou serve, and shalt swear by his name.

Al Señor tu Dios temerás, y sólo a él servirás, y por su nombre jurarás.

14 Y e shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples that are round about you;

No se irán ustedes tras dioses ajenos, tras los dioses de los pueblos que están en sus contornos,

15 f or Jehovah thy God in the midst of thee is a jealous God; lest the anger of Jehovah thy God be kindled against thee, and he destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

porque el Señor tu Dios está en medio de ti, y es un Dios celoso. No sea que el furor del Señor tu Dios se encienda contra ti, y te borre de esta tierra.

16 Y e shall not tempt Jehovah your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

»No tentarán al Señor su Dios, como lo hicieron en Masah.

17 Y e shall diligently keep the commandments of Jehovah your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

Cumplan cuidadosamente los mandamientos, testimonios y estatutos que el Señor su Dios les ha ordenado cumplir.

18 A nd thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of Jehovah; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers,

Haz lo recto y lo bueno a los ojos del Señor, para que te vaya bien y entres y tomes posesión de la buena tierra que el Señor juró dar a tus padres,

19 t o thrust out all thine enemies from before thee, as Jehovah hath spoken.

y para que él arroje de tu presencia a tus enemigos, tal y como el Señor lo ha dicho.

20 W hen thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah our God hath commanded you?

»El día de mañana, cuando tu hijo te pregunte: “¿Qué significan los testimonios y estatutos y decretos que el Señor nuestro Dios les mandó cumplir?”,

21 t hen thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt: and Jehovah brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand;

le dirás: “En Egipto, éramos esclavos del faraón. Pero el Señor nos sacó de allá con mano poderosa.

22 a nd Jehovah showed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his house, before our eyes;

Ante nuestros propios ojos, el Señor realizó en Egipto grandes señales y milagros terribles contra el faraón y contra toda su casa.

23 a nd he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

Nos sacó de allá, para traernos aquí y darnos la tierra que juró dar a nuestros padres.

24 A nd Jehovah commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Jehovah our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as at this day.

El Señor nuestro Dios nos mandó cumplir todos estos estatutos, y temerlo, para que nos vaya bien siempre y él nos conserve la vida, como hasta el día de hoy.

25 A nd it shall be righteousness unto us, if we observe to do all this commandment before Jehovah our God, as he hath commanded us.

Si tenemos cuidado de poner por obra todos estos mandamientos delante del Señor nuestro Dios, como él nos lo ha mandado, tendremos justicia.”
