1 M y son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up my commandments with thee;

Fiul meu, dacă vei primi cuvintele mele şi vei păstra în tine îndrumările mele,

2 S o as to incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thy heart to understanding;

dacă-ţi vei apleca urechea spre înţelepciune şi inima spre pricepere,

3 Y ea, if thou cry after discernment, And lift up thy voice for understanding;

dacă vei cere înţelepciune şi te vei ruga pentru pricepere,

4 I f thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures:

dacă o vei dori ca pe argint şi o vei căuta ca pe o comoară ascunsă,

5 T hen shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God.

atunci vei înţelege frica de Domnul şi vei găsi cunoştinţa lui Dumnezeu.

6 F or Jehovah giveth wisdom; Out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding:

Căci Domnul dă înţelepciune; din gura Lui iese cunoştinţă şi pricepere.

7 H e layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to them that walk in integrity;

El păstrează izbânda pentru cel drept şi este scut pentru cei ce umblă în integritate.

8 T hat he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his saints.

El păzeşte căile judecăţii şi protejează calea credincioşilor Lui.

9 T hen shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, And equity, yea, every good path.

Atunci vei înţelege dreptatea, corectitudinea şi integritatea; vei înţelege orice cale bună.

10 F or wisdom shall enter into thy heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul;

Căci înţelepciunea va veni în inima ta şi cunoaşterea va fi plăcută sufletului tău.

11 D iscretion shall watch over thee; Understanding shall keep thee:

Prudenţa te va proteja şi priceperea te va păzi.

12 T o deliver thee from the way of evil, From the men that speak perverse things;

Înţelepciunea te va scăpa de calea celui rău, de omul care vorbeşte lucruri stricate,

13 W ho forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness;

de cel ce părăseşte cărările dreptăţii, ca să umble pe căile întunericului,

14 W ho rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil;

căruia îi place să facă rău şi se bucură de perversitatea răului,

15 W ho are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths:

ale cărui cărări sunt întortocheate şi ale cărui drumuri sunt lăturalnice.

16 T o deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flattereth with her words;

Ea te va îndepărta de femeia adulteră, de străina care rosteşte cuvinte ademenitoare,

17 T hat forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God:

de cea care îşi părăseşte partenerul tinereţii ei şi uită legământul făcut înaintea Dumnezeului ei.

18 F or her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead;

Casa ei conduce spre moarte şi urmele ei duc la duhurile celor morţi.

19 N one that go unto her return again, Neither do they attain unto the paths of life:

Nimeni, din cei ce merg la ea, nu se mai întoarce, nici nu mai găseşte cărările vieţii.

20 T hat thou mayest walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous.

De aceea tu să mergi pe căile oamenilor buni şi să păstrezi cărările celor drepţi.

21 F or the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it.

Căci cei drepţi vor locui ţara şi cei integri vor rămâne în ea,

22 B ut the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

dar cei răi vor fi stârpiţi din ţară şi cei necredincioşi vor fi smulşi din ea.
