1 Ó Deus, nós ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos, nossos pais nos têm contado os feitos que realizaste em seus dias, nos tempos da antigüidade.

We have heard with our ears, O God, Our fathers have told us, What work thou didst in their days, In the days of old.

2 T u expeliste as nações com a tua mão, mas a eles plantaste; afligiste os povos, mas a eles estendes-te largamente.

Thou didst drive out the nations with thy hand; But them thou didst plant: Thou didst afflict the peoples; But them thou didst spread abroad.

3 P ois não foi pela sua espada que conquistaram a terra, nem foi o seu braço que os salvou, mas a tua destra e o teu braço, e a luz do teu rosto, porquanto te agradaste deles.

For they gat not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them; But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou wast favorable unto them.

4 T u és o meu Rei, ó Deus; ordena livramento para Jacó.

Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverance for Jacob.

5 P or ti derrubamos os nossos adversários; pelo teu nome pisamos os que se levantam contra nós.

Through thee will we push down our adversaries: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us.

6 P ois não confio no meu arco, nem a minha espada me pode salvar.

For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me.

7 M as tu nos salvaste dos nossos adversários, e confundiste os que nos odeiam.

But thou hast saved us from our adversaries, And hast put them to shame that hate us.

8 E m Deus é que nos temos gloriado o dia todo, e sempre louvaremos o teu nome.

In God have we made our boast all the day long, And we will give thanks unto thy name for ever. Selah

9 M as agora nos rejeitaste e nos humilhaste, e não sais com os nossos exércitos.

But now thou hast cast us off, and brought us to dishonor, And goest not forth with our hosts.

10 F izeste-nos voltar as costas ao inimigo e aqueles que nos odeiam nos despojam ã vontade.

Thou makest us to turn back from the adversary; And they that hate us take spoil for themselves.

11 E ntregaste-nos como ovelhas para alimento, e nos espalhaste entre as nações.

Thou hast made us like sheep appointed for food, And hast scattered us among the nations.

12 V endeste por nada o teu povo, e não lucraste com o seu preço.

Thou sellest thy people for nought, And hast not increased thy wealth by their price.

13 P useste-nos por opróbrio aos nossos vizinhos, por escárnio e zombaria

Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to them that are round about us.

14 P useste-nos por provérbio entre as nações, por ludíbrio entre os povos.

Thou makest us a byword among the nations, A shaking of the head among the peoples.

15 A minha ignomínia está sempre diante de mim, e a vergonha do meu rosto me cobre,

All the day long is my dishonor before me, And the shame of my face hath covered me,

For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth, By reason of the enemy and the avenger.

17 T udo isto nos sobreveio; todavia não nos esquecemos de ti, nem nos houvemos falsamente contra o teu pacto.

All this is come upon us; Yet have we not forgotten thee, Neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant.

18 O nosso coração não voltou atrás, nem os nossos passos se desviaram das tuas veredas,

Our heart is not turned back, Neither have our steps declined from thy way,

19 p ara nos teres esmagado onde habitam os chacais, e nos teres coberto de trevas profundas.

That thou hast sore broken us in the place of jackals, And covered us with the shadow of death.

20 S e nos tivéssemos esquecido do nome do nosso Deus, e estendido as nossas mãos para um deus estranho,

If we have forgotten the name of our God, Or spread forth our hands to a strange god;

21 p orventura Deus não haveria de esquadrinhar isso? pois ele conhece os segredos do coração.

Will not God search this out? For he knoweth the secrets of the heart.

22 M as por amor de ti somos entregues ã morte o dia todo; somos considerados como ovelhas para o matadouro.

Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

23 D esperta! por que dormes, Senhor? Acorda! não nos rejeites para sempre.

Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? Arise, cast us not off for ever.

24 P or que escondes o teu rosto, e te esqueces da nossa tribulação e da nossa angústia?

Wherefore hidest thou thy face, And forgettest our affliction and our oppression?

25 P ois a nossa alma está abatida até o pó; o nosso corpo pegado ao chão.

For our soul is bowed down to the dust: Our body cleaveth unto the earth.

26 L evanta-te em nosso auxílio, e resgata-nos por tua benignidade.

Rise up for our help, And redeem us for thy lovingkindness' sake.
