1 P raise ye Jehovah. Oh give thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; For his lovingkindness endureth forever.

Louvai ao Senhor. Louvai ao Senhor, porque ele é bom; porque a sua benignidade dura para sempre.

2 W ho can utter the mighty acts of Jehovah, Or show forth all his praise?

Quem pode referir os poderosos feitos do Senhor, ou anunciar todo o seu louvor?

3 B lessed are they that keep justice, And he that doeth righteousness at all times.

Bem-aventurados os que observam o direito, que praticam a justiça em todos os tempos.

4 R emember me, O Jehovah, with the favor that thou bearest unto thy people; Oh visit me with thy salvation,

Lembra-te de mim, Senhor, quando mostrares favor ao teu povo; visita-me com a tua salvação,

5 T hat I may see the prosperity of thy chosen, That I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, That I may glory with thine inheritance.

para que eu veja a prosperidade dos teus escolhidos, para que me alegre com a alegria da tua nação, e me glorie juntamente com a tua herança.

6 W e have sinned with our fathers, We have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.

Nós pecamos, como nossos pais; cometemos a iniqüidade, andamos perversamente.

7 O ur fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; They remembered not the multitude of thy lovingkindnesses, But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea.

Nossos pais não atentaram para as tuas maravilhas no Egito, não se lembraram da multidão das tuas benignidades; antes foram rebeldes contra o Altíssimo junto ao Mar Vermelho.

8 N evertheless he saved them for his name's sake, That he might make his mighty power to be known.

Não obstante, ele os salvou por amor do seu nome, para fazer conhecido o seu poder.

9 H e rebuked the Red Sea also, and it was dried up: So he led them through the depths, as through a wilderness.

Pois repreendeu o Mar Vermelho e este se secou; e os fez caminhar pelos abismos como pelo deserto.

10 A nd he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.

Salvou-os da mão do adversário, livrou-os do poder do inimigo.

11 A nd the waters covered their adversaries; There was not one of them left.

As águas, porém, cobriram os seus adversários; nem um só deles ficou.

12 T hen believed they his words; They sang his praise.

Então creram nas palavras dele e cantaram-lhe louvor.

13 T hey soon forgat his works; They waited not for his counsel,

Cedo, porém, se esqueceram das suas obras; não esperaram pelo seu conselho;

14 B ut lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, And tempted God in the desert.

mas deixaram-se levar pela cobiça no deserto, e tentaram a Deus no ermo.

15 A nd he gave them their request, But sent leanness into their soul.

E ele lhes deu o que pediram, mas fê-los definhar de doença.

16 T hey envied Moses also in the camp, And Aaron the saint of Jehovah.

Tiveram inveja de Moisés no acampamento, e de Arão, o santo do Senhor.

17 T he earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, And covered the company of Abiram.

Abriu-se a terra, e engoliu a Datã, e cobriu a companhia de Abirão;

18 A nd a fire was kindled in their company; The flame burned up the wicked.

ateou-se um fogo no meio da congregação; e chama abrasou os ímpios.

19 T hey made a calf in Horeb, And worshipped a molten image.

Fizeram um bezerro em Horebe, e adoraram uma imagem de fundição.

20 T hus they changed their glory For the likeness of an ox that eateth grass.

Assim trocaram a sua glória pela figura de um boi que come erva.

21 T hey forgat God their Saviour, Who had done great things in Egypt,

Esqueceram-se de Deus seu Salvador, que fizera grandes coisas no Egito,

22 W ondrous works in the land of Ham, And terrible things by the Red Sea.

maravilhas na terra de Cão, coisas tremendas junto ao Mar Vermelho.

23 T herefore he said that he would destroy them, Had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.

Pelo que os teria destruído, como dissera, se Moisés, seu escolhido, não se tivesse interposto diante dele, para desviar a sua indignação, a fim de que não os destruísse.

24 Y ea, they despised the pleasant land, They believed not his word,

Também desprezaram a terra aprazível; não confiaram na sua promessa;

25 B ut murmured in their tents, And hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah.

antes murmuraram em suas tendas e não deram ouvidos ã voz do Senhor.

