1 A nd all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and made him king in the room of his father Amaziah.

Poporul lui Iuda l-a luat pe Uzia, care era în vârstă de şaisprezece ani şi l-a făcut rege în locul tatălui său, Amaţia.

2 H e built Eloth, and restored it to Judah, after that the king slept with his fathers.

Uzia a rezidit Elatul şi l-a readus sub stăpânirea lui Iuda, după ce regele Amaţia s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi.

3 S ixteen years old was Uzziah when he began to reign; and he reigned fifty and two years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jechiliah, of Jerusalem.

Uzia era în vârstă de şaisprezece ani când a devenit rege şi a domnit la Ierusalim timp de cincizeci şi doi de ani. Mama lui se numea Iecolia şi era din Ierusalim.

4 A nd he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah had done.

El a făcut ce este drept înaintea Domnului, tot aşa cum făcuse tatăl său, Amaţia.

5 A nd he set himself to seek God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the vision of God: and as long as he sought Jehovah, God made him to prosper.

El L-a căutat pe Dumnezeu în timpul vieţii lui Zaharia, cel care îl instruia în frica de Dumnezeu. Cât timp l-a căutat pe Domnul, Dumnezeu i-a dat izbândă.

6 A nd he went forth and warred against the Philistines, and brake down the wall of Gath, and the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and he built cities in the country of Ashdod, and among the Philistines.

Când a ieşit la luptă împotriva filistenilor, el a dărâmat zidurile cetăţii Gat, zidurile cetăţii Iabne, precum şi zidurile cetăţii Aşdod, după care a zidit cetăţi în apropiere de Aşdod şi pe întregul teritoriu al filistenilor.

7 A nd God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Meunim.

Dumnezeu l-a ajutat împotriva filistenilor, împotriva arabilor care locuiau la Gur-Baal şi împotriva meuniţilor.

8 A nd the Ammonites gave tribute to Uzziah: and his name spread abroad even to the entrance of Egypt; for he waxed exceeding strong.

Amoniţii i-au plătit tribut lui Uzia. I s-a dus faima până la hotarul Egiptului, pentru că ajunsese foarte puternic.

9 M oreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them.

Uzia a zidit turnuri în Ierusalim, la Poarta Unghiului, la Poarta Văii şi la contrafortul din unghiul zidului şi le-a întărit.

10 A nd he built towers in the wilderness, and hewed out many cisterns, for he had much cattle; in the lowland also, and in the plain: and he had husbandmen and vinedressers in the mountains and in the fruitful fields; for he loved husbandry.

A zidit turnuri în pustie şi a săpat multe fântâni, căci avea vite numeroase atât în zona deluroasă, cât şi în câmpie. El avea plugari şi vieri în regiunea muntoasă şi în văile fertile, căci îi plăcea să lucreze pământul.

11 M oreover Uzziah had an army of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their reckoning made by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the officer, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king's captains.

Uzia avea o oştire care purta războiul şi care ieşea la luptă pe divizii, după numărătoarea făcută de scribul Ieiel şi de dregătorul Maaseia, sub îndrumarea lui Hanania, una dintre căpeteniile regelui.

12 T he whole number of the heads of fathers' houses, even the mighty men of valor, was two thousand and six hundred.

Numărul total al căpeteniilor de familii, al războinicilor viteji, era de două mii şase sute.

13 A nd under their hand was an army, three hundred thousand and seven thousand and five hundred, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy.

Sub comanda lor, se afla oştirea alcătuită din trei sute şapte mii cinci sute de bărbaţi care purtau războiul prin puterea armelor, ajutându-l pe rege împotriva duşmanului.

14 A nd Uzziah prepared for them, even for all the host, shields, and spears, and helmets, and coats of mail, and bows, and stones for slinging.

Uzia a dotat toată oştirea cu scuturi, lănci, coifuri, platoşe, arcuri şi praştii.

15 A nd he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by skilful men, to be on the towers and upon the battlements, wherewith to shoot arrows and great stones. And his name spread far abroad; for he was marvellously helped, till he was strong.

A făcut la Ierusalim nişte maşinării inventate de un meşter, care aveau să fie aşezate pe turnuri şi pe colţuri pentru a arunca cu săgeţi şi cu pietre mari. Lui Uzia i s-a dus faima până departe, căci a fost ajutat în chip minunat, până a ajuns puternic.

16 B ut when he was strong, his heart was lifted up, so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against Jehovah his God; for he went into the temple of Jehovah to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

Dar când a ajuns puternic, i s-a îngâmfat inima spre pierzarea lui. El I-a fost necredincios Domnului, Dumnezeul lui, şi a intrat în Templul Domnului ca să ardă tămâie pe altarul tămâierii.

17 A nd Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him fourscore priests of Jehovah, that were valiant men:

Preotul Azaria a intrat după el, însoţit fiind de optzeci de bărbaţi curajoşi, dintre preoţii Domnului.

18 a nd they withstood Uzziah the king, and said unto him, It pertaineth not unto thee, Uzziah, to burn incense unto Jehovah, but to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense: go out of the sanctuary; for thou hast trespassed; neither shall it be for thine honor from Jehovah God.

Ei au stat împotriva regelui Uzia, zicându-i: „Uzia, nu-ţi este îngăduit să aduci tămâie Domnului! Doar preoţii, urmaşii lui Aaron, au fost sfinţiţi ca să aducă tămâie! Ieşi din Lăcaş! Pentru că ai fost necredincios, nu vei mai avea parte de cinste de la Domnul Dumnezeu!“

19 T hen Uzziah was wroth; and he had a censer in his hand to burn incense; and while he was wroth with the priests, the leprosy brake forth in his forehead before the priests in the house of Jehovah, beside the altar of incense.

Uzia, care avea deja în mână cădelniţa pentru tămâiere, s-a înfuriat. În momentul în care s-a înfuriat pe preoţi, i-a apărut lepră pe frunte, chiar acolo, în prezenţa preoţilor, în Casa Domnului, lângă altarul tămâierii.

20 A nd Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out quickly from thence; yea, himself hasted also to go out, because Jehovah had smitten him.

Când preotul conducător Azaria şi ceilalţi preoţi s-au întors spre el, au văzut că avea lepră pe frunte, astfel că l-au scos în grabă de acolo. De altfel, el însuşi s-a grăbit să iasă, căci îl lovise Domnul.

21 A nd Uzziah the king was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a separate house, being a leper; for he was cut off from the house of Jehovah: and Jotham his son was over the king's house, judging the people of the land.

Regele Uzia a rămas lepros până în ziua morţii lui. Pentru că era lepros, el a fost îndepărtat de la Casa Domnului şi a locuit într-o casă izolată. Cel care supraveghea palatul regelui şi judeca poporul ţării era fiul său Iotam.

22 N ow the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write.

Celelalte fapte ale lui Uzia, de la început până la sfârşit, au fost scrise de profetul Isaia, fiul lui Amoţ.

23 S o Uzziah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the field of burial which belonged to the kings; for they said, He is a leper: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

Uzia s-a culcat alături de părinţii săi şi a fost înmormântat alături de părinţii săi, în ogorul de înmormântare care aparţinea regilor, deoarece spuneau: „A fost lepros.“ Şi în locul lui a domnit fiul său Iotam.
