1 E lihu a continuat:

Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2 „ Ascultaţi cuvintele mele, înţelepţilor, ascultaţi-mă, voi cei ce aveţi cunoştinţă!

Hear my words, ye wise men; And give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3 C ăci urechea analizează cuvintele, aşa cum cerul gurii gustă mâncarea.

For the ear trieth words, As the palate tasteth food.

4 S ă alegem ce este drept; să învăţăm împreună ce este bine.

Let us choose for us that which is right: Let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 C ăci Iov a zis: «Sunt nevinovat, însă Dumnezeu nu-mi dă dreptate.

For Job hath said, I am righteous, And God hath taken away my right:

6 D eşi sunt drept, sunt considerat mincinos. Deşi sunt fără vină, săgeţile Lui mă rănesc şi nu mă mai vindec.»

Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar; My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

7 E ste vreun alt om ca Iov, care să bea batjocura ca pe apă,

What man is like Job, Who drinketh up scoffing like water,

8 c are să umble cu cei ce fac răul şi să se însoţească cu nelegiuiţii?

Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, And walketh with wicked men?

9 C ăci el a zis: «Nu e de nici un folos omului să-şi găsească desfătarea în Dumnezeu.»

For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing That he should delight himself with God.

10 D e aceea voi, oameni pricepuţi, ascultaţi-mă! Departe de Dumnezeu fărădelegea şi de Cel Atotputernic nedreptatea!

Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding: Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness, And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11 E l răsplăteşte omului după faptele lui şi dă fiecăruia după purtarea lui.

For the work of a man will he render unto him, And cause every man to find according to his ways.

12 D umnezeu nu poate săvârşi fărădelegea, Cel Atotputernic nu poate perverti dreptatea.

Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly, Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

13 C ine I-a încredinţat pământul? Cine I-a supus întreaga lume?

Who gave him a charge over the earth? Or who hath disposed the whole world?

14 D acă ar fi vrut să-Şi retragă duhul şi suflarea,

If he set his heart upon himself, If he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15 t oată omenirea ar pieri şi omul s-ar întoarce în ţărână.

All flesh shall perish together, And man shall turn again unto dust.

16 D acă ai pricepere, ascultă-mă, ia aminte la ce îţi voi spune!

If now thou hast understanding, hear this: Hearken to the voice of my words.

17 P oate stăpâni cel ce urăşte dreptatea? Îl vei condamna tu pe Cel Drept şi Puternic,

Shall even one that hateth justice govern? And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous and mighty?-

18 C are zice împăraţilor: «Ticăloşilor!», Care zice prinţilor: «Răilor!»,

Him that saith to a king, Thou art vile, Or to nobles, Ye are wicked;

19 C are nu părtineşte pe domnitori, nici nu face deosebire între bogat şi sărac, pentru că toţi sunt lucrarea mâinilor Sale?

That respecteth not the persons of princes, Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor; For they all are the work of his hands.

20 E i îşi pierd viaţa într-o clipă, la miezul nopţii; poporul se clatină şi piere. Cel puternic piere fără amestecul vreunei mâini.

In a moment they die, even at midnight; The people are shaken and pass away, And the mighty are taken away without hand.

21 O chii Săi cunosc căile oamenilor; El le vede fiecare pas.

For his eyes are upon the ways of a man, And he seeth all his goings.

22 N u există loc întunecos sau întuneric adânc unde să se ascundă cei ce fac răul.

There is no darkness, nor thick gloom, Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 C ăci nu de om depinde vremea în care să vină la judecată înaintea lui Dumnezeu.

For he needeth not further to consider a man, That he should go before God in judgment.

24 Î i scutură pe cei puternici fără cercetare şi-i pune pe alţii în locul lor.

He breaketh in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out, And setteth others in their stead.

25 P entru că le cunoaşte faptele, îi răstoarnă noaptea şi sunt zdrobiţi;

Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works; And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26 î i loveşte pentru răutatea lor înaintea ochilor tuturor,

He striketh them as wicked men In the open sight of others;

27 p entru că nu L-au mai urmat şi nu le-a mai păsat de nici una din căile Lui.

Because they turned aside from following him, And would not have regard in any of his ways:

28 E i au făcut ca strigătul celui sărac să ajungă înaintea Lui, aşa că El a auzit strigătul celui în necaz.

So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him, And he heard the cry of the afflicted.

29 C ând tace, cine-L poate condamna? Când Îşi ascunde faţa, cine-L poate vedea? La fel se poartă fie cu un neam, fie cu un om.

When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn? And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? Alike whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man:

30 A şa că cel lipsit de evlavie nu va domni, ca să nu fie o cursă pentru popor.

That the godless man reign not, That there be none to ensnare the people.

31 I -a spus cineva vreodată lui Dumnezeu: «Am răbdat pedeapsa, dar nu voi mai păcătui.»?

For hath any said unto God, I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

32 Î nvaţă-mă ceea ce nu văd! Dacă am făcut nedreptate, nu voi mai face!»

That which I see not teach thou me: If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

33 A r trebui El să îndrepte ceea ce a făcut pentru că tu protestezi? Tu trebuie să hotărăşti, nu eu! Deci spune ceea ce ştii!

Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it? For thou must choose, and not I: Therefore speak what thou knowest.

34 O amenii pricepuţi vorbesc ca mine, iar omul înţelept care mă aude, spune şi el:

Men of understanding will say unto me, Yea, every wise man that heareth me:

35 « Iov vorbeşte fără să cunoască, cuvintele lui sunt lipsite de chibzuinţă.»

Job speaketh without knowledge, And his words are without wisdom.

36 S ă fie încercat mai departe, pentru că vorbeşte ca un om rău.

Would that Job were tried unto the end, Because of his answering like wicked men.

37 E l adaugă răzvrătire la păcatul său, bate din palme între noi şi îşi înmulţeşte cuvintele împotriva lui Dumnezeu.“

For he addeth rebellion unto his sin; He clappeth his hands among us, And multiplieth his words against God.