26 T herefore he sware unto them, That he would overthrow them in the wilderness,

Pelo que levantou a sua mão contra eles, afirmando que os faria cair no deserto;

27 A nd that he would overthrow their seed among the nations, And scatter them in the lands.

que dispersaria também a sua descendência entre as nações, e os espalharia pelas terras.

28 T hey joined themselves also unto Baal-peor, And ate the sacrifices of the dead.

Também se apegaram a Baal-Peor, e comeram sacrifícios oferecidos aos mortos.

29 T hus they provoked him to anger with their doings; And the plague brake in upon them.

Assim o provocaram ã ira com as suas ações; e uma praga rebentou entre eles.

30 T hen stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment; And so the plague was stayed.

Então se levantou Finéias, que executou o juízo; e cessou aquela praga.

31 A nd that was reckoned unto him for righteousness, Unto all generations for evermore.

E isto lhe foi imputado como justiça, de geração em geração, para sempre.

32 T hey angered him also at the waters of Meribah, So that it went ill with Moses for their sakes;

Indignaram-no também junto

33 B ecause they were rebellious against his spirit, And he spake unadvisedly with his lips.

porque amarguraram o seu espírito; e ele falou imprudentemente com seus lábios.

34 T hey did not destroy the peoples, As Jehovah commanded them,

Não destruíram os povos, como o Senhor lhes ordenara;

35 B ut mingled themselves with the nations, And learned their works,

antes se misturaram com as nações, e aprenderam as suas obras.

36 A nd served their idols, Which became a snare unto them.

Serviram aos seus ídolos, que vieram a ser-lhes um laço;

37 Y ea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons,

sacrificaram seus filhos e suas filhas aos demônios;

38 A nd shed innocent blood, Even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan; And the land was polluted with blood.

e derramaram sangue inocente, o sangue de seus filhos e de suas filhas, que eles sacrificaram aos ídolos de Canaã; e a terra foi manchada com sangue.

39 T hus were they defiled with their works, And played the harlot in their doings.

Assim se contaminaram com as suas obras, e se prostituíram pelos seus feitos.

40 T herefore was the wrath of Jehovah kindled against his people, And he abhorred his inheritance.

Pelo que se acendeu a ira do Senhor contra o seu povo, de modo que abominou a sua herança;

41 A nd he gave them into the hand of the nations; And they that hated them ruled over them.

entregou-os nas mãos das nações, e aqueles que os odiavam dominavam sobre eles.

42 T heir enemies also oppressed them, And they were brought into subjection under their hand.

Os seus inimigos os oprimiram, e debaixo das mãos destes foram eles humilhados.

43 M any times did he deliver them; But they were rebellious in their counsel, And were brought low in their iniquity.

Muitas vezes os livrou; mas eles foram rebeldes nos seus desígnios, e foram abatidos pela sua iniqüidade.

44 N evertheless he regarded their distress, When he heard their cry:

Contudo, atentou para a sua aflição, quando ouviu o seu clamor;

45 A nd he remembered for them his covenant, And repented according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

e a favor deles lembrou-se do seu pacto, e aplacou-se, segundo a abundância da sua benignidade.

46 H e made them also to be pitied Of all those that carried them captive.

Por isso fez com que obtivessem compaixão da parte daqueles que os levaram cativos.

47 S ave us, O Jehovah our God, And gather us from among the nations, To give thanks unto thy holy name, And to triumph in thy praise.

Salva-nos, Senhor, nosso Deus, e congrega-nos dentre as nações, para que louvemos o teu santo nome, e nos gloriemos no teu louvor.

48 B lessed be Jehovah, the God of Israel, From everlasting even to everlasting. And let all the people say, Amen. Praise ye Jehovah.

Bendito seja o Senhor, Deus de Israel, de eternidade em eternidade! E diga todo o povo: Amém. Louvai ao Senhor.
