1 T he priests the Levites, even all the tribe of Levi, shall have no portion nor inheritance with Israel: they shall eat the offerings of Jehovah made by fire, and his inheritance.

Preoţii leviţi – întreaga seminţie a lui Levi – să nu aibă teritoriu sau moştenire împreună cu Israel. Ei vor trăi din jertfele mistuite de foc în cinstea Domnului, pentru că acestea sunt moştenirea lor.

2 A nd they shall have no inheritance among their brethren: Jehovah is their inheritance, as he hath spoken unto them.

Să nu moştenească nimic în mijlocul poporului lor, căci Domnul este moştenirea lor, după cum le-a promis.

3 A nd this shall be the priests' due from the people, from them that offer a sacrifice, whether it be ox or sheep, that they shall give unto the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.

Iată care este partea cuvenită preoţilor, când poporul jertfeşte un bou sau o oaie: să le daţi preoţilor spata, fălcile şi viscerele.

4 T he first-fruits of thy grain, of thy new wine, and of thine oil, and the first of the fleece of thy sheep, shalt thou give him.

De asemenea, să le daţi cele dintâi roade din grânele, mustul şi uleiul vostru, precum şi prima lână de la tunsul turmelor voastre,

5 F or Jehovah thy God hath chosen him out of all thy tribes, to stand to minister in the name of Jehovah, him and his sons for ever.

fiindcă Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, i-a ales pe ei şi pe urmaşii lor, dintre toate seminţiile, ca să stea şi să slujească în Numele Domnului în toate zilele vieţii lor.

6 A nd if a Levite come from any of thy gates out of all Israel, where he sojourneth, and come with all the desire of his soul unto the place which Jehovah shall choose;

Dacă un levit se va muta din cetatea în care el trăieşte în Israel şi se va duce după propria-i dorinţă într-un alt loc pe care Domnul îl va alege,

7 t hen he shall minister in the name of Jehovah his God, as all his brethren the Levites do, who stand there before Jehovah.

iar acolo va sluji în Numele Domnului, Dumnezeul lui, asemenea fraţilor lui leviţi, care slujesc acolo în prezenţa Domnului,

8 T hey shall have like portions to eat, besides that which cometh of the sale of his patrimony.

el va trebui să primească ca hrană o parte egală cu a lor, pe lângă ceea ce vinde din moştenirea familiei. Practici detestate de Domnul

9 W hen thou art come into the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

După ce veţi intra în ţara pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, v-o dă, să nu învăţaţi să vă îndeletniciţi cu practicile scârboase ale acelor neamuri.

10 T here shall not be found with thee any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one that useth divination, one that practiseth augury, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer,

Să nu existe nimeni care să-şi treacă fiul sau fiica prin foc, care să se îndeletnicească cu ghicirea, prezicerea, tălmăcirea semnelor, vrăjitoria,

11 o r a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

care să arunce vrăji, care să cheme duhurile şi să descânte sau care să caute pe cei morţi,

12 F or whosoever doeth these things is an abomination unto Jehovah: and because of these abominations Jehovah thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

pentru că oricine se îndeletniceşte cu toate aceste lucruri este o urâciune înaintea Domnului. Căci din cauza acestor lucruri va izgoni Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, dinaintea voastră aceste neamuri.

13 T hou shalt be perfect with Jehovah thy God.

Voi să fiţi pe deplin ai Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru.

14 F or these nations, that thou shalt dispossess, hearken unto them that practise augury, and unto diviners; but as for thee, Jehovah thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

Neamurile acestea, pe care voi le veţi cuceri, ascultă de cei ce se îndeletnicesc cu prezicerea şi ghicirea; vouă însă Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, nu vă dă voie să vă îndeletniciţi cu aşa ceva. Un Profet asemenea lui Moise

15 J ehovah thy God will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, vă va ridica dintre fraţii voştri un Profet asemenea mie. De El să ascultaţi!

16 a ccording to all that thou desiredst of Jehovah thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of Jehovah my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.

Căci aceasta este ceea ce aţi cerut de la Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, la Horeb în ziua adunării, când ziceaţi: «Să nu mai auzim glasul Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, şi să nu mai vedem focul acesta mare ca să nu murim!»

17 A nd Jehovah said unto me, They have well said that which they have spoken.

Cu acel prilej Domnul mi-a vorbit astfel: «Ceea ce au spus ei este bine.

18 I will raise them up a prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

Le voi ridica, din mijlocul poporului lor, un Profet asemenea ţie. Voi pune cuvintele Mele în gura Lui, iar El le va vorbi tot ceea ce-I voi porunci.

19 A nd it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.

Dacă cineva nu va asculta de cuvintele pe care le va spune în Numele Meu, Eu îi voi cere socoteală.

20 B ut the prophet, that shall speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.

Însă profetul care va îndrăzni să vorbească în Numele Meu un cuvânt pe care Eu nu i l-am poruncit să-l spună sau care va vorbi în numele altor dumnezei, acel profet va trebui să moară.»

21 A nd if thou say in thy heart, How shall we know the word which Jehovah hath not spoken?

Poate vă veţi întreba: «Cum vom recunoaşte cuvântul pe care nu l-a rostit Domnul ?»

22 w hen a prophet speaketh in the name of Jehovah, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which Jehovah hath not spoken: the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously, thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Dacă cuvântul pe care-l va rosti profetul în Numele Domnului nu se va adeveri sau nu se va împlini, acel cuvânt nu a fost rostit de Domnul. Profetul a vorbit din îngâmfare; să nu vă fie teamă de el.
