1 C omfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

„Mângâiaţi, mângâiaţi pe poporul Meu! zice Dumnezeul vostru.

2 S peak ye comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.

Vorbiţi blând Ierusalimului şi strigaţi-i că truda lui s-a sfârşit, că vina lui este ispăşită, căci a primit din mâna Domnului pedeapsă îndoită pentru toate păcatele sale!“

3 T he voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.

„Un glas strigă în pustie: «Pregătiţi calea Domnului, neteziţi în deşert un drum pentru Dumnezeul nostru!

4 E very valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain:

Orice vale va fi înălţată şi orice munte şi deal va fi aplecat; orice râpă va deveni netedă şi orice povârniş se va preface în câmpie.

5 a nd the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.

Atunci se va arăta slava Domnului, şi oamenii o vor vedea cu toţii împreună, căci gura Domnului a vorbit.»

6 T he voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field.

Un glas zice: «Strigă!» «Ce să strig?», am întrebat eu. «Orice făptură este ca iarba şi toată gloria ei este ca floarea de pe câmp!

7 T he grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass.

Iarba se usucă, iar floarea cade când suflarea Domnului vine peste ea!» Într-adevăr, ca iarba este poporul!

8 T he grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God shall stand forever.

Iarba se usucă, iar floarea cade, însă Cuvântul Dumnezeului nostru rămâne pe vecie.

9 O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee up on a high mountain; O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold, your God!

Suie-te pe un munte înalt, Sioane, aducător de veşti bune! Înalţă-ţi glasul cu putere, Ierusalime, aducător de veşti bune! Înalţă-l, nu te teme! Spune cetăţilor lui Iuda: «Iată-L pe Dumnezeul vostru!»

10 B ehold, the Lord Jehovah will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him: Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.

Iată, Stăpânul Domn vine cu putere, stăpânind prin braţul Său. Plata Lui vine cu El şi răsplata Lui Îl însoţeşte.

11 H e will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and will gently lead those that have their young.

El Îşi va paşte turma ca un păstor; Îşi va strânge mieii în braţe, îi va lua la piept şi va călăuzi blând oile care alăptează.

12 W ho hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

Cine a măsurat apele în palma lui şi a trasat cerurile cu lăţimea palmei? Cine a strâns pulberea pământului într-o măsură? Cine a cântărit munţii cu cântarul şi dealurile cu o cumpănă?

13 W ho hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

Cine a cercetat Duhul Domnului şi cine L-a îndrumat ca sfătuitor al Său?

14 W ith whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

Cu cine s-a sfătuit El ca să fie luminat? Cine L-a învăţat calea dreptăţii? Cine L-a învăţat cunoaşterea şi I-a arătat cărarea priceperii?

15 B ehold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: Behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

Iată, neamurile sunt ca o picătură de apă într-o găleată, sunt considerate ca praful de pe cântar. Pentru El, insulele nu cântăresc mai mult decât un fir de praf.

16 A nd Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering.

Libanul nu ajunge pentru foc, nici animalele lui pentru arderea de tot.

17 A ll the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

Toate neamurile sunt un nimic înaintea Lui; mai puţin decât nimic şi deşertăciune preţuiesc ele în faţa Sa.

18 T o whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

Cu cine, deci, L-aţi putea asemăna pe Dumnezeu? Ce imagine aţi putea găsi pentru El?

19 T he image, a workman hath cast it, and the goldsmith overlayeth it with gold, and casteth for it silver chains.

Un idol? – un meşter îl toarnă şi apoi un aurar îl poleieşte cu aur şi îi face lănţişoare de argint.

20 H e that is too impoverished for such an oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilful workman to set up a graven image, that shall not be moved.

Săracul, care nu-şi permite aceasta, alege un lemn ce nu putrezeşte şi îşi caută un meşter iscusit pentru ca acesta să-i facă un idol care să nu se clatine.

21 H ave ye not known? have yet not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

Nu ştiţi? N-aţi auzit? Nu vi s-a făcut cunoscut de la început? N-aţi învăţat nimic de la întemeierea pământului?

22 I t is he that sitteth above the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;

El este Cel Ce şade deasupra cercului pământului, ai cărui locuitori par nişte lăcuste. El este Cel Ce întinde cerurile ca pe un baldachin şi le desfăşoară ca pe un cort de locuit.

23 t hat bringeth princes to nothing; that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

El este Cel Ce îi preface pe prinţi în nimic, iar pe conducătorii pământului ca şi cum n-ar exista.

24 Y ea, they have not been planted; yea, they have not been sown; yea, their stock hath not taken root in the earth: moreover he bloweth upon them, and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.

De abia sunt sădiţi, de abia sunt semănaţi, de abia li s-au înrădăcinat tulpinile în pământ, că El şi suflă peste ei, uscându-i, iar vijelia îi ia ca pe nişte paie.

25 T o whom then will ye liken me, that I should be equal to him? saith the Holy One.

«Deci, cu cine M-aţi putea asemăna? Cine Mi-ar putea fi egal?» zice Cel Sfânt.

26 L ift up your eyes on high, and see who hath created these, that bringeth out their host by number; he calleth them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

Ridicaţi-vă ochii spre ceruri şi priviţi: Cine a creat toate acestea? El, Cel Care face să apară oştirile lor una câte una, chemându-le pe nume. Atât de mare este tăria Lui, atât de tare este puterea Lui, că nici una nu lipseşte.

27 W hy sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and the justice due to me is passed away from my God?

De ce spui, Iacove, de ce zici, Israele: «Calea mea este ascunsă de Domnul şi dreptul meu nu este luat în seamă de Dumnezeul meu?»

28 H ast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding.

Nu ştii? N-ai auzit? Domnul este Dumnezeul cel Veşnic, creatorul marginilor pământului. El nu oboseşte, nici nu osteneşte, iar priceperea Lui este de nepătruns.

29 H e giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength.

El dă putere celui obosit şi îl întăreşte pe cel fără putere.

30 E ven the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

Flăcăii vor obosi şi vor osteni, tinerii se vor împiedica şi vor cădea,

31 b ut they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

dar cei ce se încred în Domnul îşi vor înnoi puterea, se vor înălţa prinzând aripi ca vulturii, vor alerga şi nu vor osteni, vor umbla şi nu vor obosi.
