1 A quele que, sendo muitas vezes repreendido, endurece a cerviz, será quebrantado de repente sem que haja cura.

He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

2 Q uando os justos governam, alegra-se o povo; mas quando o ímpio domina, o povo geme.

When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man beareth rule, the people sigh.

3 O que ama a sabedoria alegra a seu pai; mas o companheiro de prostitutas desperdiça a sua riqueza.

Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; But he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance.

4 O rei pela justiça estabelece a terra; mas o que exige presentes a transtorna.

The king by justice establisheth the land; But he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.

5 O homem que lisonjeia a seu próximo arma-lhe uma rede aos passos.

A man that flattereth his neighbor Spreadeth a net for his steps.

6 N a transgressão do homem mau há laço; mas o justo canta e se regozija.

In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; But the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

7 O justo toma conhecimento da causa dos pobres; mas o ímpio não tem entendimento para a conhecer.

The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; The wicked hath not understanding to know it.

8 O s escarnecedores abrasam a cidade; mas os sábios desviam a ira.

Scoffers set a city in a flame; But wise men turn away wrath.

9 O sábio que pleiteia com o insensato, quer este se agaste quer se ria, não terá descanso.

If a wise man hath a controversy with a foolish man, Whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.

10 O s homens sanguinários odeiam o íntegro; mas os retos procuram o seu bem.

The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect; And as for the upright, they seek his life.

11 O tolo derrama toda a sua ira; mas o sábio a reprime e aplaca.

A fool uttereth all his anger; But a wise man keepeth it back and stilleth it.

12 O governador que dá atenção

If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, All his servants are wicked.

13 O pobre e o opressor se encontram; o Senhor alumia os olhos de ambos.

The poor man and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.

14 S e o rei julgar os pobres com eqüidade, o seu trono será estabelecido para sempre.

The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, His throne shall be established for ever.

15 A vara e a repreensão dão sabedoria; mas a criança entregue a si mesma envergonha a sua mãe.

The rod and reproof give wisdom; But a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.

16 Q uando os ímpios se multiplicam, multiplicam-se as transgressões; mas os justos verão a queda deles.

When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth; But the righteous shall look upon their fall.

17 C orrige a teu filho, e ele te dará descanso; sim, deleitará o teu coração.

Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest; Yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.

18 O nde não há profecia, o povo se corrompe; mas o que guarda a lei esse é bem-aventurado.

Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

19 O servo não se emendará com palavras; porque, ainda que entenda, não atenderá.

A servant will not be corrected by words; For though he understand, he will not give heed.

20 V ês um homem precipitado nas suas palavras? Maior esperança há para o tolo do que para ele.

Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

21 A quele que cria delicadamente o seu servo desde a meninice, no fim tê-lo-á por herdeiro.

He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child Shall have him become a son at the last.

22 O homem iracundo levanta contendas, e o furioso multiplica as transgressões.

An angry man stirreth up strife, And a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.

23 A soberba do homem o abaterá; mas o humilde de espírito obterá honra.

A man's pride shall bring him low; But he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honor.

24 O que é sócio do ladrão odeia a sua própria alma; sendo ajuramentado, nada denuncia.

Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul; He heareth the adjuration and uttereth nothing.

25 O receio do homem lhe arma laços; mas o que confia no Senhor está seguro.

The fear of man bringeth a snare; But whoso putteth his trust in Jehovah shall be safe.

26 M uitos buscam o favor do príncipe; mas é do Senhor que o homem recebe a justiça.

Many seek the ruler's favor; But a man's judgment cometh from Jehovah.

27 O ímpio é abominação para os justos; e o que é reto no seu caminho é abominação para o ímpio.

An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; And he that is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.
