1 E u sunt bărbatul care a văzut suferinţa sub nuiaua furiei Lui.

I am the man that hath seen affliction by the rod of his wrath.

2 E l m-a condus şi m-a făcut să merg prin întuneric, nu prin lumină!

He hath led me and caused me to walk in darkness, and not in light.

3 D a, El Îşi întoarce mâna împotriva mea toată ziua!

Surely against me he turneth his hand again and again all the day.

4 E l mi-a îmbătrânit trupul şi pielea şi mi-a zdrobit oasele.

My flesh and my skin hath he made old; he hath broken my bones.

5 M -a asediat şi m-a înconjurat cu otravă şi cu nenorocire.

He hath builded against me, and compassed me with gall and travail.

6 M -a făcut să locuiesc în întunecimi asemenea celor morţi demult.

He hath made me to dwell in dark places, as those that have been long dead.

7 M -a înconjurat cu un zid, ca să nu pot scăpa, şi m-a pus în lanţuri grele.

He hath walled me about, that I cannot go forth; he hath made my chain heavy.

8 C hiar şi atunci când strig şi plâng după ajutor, El îmi respinge rugăciunea.

Yea, when I cry, and call for help, he shutteth out my prayer.

9 D rumurile mi le-a blocat cu pietre cioplite şi mi-a întortocheat cărările.

He hath walled up my ways with hewn stone; he hath made my paths crooked.

10 A fost pentru mine ca un urs care stă la pândă şi ca un leu aflat într-un loc ascuns.

He is unto me as a bear lying in wait, as a lion in secret places.

11 M -a abătut de la căile mele, m-a sfâşiat şi m-a lăsat pustiit.

He hath turned aside my ways, and pulled me in pieces; he hath made me desolate.

12 Ş i-a încordat arcul şi m-a făcut ţinta săgeţii Lui.

He hath bent his bow, and set me as a mark for the arrow.

13 M i-a străpuns inima cu săgeţi din tolba Lui.

He hath caused the shafts of his quiver to enter into my reins.

14 A m ajuns de râsul tuturor celor din poporul meu. Sunt batjocorit toată ziua în cântecele lor.

I am become a derision to all my people, and their song all the day.

15 M -a îndestulat cu ierburi amare şi m-a săturat cu pelin.

He hath filled me with bitterness, he hath sated me with wormwood.

16 M i-a zdrobit dinţii cu pietriş şi m-a culcat în cenuşă.

He hath also broken my teeth with gravel stones; he hath covered me with ashes.

17 M i-a luat pacea şi am uitat ce înseamnă fericirea.

And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace; I forgat prosperity.

18 A m zis: „S-a dus puterea mea de viaţă şi ceea ce nădăjduiam de la Domnul! “

And I said, My strength is perished, and mine expectation from Jehovah.

19 Î mi amintesc de durerea şi de rătăcirea mea, de amărăciune şi de pelin.

Remember mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall.

20 S ufletul meu îşi aduce aminte mereu de ele şi se întristează în mine.

My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is bowed down within me.

21 D ar iată ce-mi vine în minte şi ce mă face să mai nădăjduiesc:

This I recall to my mind; therefore have I hope.

22 „ Îndurările Domnului nu s-au sfârşit, mila Lui nu este la capăt.

It is of Jehovah's lovingkindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

23 E le se înnoiesc în fiecare dimineaţă; mare este credincioşia Ta!“

They are new every morning; great is thy faithfulness.

24 A m zis sufletului meu: „ Domnul este moştenirea mea şi de aceea voi nădăjdui în El!“

Jehovah is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

25 D omnul este bun cu cel ce nădăjduieşte în El, cu sufletul care-L caută.

Jehovah is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him.

26 B ine este să aştepţi în tăcere izbăvirea Domnului.

It is good that a man should hope and quietly wait for the salvation of Jehovah.

27 E ste bine ca omul să poarte un jug în tinereţea lui.

It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.

28 S ă stea singur şi să tacă, fiindcă Domnul l-a aşezat pe gâtul lui;

Let him sit alone and keep silence, because he hath laid it upon him.

29 s ă-şi umple gura cu ţărână – s-ar putea să mai existe nădejde;

Let him put his mouth in the dust, if so be there may be hope.

30 s ă-şi dea obrazul celui ce-l loveşte şi să se sature de insulte!

Let him give his cheek to him that smiteth him; let him be filled full with reproach.

31 F iindcă Stăpânul nu respinge pentru totdeauna.

For the Lord will not cast off for ever.

32 C i, când mâhneşte pe cineva, se îndură iarăşi de el, după bunătatea Lui cea mare.

For though he cause grief, yet will he have compassion according to the multitude of his lovingkindnesses.

33 C ăci El nu necăjeşte, nici nu întristează cu plăcere pe fiii oamenilor.

For he doth not afflict willingly, nor grieve the children of men.

