1 N ow Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in the house of Jehovah, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things.

Preotul Paşhur, fiul lui Imer, supraveghetor de seamă în Casa Domnului, l-a auzit pe Ieremia profeţind aceste lucruri.

2 T hen Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Jehovah.

Şi Paşhur l-a lovit pe profetul Ieremia şi l-a pus în butucii care se aflau la Poarta de Sus a lui Beniamin, în Casa Domnului.

3 A nd it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, Jehovah hath not called thy name Pashhur, but Magor-missabib.

Totuşi, a doua zi, Paşhur l-a scos pe Ieremia din butuci. Ieremia i-a zis atunci: „ Domnul nu te mai numeşte Paşhur, ci Magor-Misabib,

4 F or thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends; and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it; and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive to Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.

căci aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Iată, te voi face să fii o groază atât pentru tine, cât şi pentru toţi prietenii tăi. Aceştia vor cădea ucişi de sabia duşmanilor lor şi ochii tăi vor vedea lucrul acesta. Îi voi da, de asemenea, pe toţi cei din Iuda în mâinile împăratului Babilonului, care-i va duce captivi în Babilon şi-i va ucide cu sabia.

5 M oreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all the gains thereof, and all the precious things thereof, yea, all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies; and they shall make them a prey, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.

Toate bogăţiile cetăţii acesteia, tot rodul muncii ei, tot ce are ea mai scump şi toate bogăţiile regilor lui Iuda le voi da în mâinile duşmanilor lor. Aceştia le vor jefui, le vor lua şi le vor duce în Babilon.

6 A nd thou, Pashhur, and all that dwell in thy house shall go into captivity; and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and there shalt thou be buried, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.

Chiar şi tu, Paşhur, şi toţi cei ce locuiesc în casa ta veţi merge în captivitate în Babilon. Acolo vei muri şi acolo vei fi îngropat, tu şi toţi prietenii tăi, cărora le-ai profeţit minciuni.»“ Plângerea lui Ieremia

7 O Jehovah, thou hast persuaded me, and I was persuaded; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am become a laughing-stock all the day, every one mocketh me.

„M-ai convins, Doamne, şi eu m-am lăsat convins. Ai fost mai tare decât mine şi m-ai biruit. Sunt o pricină de râs toată ziua; toţi îşi bat joc de mine,

8 F or as often as I speak, I cry out; I cry, Violence and destruction! because the word of Jehovah is made a reproach unto me, and a derision, all the day.

căci, ori de câte ori vorbesc, trebuie să strig, să proclam: «Violenţă şi distrugere!». Cuvântul Domnului îmi aduce batjocură şi ruşine toată ziua.

9 A nd if I say, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name, then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I am weary with forbearing, and I cannot contain.

Dacă mă gândesc să nu mai amintesc de El şi să nu mai vorbesc în Numele Lui, iată că în inima mea este ceva ca un foc mistuitor, un foc închis în oasele mele. Caut să-l opresc, dar nu pot.

10 F or I have heard the defaming of many, terror on every side. Denounce, and we will denounce him, say all my familiar friends, they that watch for my fall; peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.

Căci aud şuşoteala multora, «Teroare din toate părţile! Învinuiţi-l! Haideţi să-l învinuim!» Toţi cei ce trăiau în pace cu mine pândesc acum să vadă dacă mă clatin şi zic: «Poate că se va lăsa convins; ne vom impune asupra lui şi ne vom răzbuna pe el!»

11 B ut Jehovah is with me as a mighty one and a terrible: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail; they shall be utterly put to shame, because they have not dealt wisely, even with an everlasting dishonor which shall never be forgotten.

Dar Domnul este cu mine ca un viteaz înfiorător! De aceea, cei ce mă urmăresc se vor poticni şi nu vor birui. Vor fi plini de ruşine, căci nu vor reuşi, plini de o ruşine veşnică, care nu va fi uitată.

12 B ut, O Jehovah of hosts, that triest the righteous, that seest the heart and the mind, let me see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

Şi acum, Doamne al Oştirilor, Care cercetezi pe cel drept, Care pătrunzi inima şi mintea, lasă-mă să văd răzbunarea Ta împotriva lor! Căci Ţie mi-am încredinţat cauza.

13 S ing unto Jehovah, praise ye Jehovah; for he hath delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evil-doers.

Cântaţi Domnului! Lăudaţi pe Domnul, căci El salvează sufletul celui nevoiaş din mâinile răufăcătorilor.

14 C ursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed.

Blestemată să fie ziua în care m-am născut! Ziua în care m-a născut mama mea să nu fie binecuvântată!

15 C ursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man-child is born unto thee; making him very glad.

Blestemat să fie omul care a adus vestea tatălui meu şi i-a zis: «Ţi s-a născut un copil, un fiu!», umplându-l de bucurie cu ea!

16 A nd let that man be as the cities which Jehovah overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear a cry in the morning, and shouting at noontime;

Omul acela să fie ca cetăţile pe care Domnul le-a distrus fără milă! Să audă gemete dimineaţa şi strigăte de război la amiază!

17 b ecause he slew me not from the womb; and so my mother would have been my grave, and her womb always great.

Căci nu m-a omorât în pântecele mamei, ca să-mi fi fost ea mormântul şi pântecele ei să mă fi păstrat pe vecie.

18 W herefore came I forth out of the womb to see labor and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?

De ce am ieşit din pântecele mamei ca să văd necazul şi suferinţa şi să-mi sfârşesc zilele în durere?“
