1 J unto aos rios de Babilônia, ali nos assentamos e nos pusemos a chorar, recordando-nos de Sião.

By the rivers of Babylon, There we sat down, yea, we wept, When we remembered Zion.

2 N os salgueiros que há no meio dela penduramos as nossas harpas,

Upon the willows in the midst thereof We hanged up our harps.

3 p ois ali aqueles que nos levaram cativos nos pediam canções; e os que nos atormentavam, que os alegrássemos, dizendo: Cantai-nos um dos cânticos de Sião.

For there they that led us captive required of us songs, And they that wasted us required of us mirth, saying, Sing us one of the songs of Zion.

4 M as como entoaremos o cântico do Senhor em terra estrangeira?

How shall we sing Jehovah's song In a foreign land?

5 S e eu me esquecer de ti, ó Jerusalém, esqueça-se a minha destra da sua destreza.

If I forget thee, O Jerusalem, Let my right hand forget her skill.

6 A pegue-se-me a língua ao céu da boca, se não me lembrar de ti, se eu não preferir Jerusalém ã minha maior alegria.

Let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth, If I remember thee not; If I prefer not Jerusalem Above my chief joy.

7 L embra-te, Senhor, contra os edomitas, do dia de Jerusalém, porque eles diziam: Arrasai-a, arrasai-a até os seus alicerces.

Remember, O Jehovah, against the children of Edom The day of Jerusalem; Who said, Rase it, rase it, Even to the foundation thereof.

8 A h! filha de Babilônia, devastadora; feliz aquele que te retribuir consoante nos fizeste a nós;

O daughter of Babylon, that art to be destroyed, Happy shall he be, that rewardeth thee As thou hast served us.

9 f eliz aquele que pegar em teus pequeninos e der com eles nas pedra.

Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones Against the rock.
