1 L a risposta dolce calma la collera, ma la parola pungente eccita l'ira.

A soft answer turneth away wrath; But a grievous word stirreth up anger.

2 L a lingua dei saggi usa la conoscenza rettamente, ma la bocca degli stolti riversa follia.

The tongue of the wise uttereth knowledge aright; But the mouth of fools poureth out folly.

3 G li occhi dell'Eterno sono in ogni luogo, per guardare i cattivi e i buoni.

The eyes of Jehovah are in every place, Keeping watch upon the evil and the good.

4 U na lingua sana è un albero di vita, ma la lingua perversa strazia lo spirito.

A gentle tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a breaking of the spirit.

5 L o stolto disprezza la correzione di suo padre, ma chi apprezza la riprensione agisce con accortezza.

A fool despiseth his father's correction; But he that regardeth reproof getteth prudence.

6 N ella casa del giusto c'è grande abbondanza, ma nella rendita dell'empio ci sono guai.

In the house of the righteous is much treasure; But in the revenues of the wicked is trouble.

7 L e labbra dei saggi spargono conoscenza, ma non cosí il cuore degli stolti.

The lips of the wise disperse knowledge; But the heart of the foolish doeth not so.

8 I l sacrificio degli empi è un abominio all'Eterno, ma la preghiera degli uomini retti gli è gradita.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; But the prayer of the upright is his delight.

9 L a via dell'empio è un abominio all'Eterno, ma egli ama chi segue la giustizia.

The way of the wicked is an abomination to Jehovah; But he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

10 U na dura correzione attende chi lascia la diritta via; chi odia la riprensione morirà.

There is grievous correction for him that forsaketh the way; And he that hateth reproof shall die.

11 L o Sceol e Abaddon sono davanti all'Eterno; tanto piú lo sono i cuori dei figli degli uomini!

Sheol and Abaddon are before Jehovah: How much more then the hearts of the children of men!

12 L o schernitore non ama chi lo riprende; egli non va dai saggi.

A scoffer loveth not to be reproved; He will not go unto the wise.

13 U n cuore gioioso rende il viso raggiante, ma per l'afflizione del cuore lo spirito è abbattuto,

A glad heart maketh a cheerful countenance; But by sorrow of heart the spirit is broken.

14 I l cuore di chi ha intendimento cerca la conoscenza, ma la bocca degli stolti si pasce di follia.

The heart of him that hath understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.

15 T utti i giorni dell'indigente sono cattivi, ma per un cuore contento è sempre festa.

All the days of the afflicted are evil; But he that is of a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.

16 M eglio poco con il timore dell'Eterno, che un gran tesoro con preoccupazioni.

Better is little, with the fear of Jehovah, Than great treasure and trouble therewith.

17 M eglio un piatto di verdura dove c'è amore, che un bue ingrassato dove c'è odio.

Better is a dinner of herbs, where love is, Than a stalled ox and hatred therewith.

18 L 'uomo irascibile fomenta contese, ma chi è lento all'ira acqueta le liti.

A wrathful man stirreth up contention; But he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.

19 L a via del pigro è come una siepe di spine, ma il sentiero degli uomini retti è reso piano.

The way of the sluggard is as a hedge of thorns; But the path of the upright is made a highway.

20 I l figlio saggio allieta il padre, ma l'uomo stolto disprezza sua madre.

A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother.

21 L a follia è gioia per chi è privo di senno, ma l'uomo che ha intendimento cammina diritto.

Folly is joy to him that is void of wisdom; But a man of understanding maketh straight his going.

22 I disegni falliscono dove non c'è consiglio, ma riescono dove c'è una moltitudine di consiglieri.

Where there is no counsel, purposes are disappointed; But in the multitude of counsellors they are established.

23 U no prova gioia quando può dare una risposta, e quanto è buona una parola detta al tempo giusto!

A man hath joy in the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good is it!

24 P er l'uomo prudente la via della vita conduce in alto, per fargli evitare lo Sceol in basso.

To the wise the way of life goeth upward, That he may depart from Sheol beneath.

25 L 'Eterno distruggerà la casa dei superbi, ma renderà stabili i confini della vedova.

Jehovah will root up the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow.

26 I pensieri malvagi sono un abominio all'Eterno, ma le parole affabili sono pure.

Evil devices are an abomination to Jehovah; But pleasant words are pure.

27 C hi è avido di guadagno mette nei guai la sua stessa casa, ma chi odia i regali vivrà.

He that is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he that hateth bribes shall live.

28 I l cuore del giusto medita come deve rispondere, ma la bocca degli empi vomita cose malvagie.

The heart of the righteous studieth to answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.

29 L 'Eterno è lontano dagli empi, ma ascolta la preghiera dei giusti.

Jehovah is far from the wicked; But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.

30 L a luminosità degli occhi rallegra il cuore, una buona notizia irrobustisce le ossa.

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart; And good tidings make the bones fat.

31 L 'orecchio che ascolta la riprensione di vita, dimorerà fra i saggi.

The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall abide among the wise.

32 C hi rifiuta la correzione disprezza la sua stessa anima, ma chi dà ascolto alla riprensione acquista senno.

He that refuseth correction despiseth his own soul; But he that hearkeneth to reproof getteth understanding.

33 I l timore dell'Eterno è un ammaestramento di sapienza, e prima della gloria c'è l'umiltà.

The fear of Jehovah is the instruction of wisdom; And before honor goeth humility.
