1 E u sou o homem que viu a aflição causada pela vara do seu furor.

I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

2 E le me guiou e me fez andar em trevas e não na luz.

He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.

3 D everas fez virar e revirar a sua mão contra mim o dia todo.

Surely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day.

4 F ez envelhecer a minha carne e a minha pele; quebrou-me os ossos.

My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

5 L evantou trincheiras contra mim, e me cercou de fel e trabalho.

He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

6 F ez-me habitar em lugares tenebrosos, como os que estavam mortos há muito.

He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

7 C ercou-me de uma sebe de modo que não posso sair; agravou os meus grilhões.

He hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.

8 A inda quando grito e clamo por socorro, ele exclui a minha oração.

Yea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.

9 F echou os meus caminhos com pedras lavradas, fez tortuosas as minhas veredas.

He hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked.

10 F ez-se-me como urso de emboscada, um leão em esconderijos.

He is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

11 D esviou os meus caminhos, e fez-me em pedaços; deixou-me desolado.

He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.

12 A rmou o seu arco, e me pôs como alvo ã flecha.

He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

13 F ez entrar nos meus rins as flechas da sua aljava.

He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.

14 F ui feito um objeto de escárnio para todo o meu povo, e a sua canção o dia todo.

I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day.

15 E ncheu-me de amarguras, fartou-me de absinto.

He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.

16 Q uebrou com pedrinhas de areia os meus dentes, cobriu-me de cinza.

He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.

17 A longaste da paz a minha alma; esqueci-me do que seja a felicidade.

And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity.

18 D igo, pois: Já pereceu a minha força, como também a minha esperança no Senhor.

And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.

19 L embra-te da minha aflição e amargura, do absinto e do fel.

Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20 M inha alma ainda os conserva na memória, e se abate dentro de mim.

My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

21 T orno a trazer isso ã mente, portanto tenho esperança.

This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.

22 A benignidade do Senhor jamais acaba, as suas misericórdias não têm fim;

It is of Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 r enovam-se cada manhã. Grande é a tua fidelidade.

They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.

24 A minha porção é o Senhor, diz a minha alma; portanto esperarei nele.

Jehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 B om é o Senhor para os que esperam por ele, para a alma que o busca.

Jehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 B om é ter esperança, e aguardar em silêncio a salvação do Senhor.

It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah.

27 B om é para o homem suportar o jugo na sua mocidade.

It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28 Q ue se assente ele, sozinho, e fique calado, porquanto Deus o pôs sobre ele.

Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him.

29 P onha a sua boca no pó; talvez ainda haja esperança.

Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.

30 D ê a sua face ao que o fere; farte-se de afronta.

Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.

31 P ois o Senhor não rejeitará para sempre.

For the Lord will not cast off for ever.

32 E mbora entristeça a alguém, contudo terá compaixão segundo a grandeza da sua misericordia.

For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

33 P orque não aflige nem entristece de bom grado os filhos dos homens.

For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

34 P isar debaixo dos pés a todos os presos da terra,

To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

35 p erverter o direito do homem perante a face do Altíssimo,

To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

36 s ubverter o homem no seu pleito, não são do agrado do senhor.

To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

37 Q uem é aquele que manda, e assim acontece, sem que o Senhor o tenha ordenado?

Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

38 N ão sai da boca do Altíssimo tanto o mal como o bem?

Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?

39 P or que se queixaria o homem vivente, o varão por causa do castigo dos seus pecados?

Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

40 E squadrinhemos os nossos caminhos, provemo-los, e voltemos para o Senhor.

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

41 L evantemos os nossos corações com as mãos para Deus no céu dizendo;

Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

42 N ós transgredimos, e fomos rebeldes, e não perdoaste,

We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.

43 C obriste-te de ira, e nos perseguiste; mataste, não te apiedaste.

Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

44 C obriste-te de nuvens, para que não passe a nossa oração.

Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.

45 C omo escória e refugo nos puseste no meio dos povos.

Thou hast made us an off-scouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.

46 T odos os nossos inimigos abriram contra nós a sua boca.

All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

47 T emor e cova vieram sobre nós, assolação e destruição.

Fear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction.

48 T orrentes de águas correm dos meus olhos, por causa da destruição da filha do meu povo.

Mine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49 O s meus olhos derramam lágrimas, e não cessam, sem haver intermissão,

Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

50 a té que o Senhor atente e veja desde o céu.

Till Jehovah look down, and behold from heaven.

51 O s meus olhos me afligem, por causa de todas as filhas da minha cidade.

Mine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.

52 C omo ave me caçaram os que, sem causa, são meus inimigos.

They have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause.

53 A tiraram-me vivo na masmorra, e lançaram pedras sobre mim.

They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me.

54 Á guas correram sobre a minha cabeça; eu disse: Estou cortado.

Waters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off.

55 I nvoquei o teu nome, Senhor, desde a profundeza da masmorra.

I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon.

56 O uviste a minha voz; não escondas o teu ouvido ao meu suspiro, ao meu clamor.

Thou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

57 T u te aproximaste no dia em que te invoquei; disseste: Não temas.

Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.

58 P leiteaste, Senhor, a minha causa; remiste a minha vida.

O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

59 V iste, Senhor, a injustiça que sofri; julga tu a minha causa.

O Jehovah, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause.

60 V iste toda a sua vingança, todos os seus desígnios contra mim.

Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me.

61 O uviste as suas afrontas, Senhor, todos os seus desígnios contra mim,

Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their devices against me,

62 o s lábios e os pensamentos dos que se levantam contra mim o dia todo.

The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

63 O bserva-os ao assentarem-se e ao levantarem-se; eu sou a sua canção.

Behold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song.

64 T u lhes darás a recompensa, Senhor, conforme a obra das suas mãos.

Thou wilt render unto them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands.

65 T u lhes darás dureza de coração, maldição tua sobre eles.

Thou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them.

66 N a tua ira os perseguirás, e os destruirás de debaixo dos teus céus, ó Senhor.

Thou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah.
