1 O Jehovah, thou hast searched me, and known me.

Senhor, tu me sondas, e me conheces.

2 T hou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising; Thou understandest my thought afar off.

Tu conheces o meu sentar e o meu levantar; de longe entendes o meu pensamento.

3 T hou searchest out my path and my lying down, And art acquainted with all my ways.

Esquadrinhas o meu andar, e o meu deitar, e conheces todos os meus caminhos.

4 F or there is not a word in my tongue, But, lo, O Jehovah, thou knowest it altogether.

Sem que haja uma palavra na minha língua, eis que, ó Senhor, tudo conheces.

5 T hou hast beset me behind and before, And laid thy hand upon me.

Tu me cercaste em volta, e puseste sobre mim a tua mão.

6 S uch knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain unto it.

Tal conhecimento é maravilhoso demais para mim; elevado é, não o posso atingir.

7 W hither shall I go from thy Spirit? Or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

Para onde me irei do teu Espírito, ou para onde fugirei da tua presença?

8 I f I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there.

Se subir ao céu, tu aí estás; se fizer no Seol a minha cama, eis que tu ali estás também.

9 I f I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Se tomar as asas da alva, se habitar nas extremidades do mar,

10 E ven there shall thy hand lead me, And thy right hand shall hold me.

ainda ali a tua mão me guiará e a tua destra me susterá.

11 I f I say, Surely the darkness shall overwhelm me, And the light about me shall be night;

Se eu disser: Ocultem-me as trevas; torne-se em noite a luz que me circunda;

12 E ven the darkness hideth not from thee, But the night shineth as the day: The darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

nem ainda as trevas são escuras para ti, mas a noite resplandece como o dia; as trevas e a luz são para ti a mesma coisa.

13 F or thou didst form my inward parts: Thou didst cover me in my mother's womb.

Pois tu formaste os meus rins; entreteceste-me no ventre de minha mãe.

14 I will give thanks unto thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: Wonderful are thy works; And that my soul knoweth right well.

Eu te louvarei, porque de um modo tão admirável e maravilhoso fui formado; maravilhosas são as tuas obras, e a minha alma o sabe muito bem.

15 M y frame was not hidden from thee, When I was made in secret, And curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Os meus ossos não te foram encobertos, quando no oculto fui formado, e esmeradamente tecido nas profundezas da terra.

16 T hine eyes did see mine unformed substance; And in thy book they were all written, Even the days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was none of them.

Os teus olhos viram a minha substância ainda informe, e no teu livro foram escritos os dias, sim, todos os dias que foram ordenados para mim, quando ainda não havia nem um deles.

17 H ow precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

E quão preciosos me são, ó Deus, os teus pensamentos! Quão grande é a soma deles!

18 I f I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: When I awake, I am still with thee.

Se eu os contasse, seriam mais numerosos do que a areia; quando acordo ainda estou contigo.

19 S urely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: Depart from me therefore, ye bloodthirsty men.

Oxalá que matasses o perverso, ó Deus, e que os homens sanguinários se apartassem de mim,

20 F or they speak against thee wickedly, And thine enemies take thy name in vain.

homens que se rebelam contra ti, e contra ti se levantam para o mal.

21 D o not I hate them, O Jehovah, that hate thee? And am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

Não odeio eu, ó Senhor, aqueles que te odeiam? e não me aflijo por causa dos que se levantam contra ti?

22 I hate them with perfect hatred: They are become mine enemies.

Odeio-os com ódio completo; tenho-os por inimigos.

23 S earch me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts;

Sonda-me, ó Deus, e conhece o meu coração; prova-me, e conhece os meus pensamentos;

24 A nd see if there be any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.

vê se há em mim algum caminho perverso, e guia-me pelo caminho eterno.
