1 N ow after these things, in the reign of Artaxerxes king of Persia, Ezra the son of Seraiah, the son of Azariah, the son of Hilkiah,

După toate acestea, iată ce s-a întâmplat în timpul domniei lui Artaxerxes, împăratul Persiei. Ezra era fiul lui Seraia, fiul lui Azaria, fiul lui Hilchia,

2 t he son of Shallum, the son of Zadok, the son of Ahitub,

fiul lui Şalum, fiul lui Ţadok, fiul lui Ahitub,

3 t he son of Amariah, the son of Azariah, the son of Meraioth,

fiul lui Amaria, fiul lui Azaria, fiul lui Meraiot,

4 t he son of Zerahiah, the son of Uzzi, the son of Bukki,

fiul lui Zerahia, fiul lui Uzi, fiul lui Buchi,

5 t he son of Abishua, the son of Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the chief priest;

fiul lui Abişua, fiul lui Fineas, fiul lui Elazar, fiul lui Aaron, preotul conducător.

6 t his Ezra went up from Babylon: and he was a ready scribe in the law of Moses, which Jehovah, the God of Israel, had given; and the king granted him all his request, according to the hand of Jehovah his God upon him.

Ezra acesta a venit din Babilon. El era un cărturar priceput în Legea lui Moise, dată de Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel. Şi, pentru că mâna Domnului, Dumnezeul său, era peste el, împăratul i-a dat tot ce ceruse.

7 A nd there went up some of the children of Israel, and of the priests, and the Levites, and the singers, and the porters, and the Nethinim, unto Jerusalem, in the seventh year of Artaxerxes the king.

Unii dintre israeliţi, dintre preoţi, dintre leviţi, dintre cântăreţi, dintre portari şi dintre slujitorii de la Templu au venit şi ei la Ierusalim în al şaptelea an al domniei împăratului Artaxerxes.

8 A nd he came to Jerusalem in the fifth month, which was in the seventh year of the king.

Ezra a sosit la Ierusalim în luna a cincea, în cel de-al şaptelea an de domnie al împăratului.

9 F or upon the first day of the first month began he to go up from Babylon; and on the first day of the fifth month came he to Jerusalem, according to the good hand of his God upon him.

Ezra plecase din Babilon în prima zi a lunii întâi şi a ajuns la Ierusalim în prima zi a lunii a cincea, căci mâna cea bună a Dumnezeului său a fost peste el.

10 F or Ezra had set his heart to seek the law of Jehovah, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and ordinances.

Ezra se hotărâse în inima lui să cerceteze Legea Domnului, să o împlinească şi să înveţe pe Israel poruncile şi hotărârile ei. Scrisoarea lui Artaxerxes şi însărcinarea lui Ezra

11 N ow this is the copy of the letter that the king Artaxerxes gave unto Ezra the priest, the scribe, even the scribe of the words of the commandments of Jehovah, and of his statutes to Israel:

Iată o copie a scrisorii date de împăratul Artaxerxes preotului şi cărturarului Ezra, un învăţat în ce priveşte poruncile Domnului şi reglementările Lui cu privire la Israel:

12 A rtaxerxes, king of kings, unto Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, perfect and so forth.

„Artaxerxes, împăratul împăraţilor, către Ezra, preotul şi cărturarul Legii Dumnezeului cerurilor, Sănătate!

13 I make a decree, that all they of the people of Israel, and their priests and the Levites, in my realm, that are minded of their own free will to go to Jerusalem, go with thee.

Am dat poruncă să se dea drumul tuturor celor din poporul lui Israel aflaţi în împărăţia mea, inclusiv preoţilor şi leviţilor, care doresc să meargă la Ierusalim împreună cu tine.

14 F orasmuch as thou art sent of the king and his seven counsellors, to inquire concerning Judah and Jerusalem, according to the law of thy God which is in thy hand,

Cu privire la cele de mai înainte, tu eşti trimis de împărat şi de cei şapte sfetnici ai săi ca să cercetezi Iuda şi Ierusalimul în ce priveşte Legea Dumnezeului tău, Lege pe care o ai în mână,

15 a nd to carry the silver and gold, which the king and his counsellors have freely offered unto the God of Israel, whose habitation is in Jerusalem,

şi să duci argintul şi aurul pe care împăratul şi sfetnicii săi l-au dăruit de bunăvoie Dumnezeului lui Israel, Care Îşi are Lăcaşul la Ierusalim,

16 a nd all the silver and gold that thou shalt find in all the province of Babylon, with the freewill-offering of the people, and of the priests, offering willingly for the house of their God which is in Jerusalem;

precum şi tot argintul şi aurul pe care îl vei obţine în tot ţinutul Babilonului împreună cu darurile de bunăvoie ale poporului şi ale preoţilor, oferite pentru Casa lui Dumnezeu de la Ierusalim.

