1 B endize, ó minha alma, ao Senhor! Senhor, Deus meu, tu és magnificentíssimo! Estás vestido de honra e de majestade,

Bless Jehovah, O my soul. O Jehovah my God, thou art very great; Thou art clothed with honor and majesty:

2 t u que te cobres de luz como de um manto, que estendes os céus como uma cortina.

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment; Who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain;

3 É s tu que pões nas águas os vigamentos da tua morada, que fazes das nuvens o teu carro, que andas sobre as asas do vento;

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters; Who maketh the clouds his chariot; Who walketh upon the wings of the wind;

4 q ue fazes dos ventos teus mensageiros, dum fogo abrasador os teus ministros.

Who maketh winds his messengers; Flames of fire his ministers;

5 L ançaste os fundamentos da terra, para que ela não fosse abalada em tempo algum.

Who laid the foundations of the earth, That it should not be moved for ever.

6 T u a cobriste do abismo, como dum vestido; as águas estavam sobre as montanhas.

Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a vesture; The waters stood above the mountains.

7 Â tua repreensão fugiram; ã voz do teu trovão puseram-se em fuga.

At thy rebuke they fled; At the voice of thy thunder they hasted away

8 E levaram-se as montanhas, desceram os vales, até o lugar que lhes determinaste.

(The mountains rose, the valleys sank down) Unto the place which thou hadst founded for them.

9 L imite lhes traçaste, que não haviam de ultrapassar, para que não tornassem a cobrir a terra.

Thou hast set a bound that they may not pass over; That they turn not again to cover the earth.

10 É s tu que nos vales fazes rebentar nascentes, que correm entre as colinas.

He sendeth forth springs into the valleys; They run among the mountains;

11 D ão de beber a todos os animais do campo; ali os asnos monteses matam a sua sede.

They give drink to every beast of the field; The wild asses quench their thirst.

12 J unto delas habitam as aves dos céus; dentre a ramagem fazem ouvir o seu canto.

By them the birds of the heavens have their habitation; They sing among the branches.

13 D a tua alta morada regas os montes; a terra se farta do fruto das tuas obras.

He watereth the mountains from his chambers: The earth is filled with the fruit of thy works.

14 F azes crescer erva para os animais, e a verdura para uso do homem, de sorte que da terra tire o alimento,

He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, And herb for the service of man; That he may bring forth food out of the earth,

15 o vinho que alegra o seu coração, o azeite que faz reluzir o seu rosto, e o pão que lhe fortalece o coração.

And wine that maketh glad the heart of man, And oil to make his face to shine, And bread that strengtheneth man's heart.

16 S aciam-se as árvores do Senhor, os cedros do Líbano que ele plantou,

The trees of Jehovah are filled with moisture, The cedars of Lebanon, which he hath planted;

17 n os quais as aves se aninham, e a cegonha, cuja casa está nos ciprestes.

Where the birds make their nests: As for the stork, the fir-trees are her house.

18 O s altos montes são um refúgio para as cabras montesas, e as rochas para os querogrilos.

The high mountains are for the wild goats; The rocks are a refuge for the conies.

19 D esignou a lua para marcar as estações; o sol sabe a hora do seu ocaso.

He appointed the moon for seasons: The sun knoweth his going down.

20 F azes as trevas, e vem a noite, na qual saem todos os animais da selva.

Thou makest darkness, and it is night, Wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth.

21 O s leões novos os animais bramam pela presa, e de Deus buscam o seu sustento.

The young lions roar after their prey, And seek their food from God.

22 Q uando nasce o sol, logo se recolhem e se deitam nos seus covis.

The sun ariseth, they get them away, And lay them down in their dens.

23 E ntão sai o homem para a sua lida e para o seu trabalho, até a tarde.

Man goeth forth unto his work And to his labor until the evening.

24 Ó Senhor, quão multiformes são as tuas obras! Todas elas as fizeste com sabedoria; a terra está cheia das tuas riquezas.

O Jehovah, how manifold are thy works! In wisdom hast thou made them all: The earth is full of thy riches.

25 E is também o vasto e espaçoso mar, no qual se movem seres inumeráveis, animais pequenos e grandes.

Yonder is the sea, great and wide, Wherein are things creeping innumerable, Both small and great beasts.

26 A li andam os navios, e o leviatã que formaste para nele folgar.

There go the ships; There is leviathan, whom thou hast formed to play therein.

27 T odos esperam de ti que lhes dês o sustento a seu tempo.

These wait all for thee, That thou mayest give them their food in due season.

28 T u lho dás, e eles o recolhem; abres a tua mão, e eles se fartam de bens.

Thou givest unto them, they gather; Thou openest thy hand, they are satisfied with good.

29 E scondes o teu rosto, e ficam perturbados; se lhes tiras a respiração, morrem, e voltam para o seu pó.

Thou hidest thy face, they are troubled; Thou takest away their breath, they die, And return to their dust.

30 E nvias o teu fôlego, e são criados; e assim renovas a face da terra.

Thou sendest forth thy Spirit, they are created; And thou renewest the face of the ground.

31 P ermaneça para sempre a glória do Senhor; regozije-se o Senhor nas suas obras;

Let the glory of Jehovah endure for ever; Let Jehovah rejoice in his works:

32 e le olha para a terra, e ela treme; ele toca nas montanhas, e elas fumegam.

Who looketh on the earth, and it trembleth; He toucheth the mountains, and they smoke.

33 C antarei ao Senhor enquanto eu viver; cantarei louvores ao meu Deus enquanto eu existir.

I will sing unto Jehovah as long as I live: I will sing praise to my God while I have any being.

34 S eja-lhe agradável a minha meditação; eu me regozijarei no Senhor.

Let thy meditation be sweet unto him: I will rejoice in Jehovah.

35 S ejam extirpados da terra os pecadores, e não subsistam mais os ímpios. Bendize, ó minha alma, ao Senhor. Louvai ao Senhor.

Let sinners be consumed out of the earth. And let the wicked be no more. Bless Jehovah, O my soul. Praise ye Jehovah.
