1 L 'uomo che irrigidisce il collo quando è ripreso, sarà improvvisamente spezzato senza alcun rimedio.

He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.

2 Q uando i giusti sono in autorità, il popolo si rallegra, ma quando domina l'empio, il popolo geme.

When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man beareth rule, the people sigh.

3 L 'uomo che ama la sapienza rallegra suo padre; ma chi frequenta le prostitute dissipa la sua ricchezza.

Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; But he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance.

4 I l re rende stabile il paese con la giustizia, ma chi riceve regali lo manda in rovina.

The king by justice establisheth the land; But he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.

5 L 'uomo che adula il suo prossimo tende una rete sui suoi passi.

A man that flattereth his neighbor Spreadeth a net for his steps.

6 N el peccato di un uomo malvagio c'è un laccio, ma il giusto canta e si rallegra.

In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; But the righteous doth sing and rejoice.

7 I l giusto si interessa della causa dei miseri, ma l'empio non comprende tale interesse.

The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; The wicked hath not understanding to know it.

8 G li schernitori fomentano sedizioni in città, ma gli uomini saggi placano.

Scoffers set a city in a flame; But wise men turn away wrath.

9 S e un uomo saggio viene a contesa con uno stolto, e lo stolto si adira e ride, non c'è pace.

If a wise man hath a controversy with a foolish man, Whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.

10 G li uomini di sangue odiano chi è integro, ma gli uomini retti cercano di proteggere la sua vita.

The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect; And as for the upright, they seek his life.

11 L o stolto dà sfogo a tutta la sua ira ma il saggio la trattiene e la calma.

A fool uttereth all his anger; But a wise man keepeth it back and stilleth it.

12 S e un sovrano dà retta a parole menzognere, tutti i suoi ministri diventano empi.

If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, All his servants are wicked.

13 I l povero e l'oppressore hanno questo in comune: l'Eterno illumina gli occhi di entrambi.

The poor man and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.

14 I l re che fa giustizia ai miseri in verità avrà il trono stabilito per sempre.

The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, His throne shall be established for ever.

15 L a verga e la riprensione danno sapienza; ma il fanciullo lasciato a se stesso fa vergogna a sua madre.

The rod and reproof give wisdom; But a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.

16 Q uando gli empi aumentano, aumentano pure le trasgressioni, ma i giusti vedranno la loro rovina.

When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth; But the righteous shall look upon their fall.

17 C orreggi tuo figlio, egli ti darà conforto e procurerà delizie all'anima tua.

Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest; Yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.

18 Q uando non c'è visione profetica il popolo diventa sfrenato, ma beato chi osserva la legge.

Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

19 U n servo non si corregge solo a parole; anche se comprende non ubbidisce.

A servant will not be corrected by words; For though he understand, he will not give heed.

20 H ai visto un uomo precipitoso nel suo parlare? C'è piú speranza per uno stolto che per lui,

Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

21 S e uno alleva delicatamente da fanciullo il suo servo, alla fine egli vorrà essere suo successore.

He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child Shall have him become a son at the last.

22 L 'uomo iracondo fomenta contese e l'uomo collerico commette molti peccati.

An angry man stirreth up strife, And a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.

23 L 'orgoglio dell'uomo lo porta in basso, ma chi è umile di spirito otterrà gloria.

A man's pride shall bring him low; But he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honor.

24 C hi si fa socio di un ladro odia la sua vita. Egli ode il giuramento ma non denuncia nulla.

Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul; He heareth the adjuration and uttereth nothing.

25 L a paura dell'uomo costituisce un laccio, ma chi confida nell'Eterno è al sicuro.

The fear of man bringeth a snare; But whoso putteth his trust in Jehovah shall be safe.

26 M olti cercano il favore del principe, ma la giustizia per ogni uomo viene dall'Eterno.

Many seek the ruler's favor; But a man's judgment cometh from Jehovah.

27 L 'uomo iniquo è un abominio per i giusti, e chi cammina rettamente è un abominio per gli empi.

An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; And he that is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.
