1 I l dodicesimo mese, che è il mese di Adar, il tredicesimo giorno del mese, quando l'ordine del re e il suo decreto dovevano essere eseguiti, il giorno in cui i nemici dei Giudei speravano di avere il dominio su di loro, la situazione fu interamente rovesciata e i Giudei ebbero il dominio sui loro nemici.

Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king's commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, on the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have rule over them, (whereas it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them,)

2 I Giudei si radunarono nelle loro città, in tutte le province del re Assuero, per stendere la mano su quelli che cercavano di fare loro del male; e nessuno potè resistere loro, perché il terrore dei Giudei era caduto su tutti i popoli.

the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt: and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them was fallen upon all the peoples.

3 T utti i capi delle province, i satrapi, i governatori e quelli che curavano gli affari del re diedero man forte ai Giudei, perché il terrore di Mardocheo era caduto su di loro.

And all the princes of the provinces, and the satraps, and the governors, and they that did the king's business, helped the Jews; because the fear of Mordecai was fallen upon them.

4 M ardocheo infatti era grande nel palazzo del re, e la sua fama si spargeva per tutte le province, perché quest'uomo, Mardocheo, diventava sempre piú grande.

For Mordecai was great in the king's house, and his fame went forth throughout all the provinces; for the man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.

5 I Giudei dunque colpirono tutti i loro nemici, passandoli a fil di spada, e compiendo un grande massacro e distruzione; fecero dei loro nemici quello che vollero.

And the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword, and with slaughter and destruction, and did what they would unto them that hated them.

6 N ella cittadella di Susa i Giudei uccisero e sterminarono cinquecento uomini;

And in Shushan the palace the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.

7 m isero a morte anche Parshandatha Dalfon, Aspatha,

And Parshandatha, and Dalphon, and Aspatha,

8 P oratha, Adalia, Aridatha

and Poratha, and Adalia, and Aridatha,

9 P armashta, Arisai, Aridai e Vajezatha,

and Parmashta, and Arisai, and Aridai, and Vaizatha,

10 i dieci figli di Haman, figlio di Hammedatha, il nemico dei Giudei, ma non si diedero al saccheggio.

the ten sons of Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Jew's enemy, slew they; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.

11 Q uel giorno stesso il numero di quelli che erano stati uccisi nella cittadella di Susa fu portato a conoscenza del re.

On that day the number of those that were slain in Shushan the palace was brought before the king.

12 I l re allora disse alla regina Ester: «Nella cittadella di Susa i Giudei hanno ucciso e sterminato cinquecento uomini e dieci figli di Haman; che avranno mai fatto nelle altre province del re? Ora qual'è la tua richiesta? Ti sarà concessa. Che cos'altro domandi? Sarà fatto».

And the king said unto Esther the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what then have they done in the rest of the king's provinces! Now what is thy petition? and it shall be granted thee: or what is thy request further? and it shall be done.

13 A llora Ester disse: «Se cosí piace al re, sia permesso ai Giudei che sono a Susa di fare anche domani ciò che era stato decretato per oggi; e siano appesi alla forca i dieci figli di Haman».

Then said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews that are in Shushan to do to-morrow also according unto this day's decree, and let Haman's ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.

14 I l re ordinò che fosse fatto esattamente cosí. Il decreto fu promulgato a Susa, e i dieci figli di Haman furono appesi alla forca.

And the king commanded it so to be done: and a decree was given out in Shushan; and they hanged Haman's ten sons.

15 I Giudei che erano a Susa si radunarono anche il quattordicesimo giorno del mese di Adar e uccisero a Susa trecento uomini; ma non si diedero al saccheggio.

And the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together on the fourteenth day also of the month Adar, and slew three hundred men in Shushan; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.

16 A nche gli altri Giudei che erano nelle province del re si radunarono, per difendere la loro vita e stare al sicuro dagli attacchi dei loro nemici; uccisero settantacinquemila di quelli che li odiavano, ma non si diedero al saccheggio.

And the other Jews that were in the king's provinces gathered themselves together, and stood for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and slew of them that hated them seventy and five thousand; but on the spoil they laid not their hand.

17 Q uesto avvenne il tredicesimo giorno del mese di Adar: il quattordicesimo giorno si riposarono e ne fecero un giorno di banchetto e di gioia.

