1 A nd it came to pass, at the time of the return of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that Joab led forth the army, and wasted the country of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried at Jerusalem. And Joab smote Rabbah, and overthrew it.

La începutul anului, pe vremea când regii porneau la război, Ioab şi-a condus luptătorii la război. Ei au pustiit ţara amoniţilor şi au asediat Raba. David însă rămăsese la Ierusalim. Ioab a cucerit Raba şi a distrus-o.

2 A nd David took the crown of their king from off his head, and found it to weigh a talent of gold, and there were precious stones in it; and it was set upon David's head: and he brought forth the spoil of the city, exceeding much.

David a luat de pe capul regelui lor coroana care cântărea un talant de aur şi care era împodobită cu pietre preţioase; ea a fost pusă pe capul lui David. Prada luată din cetate era foarte multă.

3 A nd he brought forth the people that were therein, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes. And thus did David unto all the cities of the children of Ammon. And David and all the people returned to Jerusalem.

Pe locuitorii cetăţii i-a scos afară şi i-a pus să muncească cu ferăstraie, cu grape de fier şi cu securi de fier. La fel a făcut David şi cu celelalte cetăţi amonite. Apoi David s-a întors la Ierusalim împreună cu întreaga oştire.

4 A nd it came to pass after this, that there arose war at Gezer with the Philistines: then Sibbecai the Hushathite slew Sippai, of the sons of the giant; and they were subdued.

După aceea a avut loc o bătălie împotriva filistenilor la Ghezer. Cu acest prilej, huşatitul Sibecai l-a ucis pe Sipai, unul dintre urmaşii refaiţilor. Şi filistenii au fost astfel supuşi.

5 A nd there was again war with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jair slew Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

În timpul unei alte lupte cu filistenii, Elhanan, fiul lui Iair, l-a ucis pe Lahmi, fratele lui Goliat ghititul, care avea o suliţă al cărei mâner era ca sulul unui ţesător.

6 A nd there was again war at Gath, where was a man of great stature, whose fingers and toes were four and twenty, six on each hand, and six on each foot; and he also was born unto the giant.

S-a mai dat o luptă la Gat. Acolo era un bărbat uriaş care avea câte şase degete la ambele mâini şi la ambele picioare – douăzeci şi patru în total. Şi acesta se trăgea din Rafa.

7 A nd when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother slew him.

El l-a batjocorit pe Israel, dar Ionatan, fiul lui Şimea, fratele lui David, l-a ucis.

8 T hese were born unto the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Aceştia i s-au născut lui Rafa în Gat; ei au fost ucişi de David şi de slujitorii săi.