34 C ând sunt călcaţi în picioare toţi prizonierii unei ţări,

To crush under foot all the prisoners of the earth,

35 c ând dreptatea umană este îndepărtată înaintea Celui Preaînalt,

To turn aside the right of a man before the face of the Most High,

36 c ând un om este nedreptăţit în cauza lui, nu vede, oare, Stăpânul?

To subvert a man in his cause, the Lord approveth not.

37 C ine poate spune ceva şi să se înfăptuiască, dacă Stăpânul nu a poruncit?

Who is he that saith, and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not?

38 O are nu din gura Celui Preaînalt vine şi nenorocirea, şi bunăstarea?

Out of the mouth of the Most High cometh there not evil and good?

39 A tunci de ce murmură omul, când este pedepsit pentru păcatele lui?

Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

40 S ă luăm aminte la căile noastre, să le cercetăm şi să ne întoarcem la Domnul.

Let us search and try our ways, and turn again to Jehovah.

41 S ă ne înălţăm inimile şi mâinile spre Dumnezeul din ceruri şi să spunem:

Let us lift up our heart with our hands unto God in the heavens.

42 „ Am păcătuit şi ne-am răzvrătit, iar Tu nu ai iertat!“

We have transgressed and have rebelled; thou hast not pardoned.

43 T e-ai învăluit cu mânie şi ne-ai urmărit; ai ucis fără milă.

Thou hast covered with anger and pursued us; thou hast slain, thou hast not pitied.

44 T e-ai învăluit cu un nor, ca nici o rugăciune să nu ajungă la Tine.

Thou hast covered thyself with a cloud, so that no prayer can pass through.

45 N e-ai prefăcut în gunoi şi în murdărie în mijlocul popoarelor.

Thou hast made us an off-scouring and refuse in the midst of the peoples.

46 T oţi vrăjmaşii noştri şi-au deschis larg gura împotriva noastră.

All our enemies have opened their mouth wide against us.

47 A m avut parte de groază şi de groapă, de prăpăd şi de distrugere.

Fear and the pit are come upon us, devastation and destruction.

48 Ş uvoaie de lacrimi se scurg din ochii mei căci fiica poporului meu a fost distrusă.

Mine eye runneth down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people.

49 O chii mi se vor topi de lacrimi neîncetat şi fără oprire,

Mine eye poureth down, and ceaseth not, without any intermission,

50 p ână când Domnul din ceruri va privi şi va lua aminte.

Till Jehovah look down, and behold from heaven.

51 M i s-a întristat sufletul când le-am văzut pe toate fiicele cetăţii mele.

Mine eye affecteth my soul, because of all the daughters of my city.

52 C ei ce-mi erau vrăjmaşi fără motiv m-au vânat ca pe o pasăre.

They have chased me sore like a bird, they that are mine enemies without cause.

53 A u încercat să-mi pună capăt vieţii într-o groapă şi au aruncat cu pietre în mine.

They have cut off my life in the dungeon, and have cast a stone upon me.

54 A pele s-au revărsat peste capul meu şi mi-am zis: „Sunt pierdut!“

Waters flowed over my head; I said, I am cut off.

55 D ar am chemat Numele Tău, Doamne, din adâncimile gropii.

I called upon thy name, O Jehovah, out of the lowest dungeon.

56 T u mi-ai auzit glasul: „Nu-Ţi astupa urechea la strigătele mele după ajutor!“

Thou heardest my voice; hide not thine ear at my breathing, at my cry.

57 Î n ziua când Te-am chemat, Te-ai apropiat şi mi-ai răspuns: „Nu te teme!“

Thou drewest near in the day that I called upon thee; thou saidst, Fear not.

58 S tăpâne, Tu ai apărat cauza sufletului meu, mi-ai răscumpărat viaţa!

O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.

59 D oamne, Tu ai văzut răul care mi s-a făcut! Judecă-mi cauza!

O Jehovah, thou hast seen my wrong; judge thou my cause.

60 A i văzut toată dorinţa lor de răzbunare şi planurile lor împotriva mea.

Thou hast seen all their vengeance and all their devices against me.

61 D oamne, Tu le-ai auzit batjocurile şi toate uneltirile îndreptate împotriva mea,

Thou hast heard their reproach, O Jehovah, and all their devices against me,

62 a i auzit şoaptele potrivnicilor mei şi murmurul lor îndreptat înspre mine toată ziua.

The lips of those that rose up against me, and their device against me all the day.

63 P riveşte! Şezând sau în picioare, ei mă batjocoresc în cântecele lor!

Behold thou their sitting down, and their rising up; I am their song.

64 R ăsplăteşte-le, Doamne, după faptele mâinilor lor!

Thou wilt render unto them a recompense, O Jehovah, according to the work of their hands.

65 P une un văl peste inimile lor şi fie blestemul Tău peste ei!

Thou wilt give them hardness of heart, thy curse unto them.

66 U rmăreşte-i în mânia Ta şi nimiceşte-i de sub ceruri, Doamne!

Thou wilt pursue them in anger, and destroy them from under the heavens of Jehovah.
