1 C all now; is there any that will answer thee? And to which of the holy ones wilt thou turn?

Strigă dacă vrei! Îţi va răspunde cineva? Spre care dintre cei sfinţi te vei întoarce?

2 F or vexation killeth the foolish man, And jealousy slayeth the silly one.

Mânia omoară pe nebun, iar aprinderea ucide pe cel nesăbuit.

3 I have seen the foolish taking root: But suddenly I cursed his habitation.

L-am văzut pe cel nebun prinzând rădăcini şi imediat i-am blestemat locuinţa.

4 H is children are far from safety, And they are crushed in the gate, Neither is there any to deliver them:

Copiii săi sunt departe de a fi în siguranţă, sunt zdrobiţi la poartă şi nu e nimeni să-i scape.

5 W hose harvest the hungry eateth up, And taketh it even out of the thorns; And the snare gapeth for their substance.

Cel flămând îi mănâncă secerişul, adunându-l chiar dintre spini, iar cel însetat râvneşte bogăţia lui.

6 F or affliction cometh not forth from the dust, Neither doth trouble spring out of the ground;

Pentru că nenorocirea nu iese din ţărână şi necazul nu răsare din pământ.

7 B ut man is born unto trouble, As the sparks fly upward.

Totuşi omul e născut pentru necaz, după cum scânteia e născută pentru zbor.

8 B ut as for me, I would seek unto God, And unto God would I commit my cause;

În ce mă priveşte, eu Îl voi căuta pe Dumnezeu şi lui Dumnezeu Îi voi spune starea mea.

9 W ho doeth great things and unsearchable, Marvellous things without number:

El face lucruri mari şi nepătrunse, minuni fără număr.

10 W ho giveth rain upon the earth, And sendeth waters upon the fields;

El dă ploaie pe pământ şi trimite ape pe câmpie.

11 S o that he setteth up on high those that are low, And those that mourn are exalted to safety.

Îi înalţă pe cei smeriţi şi celor în necaz le dă siguranţă.

12 H e frustrateth the devices of the crafty, So that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

El strică planurile celor vicleni şi astfel mâinile lor nu câştigă.

13 H e taketh the wise in their own craftiness; And the counsel of the cunning is carried headlong.

El îi prinde pe cei înţelepţi în viclenia lor, iar planurile celor înşelători sunt zădărnicite.

14 T hey meet with darkness in the day-time, And grope at noonday as in the night.

Ziua sunt în întuneric, iar la amiază bâjbâie ca în timpul nopţii.

15 B ut he saveth from the sword of their mouth, Even the needy from the hand of the mighty.

Îl scapă pe nevoiaş de sabia gurii lor şi din mâna celor puternici.

16 S o the poor hath hope, And iniquity stoppeth her mouth.

Astfel cel sărac are nădejde, iar nedreptăţii i se închide gura.

17 B ehold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: Therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty.

Fericit e omul pe care-l mustră Dumnezeu; deci nu dispreţui disciplinarea Celui Atotputernic.

18 F or he maketh sore, and bindeth up; He woundeth, and his hands make whole.

El răneşte, dar tot El leagă rana, El zdrobeşte, dar tot mâna Sa vindecă.

19 H e will deliver thee in six troubles; Yea, in seven there shall no evil touch thee.

Din şase necazuri te va scăpa şi nici în al şaptelea nu te va atinge nici un rău.

20 I n famine he will redeem thee from death; And in war from the power of the sword.

Te va scăpa de la moarte în timp de foamete şi de lovitura sabiei în timp de război.

21 T hou shalt be hid from the scourge of the tongue; Neither shalt thou be afraid of destruction when it cometh.

Vei fi adăpostit de biciul limbii şi nu te vei teme când va veni nenorocirea.

22 A t destruction and dearth thou shalt laugh; Neither shalt thou be afraid of the beasts of the earth.

Vei râde înaintea nenorocirii şi a foametei şi nu te vei teme de fiarele pământului.

23 F or thou shalt be in league with the stones of the field; And the beasts of the field shall be at peace with thee.

Pentru că vei face legământ cu pietrele câmpului, şi fiarele câmpului vor fi în pace cu tine.

24 A nd thou shalt know that thy tent is in peace; And thou shalt visit thy fold, and shalt miss nothing.

Îţi vei şti cortul în siguranţă şi când îţi vei căuta lucrurile nu vei găsi nimic lipsă.

25 T hou shalt know also that thy seed shall be great, And thine offspring as the grass of the earth.

Vei şti că vei avea mulţi copii, şi urmaşii tăi vor fi ca iarba pământului.

26 T hou shalt come to thy grave in a full age, Like as a shock of grain cometh in in its season.

Vei intra în mormânt încă în putere, ca un snop de grâu treierat la vremea lui.

27 L o this, we have searched it, so it is; Hear it, and know thou it for thy good.

Iată că noi am cercetat aceasta şi aşa este! Ascultă şi ia aminte la aceasta spre folosul tău!“
