1 T hus saith Jehovah unto me, Go, and buy thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.

Aşa mi-a vorbit Domnul: „Du-te şi cumpără-ţi un brâu de in şi pune-l în jurul coapselor, dar să nu-l înmoi în apă.“

2 S o I bought a girdle according to the word of Jehovah, and put it upon my loins.

Am cumpărat brâul, după Cuvântul Domnului, şi l-am pus în jurul coapselor.

3 A nd the word of Jehovah came unto me the second time, saying,

Apoi Cuvântul Domnului mi-a vorbit a doua oară astfel:

4 T ake the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a cleft of the rock.

„Ia brâul pe care l-ai cumpărat şi pe care-l porţi în jurul coapselor, du-te de îndată la Eufrat şi ascunde-l acolo în crăpătura unei stânci.“

5 S o I went, and hid it by the Euphrates, as Jehovah commanded me.

M-am dus şi l-am ascuns la Eufrat, după porunca pe care mi-o dăduse Domnul.

6 A nd it came to pass after many days, that Jehovah said unto me, Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.

După mai multe zile, Domnul mi-a zis: „Scoală-te, du-te la Eufrat şi ia din acel loc brâul pe care ţi-am poruncit să-l ascunzi acolo.“

7 T hen I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.

M-am dus la Eufrat, am săpat şi am luat brâul din locul în care-l ascunsesem; dar iată că brâul era stricat şi nu mai era bun de nimic.

8 T hen the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi mi-a zis:

9 T hus saith Jehovah, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.

„Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Tot aşa voi distruge mândria lui Iuda şi mândria cea foarte mare a Ierusalimului.

10 T his evil people, that refuse to hear my words, that walk in the stubbornness of their heart, and are gone after other gods to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is profitable for nothing.

Poporul acesta rău refuză să asculte de cuvintele Mele. Ei umblă în încăpăţânarea inimii lor şi merg după alţi dumnezei ca să le slujească şi să li se închine. De aceea, el va ajunge ca brâul acesta, care nu mai este bun de nimic.

11 F or as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith Jehovah; that they may be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.

După cum se lipeşte brâul de coapsele unui om, aşa Îmi lipisem şi Eu întreaga casă a lui Israel şi întreaga casă a lui Iuda, zice Domnul, ca să fie poporul Meu, onoarea Numelui Meu, lauda Mea şi slava Mea. Dar ei nu au ascultat.»“ Imaginea burdufurilor de vin

12 T herefore thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

„Spune-le cuvintele acestea: «Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel: ‘Toate burdufurile de vin trebuie umplute!’» Şi dacă ei îţi vor zice: «Nu ştim noi oare că toate burdufurile de vin trebuie umplute?»,

13 T hen shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David's throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.

să le spui: «Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Iată, pe toţi locuitorii ţării acesteia, pe regii care stau pe tronul lui David, pe preoţi, pe profeţi şi pe toţi cei ce locuiesc în Ierusalim, îi voi umple de beţie.

14 A nd I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith Jehovah: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have compassion, that I should not destroy them.

Îi voi izbi unul de altul, pe părinţi şi pe fii laolaltă, zice Domnul. Nu-i voi cruţa, nu voi avea milă de ei şi nu mă voi îndura de ei, ci îi voi distruge.’»“

15 H ear ye, and give ear; be not proud; for Jehovah hath spoken.

„Ascultaţi şi luaţi aminte! Nu fiţi mândri, căci Domnul vorbeşte.

16 G ive glory to Jehovah your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, and make it gross darkness.

Daţi slavă Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, înainte ca El să aducă întunericul, înainte să vi se clatine picioarele pe munţii întunecaţi. Voi aşteptaţi lumina, dar El o va schimba într-o umbră a morţii, o va preface într-un întuneric adânc.

17 B ut if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret for your pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because Jehovah's flock is taken captive.

Dacă nu-L veţi asculta, sufletul meu va plânge în ascuns pentru mândria voastră; ochii mei vor plânge şi vor vărsa lacrimi pentru că turma Domnului va fi dusă în captivitate.“

18 S ay thou unto the king and to the queen-mother, Humble yourselves, sit down; for your headtires are come down, even the crown of your glory.

„Spune regelui şi reginei-mamă: «Smeriţi-vă! Plecaţi-vă, căci v-a căzut de pe cap cununa de glorie!»

19 T he cities of the South are shut up, and there is none to open them: Judah is carried away captive, all of it; it is wholly carried away captive.

Cetăţile din Neghev sunt închise şi nu e nimeni să le deschidă. Întreg Iuda este dus în captivitate, este exilat în întregime.“

20 L ift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where is the flock that was given thee, thy beautiful flock?

„Ridicaţi-vă ochii şi priviţi-i pe cei care vin din nord! Unde este turma care-ţi fusese încredinţată, turma ta cea frumoasă?

21 W hat wilt thou say, when he shall set over thee as head those whom thou hast thyself taught to be friends to thee? shall not sorrows take hold of thee, as of a woman in travail?

Ce vei spune când Domnul va pune conducători peste tine pe cei pe care i-ai obişnuit să-ţi fie prieteni apropiaţi? Nu te vor cuprinde durerile, ca pe o femeie la naştere?

22 A nd if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore are these things come upon me? for the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts uncovered, and thy heels suffer violence.

Tu te întrebi în inima ta: «De ce mi se întâmplă toate acestea?» Din cauza mulţimii nelegiuirilor tale ţi s-a ridicat poala hainei şi ţi-a fost dezgolit trupul.

23 C an the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? then may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.

Poate cuşitul să-şi schimbe pielea sau leopardul – petele? Tot aşa nici voi nu puteţi înfăptui binele, voi care sunteţi deprinşi să înfăptuiţi răul.

24 T herefore will I scatter them, as the stubble that passeth away, by the wind of the wilderness.

Vă voi risipi ca pleava luată de vântul pustiei.

25 T his is thy lot, the portion measured unto thee from me, saith Jehovah; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

Aceasta îţi este soarta, partea ta de la Mine, zice Domnul, pentru că M-ai uitat şi te-ai încrezut în minciuni.

26 T herefore will I also uncover thy skirts upon thy face, and thy shame shall appear.

Totodată îţi voi ridica poalele peste faţă, ca să ţi se vadă ruşinea,

27 I have seen thine abominations, even thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, on the hills in the field. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! thou wilt not be made clean; how long shall it yet be?

adulterele şi nechezaturile tale, desfrânările tale neruşinate! Am văzut scârboşeniile tale de pe dealuri şi din câmpii. Vai de tine, Ierusalime! Cât timp vei mai sta în necurăţie?“
