1 P roverbi di Salomone. Un figlio saggio rallegrerà il padre, ma un figlio stolto è causa di dolore per sua madre.

The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.

2 I tesori d'iniquità non giovano, ma la giustizia libera dalla morte.

Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; But righteousness delivereth from death.

3 L 'Eterno non permetterà che il giusto soffra la fame, ma respinge il desiderio degli empi.

Jehovah will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish; But he thrusteth away the desire of the wicked.

4 C hi lavora con mano pigra impoverisce, ma la mano degli uomini solerti fa arricchire.

He becometh poor that worketh with a slack hand; But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

5 c hi raccoglie nell'estate è un figlio prudente, ma chi dorme al tempo della mietitura è un figlio che fa vergogna.

He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; But he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

6 C i sono benedizioni sul capo del giusto, ma la violenza copre la bocca degli empi.

Blessings are upon the head of the righteous; But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

7 L a memoria del giusto è in benedizione, ma il nome degli empi marcirà.

The memory of the righteous is blessed; But the name of the wicked shall rot.

8 I l saggio di cuore accetta i comandamenti, ma il chiacchierone stolto cadrà.

The wise in heart will receive commandments; But a prating fool shall fall.

9 C hi cammina nell'integrità cammina sicuro, ma chi segue vie tortuose sarà scoperta.

He that walketh uprightly walketh surely; But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

10 C hi ammicca con l'occhio causa dolore, ma il chiacchierone stolto cadrà.

He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow; But a prating fool shall fall.

11 L a bocca del giusto è una fonte di vita, ma la violenza copre la bocca degli empi.

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life; But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.

12 L 'odio provoca liti, ma l'amore copre tutte le colpe.

Hatred stirreth up strifes; But love covereth all transgressions.

13 L a sapienza si trova sulle labbra di chi ha intendimento, ma il bastone è per il dorso a di chi è privo di intendimento.

In the lips of him that hath discernment wisdom is found; But a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

14 I saggi accumulano conoscenza, ma la bocca dello stolto è una rovina imminente.

Wise men lay up knowledge; But the mouth of the foolish is a present destruction.

15 L 'opulenza del ricco è la sua città forte; la rovina dei poveri è la loro povertà.

The rich man's wealth is his strong city: The destruction of the poor is their poverty.

16 I l lavoro del giusto serve per la vita, il guadagno dell'empio per il peccato.

The labor of the righteous tendeth to life; The increase of the wicked, to sin.

17 C hi custodisce l'ammaestramento è sulla via della vita; ma chi rifiuta la riprensione si smarrisce.

He is in the way of life that heedeth correction; But he that forsaketh reproof erreth.

18 C hi maschera l'odio ha labbra bugiarde, e chi sparge calunnie è uno stolto.

He that hideth hatred is of lying lips; And he that uttereth a slander is a fool.

19 N elle molte parole non manca la colpa, ma chi frena le sue labbra è saggio.

In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; But he that refraineth his lips doeth wisely.

20 L a lingua del giusto è argento scelto, ma il cuore degli empi vale poco.

The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver: The heart of the wicked is little worth.

21 L e labbra del giusto nutrono molti, ma gli stolti muoiono per mancanza di senno.

The lips of the righteous feed many; But the foolish die for lack of understanding.

22 L a benedizione dell'Eterno arricchisce ed egli non vi aggiunge alcun dolore.

The blessing of Jehovah, it maketh rich; And he addeth no sorrow therewith.

23 C ommettere una scelleratezza per lo stolto è come un divertimento; cosí è la sapienza per l'uomo che ha intendimento.

It is as sport to a fool to do wickedness; And so is wisdom to a man of understanding.

24 A ll'empio succede ciò che egli teme, ma ai giusti è concesso ciò che desiderano.

The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him; And the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

25 Q uando passa la tempesta, l'empio non è piú, ma il giusto ha un fondamento eterno.

When the whirlwind passeth, the wicked is no more; But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

26 C ome l'aceto ai denti e il fumo agli occhi, cosí è il pigro per quelli che lo mandano.

As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to them that send him.

27 I l timore dell'Eterno prolunga i giorni, ma gli anni degli empi saranno accorciati.

The fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; But the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

28 L a speranza dei giusti è gioia, ma l'attesa degli empi perirà.

The hope of the righteous shall be gladness; But the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

29 L a via dell'Eterno è una fortezza per l'uomo integro, ma è rovina per gli operatori d'iniquità.

The way of Jehovah is a stronghold to the upright; But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

30 I l giusto non sarà mai smosso, ma gli empi non abiteranno la terra.

The righteous shall never be removed; But the wicked shall not dwell in the land.

31 L a bocca del giusto produce sapienza, ma la lingua perversa sarà troncata.

The mouth of the righteous bringeth forth wisdom; But the perverse tongue shall be cut off.

32 L e labbra del giusto conoscono ciò che è accettevole, ma la bocca degli empi conosce solo cose perverse.

The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable; But the mouth of the wicked speaketh perverseness.