This was done on the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

18 I Giudei che erano a Susa si radunarono invece il tredicesimo e il quattordicesimo giorno; il quindicesimo giorno del mese si riposarono, ne fecero un giorno di banchetto e di gioia.

But the Jews that were in Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof, and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

19 P er questo i Giudei della campagna che abitano in città senza mura fanno del quattordicesimo giorno del mese di Adar un giorno di gioia, di banchetti e di festa, e in cui si mandano regali gli uni agli altri.

Therefore do the Jews of the villages, that dwell in the unwalled towns, make the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and feasting, and a good day, and of sending portions one to another.

20 M ardocheo mise per scritto queste cose e mandò lettere a tutti i Giudei che erano in tutte le province del re Assuero, vicini e lontani,

And Mordecai wrote these things, and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, both nigh and far,

21 p er comandare loro di celebrare ogni anno il quattordicesimo giorno e il quindicesimo giorno del mese di Adar,

to enjoin them that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar, and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,

22 c ome i giorni nei quali i Giudei ebbero riposo dagli attacchi dei loro nemici, e il mese in cui per loro il dolore fu mutato in gioia e il lutto in festa, e perché facessero di essi giorni di banchetto c di gioia, nei quali si mandassero regali gli uni agli altri e facessero doni ai poveri.

as the days wherein the Jews had rest from their enemies, and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to gladness, and from mourning into a good day; that they should make them days of feasting and gladness, and of sending portions one to another, and gifts to the poor.

23 I Giudei si impegnarono a osservare ciò che avevano già cominciato a fare, come Mardocheo aveva loro scritto.

And the Jews undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written unto them;

24 H aman infatti, figlio di Hammedatha, l'Agaghita, il nemico di tutti i Giudei, aveva cospirato contro i Giudei per distruggerli e aveva gettato il Pur (cioè aveva tirato la sorte), per sterminarli e distruggerli.

because Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of all the Jews, had plotted against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur, that is the lot, to consume them, and to destroy them;

25 Q uando però Ester si presentò davanti al re, questi ordinò per scritto che il malvagio complotto che Haman aveva ordito contro i Giudei fosse fatto ricadere sul suo capo e che lui e i suoi figli fossero appesi alla forca.

but when the matter came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he had devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

26 P erciò quei giorni furono chiamati Purim, dalla parola Pur. In conformità quindi a tutto ciò che era scritto in quella lettera, a tutto ciò che avevano visto a questo proposito e che era loro avvenuto,

Wherefore they called these days Purim, after the name of Pur. Therefore because of all the words of this letter, and of that which they had seen concerning this matter, and that which had come unto them,

27 i Giudei stabilirono di prendere l'impegno senza mai venir meno per se stessi, per i loro discendenti e per tutti quelli che si sarebbero uniti a loro, di celebrare ogni anno quei due giorni secondo le indicazioni scritte e secondo il tempo stabilito.

the Jews ordained, and took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so that it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to the writing thereof, and according to the appointed time thereof, every year;

28 Q uei giorni dovevano essere ricordati e celebrati di generazione in generazione, in ogni famiglia, in ogni provincia, in ogni città, non si doveva mai venir meno fra i Giudei di celebrare questi giorni di Purim, e il loro ricordo non doveva scomparire fra i loro discendenti.

and that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city; and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews, nor the remembrance of them perish from their seed.

29 L a regina Ester, figlia di Abihail, e il Giudeo Mardocheo scrissero con ogni autorità, per confermare questa loro seconda lettera relativa ai Purim.

Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority to confirm this second letter of Purim.

30 M ardocheo, mandò lettere a tutti i Giudei nelle centoventisette province del regno di Assuero, con parole di pace e di verità,

And he sent letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty and seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,

31 p er stabilire quei giorni di Purim nel tempo fissato, come avevano loro stabilito il Giudeo Mardocheo e la regina Ester, e come essi stessi avevano stabilito per sé e per i loro discendenti in occasione del loro digiuno e del loro grido.

to confirm these days of Purim in their appointed times, according as Mordecai the Jew and Esther the queen had enjoined them, and as they had ordained for themselves and for their seed, in the matter of the fastings and their cry.

32 C osí il decreto di Ester fissò l'istituzione dei Purim e fu scritto in un libro.

And the commandment of Esther confirmed these matters of Purim; and it was written in the book.
