1 B y the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept, When we remembered Zion.

Junto aos rios de Babilônia, ali nos assentamos e nos pusemos a chorar, recordando-nos de Sião.

Nos salgueiros que há no meio dela penduramos as nossas harpas,

3 F or there they that led us captive required of us songs, And they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

pois ali aqueles que nos levaram cativos nos pediam canções; e os que nos atormentavam, que os alegrássemos, dizendo: Cantai-nos um dos cânticos de Sião.

4 H ow shall we sing Jehovah's song In a foreign land?

Mas como entoaremos o cântico do Senhor em terra estrangeira?

5 I f I forget thee, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget her skill.

Se eu me esquecer de ti, ó Jerusalém, esqueça-se a minha destra da sua destreza.

6 L et my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, If I remember thee not; If I prefer not Jerusalem Above my chief joy.

Apegue-se-me a língua ao céu da boca, se não me lembrar de ti, se eu não preferir Jerusalém ã minha maior alegria.

7 R emember, O Jehovah, against the children of Edom The day of Jerusalem; Who said, Rase it, rase it, Even to the foundation thereof.

Lembra-te, Senhor, contra os edomitas, do dia de Jerusalém, porque eles diziam: Arrasai-a, arrasai-a até os seus alicerces.

8 O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed, Happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee As thou hast served us.

Ah! filha de Babilônia, devastadora; feliz aquele que te retribuir consoante nos fizeste a nós;

9 H appy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones Against the rock.

feliz aquele que pegar em teus pequeninos e der com eles nas pedra.
