1 Q uindi alzai gli occhi e guardai, ed ecco un uomo che aveva in mano una corda per misurare.

And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand.

2 G li domandai: «Dove vai?». Egli mi rispose: «Vado a misurare Gerusalemme, per vedere qual è la sua larghezza e qual è la sua lunghezza».

Then said I, Whither goest thou? And he said unto me, To measure Jerusalem, to see what is the breadth thereof, and what is the length thereof.

3 E d ecco, l'angelo che parlava con me si fece avanti, e un altro angelo gli uscí incontro,

And, behold, the angel that talked with me went forth, and another angel went out to meet him,

4 e gli disse: «Corri, parla a quel giovane e digli: Gerusalemme, sarà abitata come una città senza mura, per la moltitudine di uomini e di animali che ci saranno in essa.

and said unto him, Run, speak to this young man, saying, Jerusalem shall be inhabited as villages without walls, by reason of the multitude of men and cattle therein.

5 P oiché io», dice l'Eterno, «sarò per lei un muro di fuoco tutt'intorno e sarò la sua gloria in mezzo a lei».

For I, saith Jehovah, will be unto her a wall of fire round about, and I will be the glory in the midst of her.

6 O hi, ohi! «Fuggite dal paese del nord», dice l'Eterno, «perché vi ho disperso come i quattro venti del cielo», dice l'Eterno.

Ho, ho, flee from the land of the north, saith Jehovah; for I have spread you abroad as the four winds of the heavens, saith Jehovah.

7 O hi, Sion, mettiti in salvo, tu che abiti con la figlia di Babilonia!

Ho Zion, escape, thou that dwellest with the daughter of Babylon.

8 P oiché cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: «La sua gloria mi ha mandato alle nazioni che vi hanno depredato, perché chi tocca voi tocca la pupilla del suo occhio.

For thus saith Jehovah of hosts: After glory hath he sent me unto the nations which plundered you; for he that toucheth you toucheth the apple of his eye.

9 E cco, io agiterò la mia mano contro di loro, ed esse diventeranno preda di quelli che erano loro asserviti; allora riconoscerete che l'Eterno degli eserciti mi ha mandato.

For, behold, I will shake my hand over them, and they shall be a spoil to those that served them; and ye shall know that Jehovah of hosts hath sent me.

10 M anda grida di gioia, rallegrati, o figlia di Sion, perché ecco io verrò ad abitare in mezzo a te», dice l'Eterno.

Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion; for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith Jehovah.

11 « In quel giorno molte nazioni si uniranno all'Eterno e diventeranno mio popolo, e io abiterò in mezzo a te; allora riconoscerai che l'Eterno degli eserciti mi ha mandato a te.

And many nations shall join themselves to Jehovah in that day, and shall be my people; and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that Jehovah of hosts has sent me unto thee.

12 E l'Eterno prenderà possesso di Giuda come sua eredità nella terra santa e sceglierà ancora Gerusalemme.

And Jehovah shall inherit Judah as his portion in the holy land, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

13 O gni carne stia in silenzio davanti all'Eterno, perché egli si è destato dalla sua santa dimora».

Be silent, all flesh, before Jehovah; for he is waked up out of his holy habitation.