17 t herefore thou shalt with all diligence buy with this money bullocks, rams, lambs, with their meal-offerings and their drink-offerings, and shalt offer them upon the altar of the house of your God which is in Jerusalem.

Prin urmare, cu banii aceştia să cumperi de îndată viţei, berbeci, miei, daruri de mâncare şi daruri de băutură, ca să le oferi pe altarul Casei lui Dumnezeu din Ierusalim.

18 A nd whatsoever shall seem good to thee and to thy brethren to do with the rest of the silver and the gold, that do ye after the will of your God.

Cu argintul şi aurul care va mai rămâne să faceţi, după voia lui Dumnezeu, ceea ce tu şi rudele tale credeţi că este mai bine.

19 A nd the vessels that are given thee for the service of the house of thy God, deliver thou before the God of Jerusalem.

Uneltele care ţi-au fost date pentru slujba de la Casa lui Dumnezeu să le prezinţi înaintea lui Dumnezeu, la Ierusalim.

20 A nd whatsoever more shall be needful for the house of thy God, which thou shalt have occasion to bestow, bestow it out of the king's treasure-house.

Celelalte cheltuieli pe care le vei avea de făcut pentru Templul Dumnezeului tău să le suporţi din vistieria imperială.

21 A nd I, even I Artaxerxes the king, do make a decree to all the treasurers that are beyond the River, that whatsoever Ezra the priest, the scribe of the law of the God of heaven, shall require of you, it be done with all diligence,

Eu, împăratul Artaxerxes, dau următoarea poruncă tuturor vistiernicilor din provincia de peste râu: tot ce vă va cere Ezra, preotul şi cărturarul Legii Dumnezeului cerurilor, să i se dea de îndată

22 u nto a hundred talents of silver, and to a hundred measures of wheat, and to a hundred baths of wine, and to a hundred baths of oil, and salt without prescribing how much.

până la valoarea de o sută de talanţi de argint, până la o sută de cori de grâu, până la o sută de baţi de vin şi până la o sută de baţi de ulei, iar în ce priveşte sarea – fără limită.

23 W hatsoever is commanded by the God of heaven, let it be done exactly for the house of the God of heaven; for why should there be wrath against the realm of the king and his sons?

Să se facă de îndată tot ceea ce a poruncit Dumnezeul cerurilor cu privire la Templul Dumnezeului cerurilor, ca să nu vină mânia Lui peste împărăţia împăratului şi a fiilor săi.

24 A lso we certify you, that touching any of the priests and Levites, the singers, porters, Nethinim, or servants of this house of God, it shall not be lawful to impose tribute, custom, or toll, upon them.

De asemenea, vă mai facem cunoscut că nu aveţi voie să puneţi tribut, dare sau taxe de trecere nici asupra preoţilor, leviţilor, cântăreţilor, portarilor sau slujitorilor de la Templu şi nici asupra altor slujitori ai acestui Templu al lui Dumnezeu.

25 A nd thou, Ezra, after the wisdom of thy God that is in thy hand, appoint magistrates and judges, who may judge all the people that are beyond the River, all such as know the laws of thy God; and teach ye him that knoweth them not.

Iar tu, Ezra, după înţelepciunea Dumnezeului tău cu care ai fost înzestrat, numeşte magistraţi şi judecători ca să facă dreptate întregului popor din provincia de peste râu, şi anume tuturor acelora care cunosc legile Dumnezeului tău, iar celor care nu le cunosc, să li le faceţi cunoscute.

26 A nd whosoever will not do the law of thy God, and the law of the king, let judgment be executed upon him with all diligence, whether it be unto death, or to banishment, or to confiscation of goods, or to imprisonment.

Toţi aceia care nu vor împlini Legea Dumnezeului tău şi legea împăratului să fie judecaţi imediat şi condamnaţi la moarte, la exil, la confiscarea averii sau la temniţă.“

27 B lessed be Jehovah, the God of our fathers, who hath put such a thing as this in the king's heart, to beautify the house of Jehovah which is in Jerusalem;

Binecuvântat să fie Domnul, Dumnezeul strămoşilor noştri, Care a pus în inima împăratului dorinţa să onoreze Casa lui Dumnezeu din Ierusalim

28 a nd hath extended lovingkindness unto me before the king, and his counsellors, and before all the king's mighty princes. And I was strengthened according to the hand of Jehovah my God upon me, and I gathered together out of Israel chief men to go up with me.

şi a îndreptat spre mine bunăvoinţa împăratului, a sfetnicilor săi şi a tuturor comandanţilor săi puternici. Întărit de mâna Dumnezeului meu, care era peste mine, am convocat căpeteniile lui Israel ca să meargă împreună cu mine.
