1 W oe to thee that destroyest, and thou wast not destroyed; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! When thou hast ceased to destroy, thou shalt be destroyed; and when thou hast made an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.

Vai de tine, nimicitorule, tu, care încă n-ai fost nimicit! Vai de tine, trădătorule, tu, care n-ai fost încă trădat de nimeni! Când vei înceta să mai distrugi, vei fi distrus şi când te vei opri din a mai trăda, vei fi trădat.

2 O Jehovah, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou our arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.

Doamne, fie-Ţi milă de noi! Noi nădăjduim în Tine! Fii tăria noastră în fiecare dimineaţă! Fii izbăvirea noastră în vreme de necaz!

3 A t the noise of the tumult the peoples are fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations are scattered.

Când răsună glasul Tău, popoarele fug; când Te ridici Tu, neamurile se împrăştie.

4 A nd your spoil shall be gathered as the caterpillar gathereth: as locusts leap shall men leap upon it.

Prada voastră, neamuri, este adunată aşa cum o adună lăcustele; ca un roi de lăcuste aşa se aruncă oamenii asupra ei.

5 J ehovah is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness.

Domnul este înălţat căci locuieşte în înălţimi. El umple Sionul cu judecată şi dreptate.

6 A nd there shall be stability in thy times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge: the fear of Jehovah is thy treasure.

El va fi siguranţă pentru vremurile tale, belşug de izbăviri, înţelepciune şi cunoaştere, iar frica de Domnul, aceasta va fi comoara Sionului.

7 B ehold, their valiant ones cry without; the ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.

Ascultă! Vitejii lor strigă pe drumuri, iar solii păcii plâng cu amar.

8 T he highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: the enemy hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth not man.

Drumurile sunt părăsite, nici un călător nu se mai află pe ele. Legământul este rupt, martorii sunt dispreţuiţi, nimeni nu mai este respectat.

9 T he land mourneth and languisheth; Lebanon is confounded and withereth away; Sharon is like a desert; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

Ţara geme şi se ofileşte; Libanul este făcut de ruşine şi se usucă; Şaronul este ca Araba, iar Başanul şi Carmelul îşi scutură frunzele.

10 N ow will I arise, saith Jehovah; now will I lift up myself; now will I be exalted.

«Acum Mă voi ridica, zice Domnul, acum Mă voi înălţa, acum voi fi înălţat!

11 Y e shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath is a fire that shall devour you.

Zămisliţi pleavă şi naşteţi paie; suflarea voastră este un foc care vă va nimici.

12 A nd the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime, as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.

Popoarele vor arde ca varul nestins, ca mărăcinii tăiaţi care ard în foc.

13 H ear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might.

Voi, cei de departe, auziţi ce am făcut! Voi, cei de aproape, recunoaşteţi-Mi puterea!»

14 T he sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling hath seized the godless ones: Who among us can dwell with the devouring fire? who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?

Păcătoşii sunt plini de teamă în Sion; înfiorarea i-a cuprins pe cei lipsiţi de evlavie: «Care dintre noi poate trăi lângă un foc mistuitor? Care dintre noi poate trăi lângă nişte flăcări veşnice?»

15 H e that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking a bribe, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil:

Cel ce umblă în dreptate şi vorbeşte ce este drept, cel ce dispreţuieşte câştigul din asuprire, cel ce îşi fereşte mâna de mită, cel ce îşi astupă urechea când aude despre vărsări de sânge şi îşi închide ochii să nu-l ademenească răul.

16 H e shall dwell on high; his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks; his bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

Acela va locui pe înălţimi; refugiul lui vor fi fortăreţele din munţi, pâinea îi va fi dată şi apa îi va fi asigurată.

17 T hine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold a land that reacheth afar.

Ochii tăi îl vor vedea pe Împărat în splendoarea Sa; vor vedea o ţară care se întinde până departe.

18 T hy heart shall muse on the terror: Where is he that counted, where is he that weighed the tribute? where is he that counted the towers?

Mintea ta va cugeta la groaza de dinainte, zicând: «Unde este scribul? Unde este cel ce cântăreşte tributul? Unde este cel ce numără turnurile ?»

19 T hou shalt not see the fierce people, a people of a deep speech that thou canst not comprehend, of a strange tongue that thou canst not understand.

Pe acei oameni aroganţi, pe cei cu vorbirea necunoscută, cu limba lor ciudată şi de neînţeles, nu-i vei mai vedea.

20 L ook upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tent that shall not be removed, the stakes whereof shall never be plucked up, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.

Priveşte Sionul, cetatea sărbătorilor noastre! Ochii tăi vor vedea Ierusalimul: o locuinţă liniştită, un cort ce nu se va mai muta; ţăruşii săi nu vor mai fi scoşi vreodată şi nici una dintre funiile sale nu va mai fi ruptă.

21 B ut there Jehovah will be with us in majesty, a place of broad rivers and streams, wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby.

Acolo, Domnul va fi Împăratul nostru măreţ; va fi un loc cu râuri şi canale largi, dar unde nu vor pătrunde corăbii cu vâsle şi nici vase mari nu vor naviga.

22 F or Jehovah is our judge, Jehovah is our lawgiver, Jehovah is our king; he will save us.

Căci Domnul este judecătorul nostru; Domnul este legiuitorul nostru, Domnul este împăratul nostru; El ne va izbăvi.

23 T hy tacklings are loosed; they could not strengthen the foot of their mast, they could not spread the sail: then was the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame took the prey.

Funiile tale slăbesc; ele nu mai pot sprijini catargul şi nu mai pot întinde pânzele. Atunci se va împărţi prada care va fi atât de multă, încât până şi ologii vor duce din ea.

24 A nd the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.

Nici un locuitor nu va zice: «Sunt bolnav!»; poporului ce locuieşte acolo îi va fi iertată vina.
