1 O Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Doamne, Tu mă cercetezi şi mă cunoşti!

2 T hou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising; Thou understandest my thought afar off.

Tu ştii când stau jos şi când mă ridic şi de departe îmi cunoşti gândurile.

3 T hou searchest out my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways.

Tu îmi cercetezi cărarea şi culcuşul şi toate căile mi le ştii îndeaproape.

4 F or there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.

Nici nu-mi ajunge cuvântul pe buze, că Tu, Doamne, îl şi cunoşti pe de-a-ntregul.

5 T hou hast beset me behind and before, And laid thy hand upon me.

Tu mă învălui pe dinapoi şi pe dinainte şi-Ţi pui mâna peste mine.

6 S uch knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain unto it.

O asemenea cunoştinţă este prea minunată pentru mine: este atât de înaltă, încât nu o pot pricepe.

7 W hither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Unde să plec dinaintea Duhului Tău, unde să fug dinaintea feţei Tale?

8 I f I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there.

Dacă mă sui în cer, Tu eşti acolo! Dacă îmi întind patul în Locuinţa Morţilor, iată-Te şi acolo!

9 I f I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Purtat de aripile zorilor, mă aşez la capătul mării,

10 E ven there shall thy hand lead me, And thy right hand shall hold me.

dar şi acolo mâna Ta mă conduce şi dreapta Ta mă apucă.

11 I f I say, Surely the darkness shall overwhelm me, And the light about me shall be night;

Dacă aş spune: „Sigur întunericul mă va ascunde, iar lumina dimprejurul meu se va preface în noapte“,

12 E ven the darkness hideth not from thee, But the night shineth as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

nici chiar întunericul nu este întunecos pentru Tine; noaptea luminează ca ziua, iar întunericul este ca lumina.

13 F or thou didst form my inward parts: Thou didst cover me in my mother's womb.

Tu mi-ai întocmit rărunchii; Tu m-ai ţesut în pântecele mamei mele.

14 I will give thanks unto thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Wonderful are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well.

Te laud că sunt o făptură atât de minunată – minunate sunt lucrările Tale! – şi sufletul meu ştie foarte bine aceasta.

15 M y frame was not hidden from thee, When I was made in secret, And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Oasele mele nu erau ascunse de Tine când am fost făcut într-un loc ascuns, când am fost ţesut în adâncimile pământului.

16 T hine eyes did see mine unformed substance; And in thy book they were all written, Even the days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was none of them.

Când eram doar un plod fără chip, ochii Tăi mă vedeau, iar în cartea Ta erau scrise toate zilele care mi-au fost hotărâte mai înainte să existe vreuna din ele.

17 H ow precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

Cât de greu de pătruns îmi sunt gândurile Tale, Dumnezeule! Cât de mare este numărul lor!

18 I f I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: When I awake, I am still with thee.

Când le număr, sunt mai multe decât boabele de nisip. Când mă trezesc, sunt tot cu Tine.

19 S urely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: Depart from me therefore, ye bloodthirsty men.

Dumnezeule, de l-ai ucide pe cel rău! Depărtaţi-vă de la mine, ucigaşilor!

20 F or they speak against thee wickedly, And thine enemies take thy name in vain.

Ei, care vorbesc de Tine în chip nelegiuit, duşmanii Tăi, care Îţi folosesc Numele în mod nesăbuit!

21 D o not I hate them, O Jehovah, that hate thee? And am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

Să nu-i urăsc pe cei ce Te urăsc, Doamne ? Să nu-mi fie scârbă de cei ce se ridică împotriva Ta?

22 I hate them with perfect hatred: They are become mine enemies.

Îi urăsc cu o ură desăvârşită: pentru mine, ei sunt nişte duşmani.

23 S earch me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts;

Cercetează-mă, Dumnezeule, şi cunoaşte-mi inima, încearcă-mă şi cunoaşte-mi frământările!

24 A nd see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

Vezi dacă sunt pe o cale rea şi du-mă pe calea veşniciei!
