1 O profeţie cu privire la pustia de lângă mare. „Aşa cum se dezlănţuie vijelia în Neghev, tot astfel vine şi invadatorul din pustie, dintr-o ţară a terorii.

The burden of the wilderness of the sea. As whirlwinds in the South sweep through, it cometh from the wilderness, from a terrible land.

2 O viziune cumplită mi s-a arătat: trădătorul trădează, iar jefuitorul jefuieşte. Atacă, Elamule! Asediază, Medio! Tot suspinul pe care ţi l-a provocat îl voi opri.

A grievous vision is declared unto me; the treacherous man dealeth treacherously, and the destroyer destroyeth. Go up, O Elam; besiege, O Media; all the sighing thereof have I made to cease.

3 D e aceea trupul îmi este plin de durere; chinurile m-au cuprins, aşa cum o cuprind pe o femeie când naşte. Ceea ce aud, mă face să leşin, iar ceea ce văd, mă înspăimântă.

Therefore are my loins filled with anguish; pangs have taken hold upon me, as the pangs of a woman in travail: I am pained so that I cannot hear; I am dismayed so that I cannot see.

4 I nima mi se zbate şi, de spaimă, tremur; amurgul după care tânjeam cândva a devenit o groază pentru mine.

My heart fluttereth, horror hath affrighted me; the twilight that I desired hath been turned into trembling unto me.

5 A u pregătit masa, au întins păturile, mănâncă şi beau. Ridicaţi-vă, conducători, şi ungeţi-vă scuturile!

They prepare the table, they set the watch, they eat, they drink: rise up, ye princes, anoint the shield.

6 C ăci astfel mi-a vorbit Stăpânul: «Du-te şi pune un străjer, care să anunţe ceea ce vede!

For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Go, set a watchman: let him declare what he seeth:

7 C ând va vedea un car cu o pereche de cai şi călăreţi pe măgari şi pe cămile, să asculte cu atenţie, cu mare atenţie!»

and when he seeth a troop, horsemen in pairs, a troop of asses, a troop of camels, he shall hearken diligently with much heed.

8 S trăjerul a strigat: «Zi după zi, Stăpâne, stau într-un turn de pază şi, în fiecare noapte, veghez în postul meu.

And he cried as a lion: O Lord, I stand continually upon the watch-tower in the day-time, and am set in my ward whole nights;

9 I ată că vine un călăreţ într-un car având o pereche de cai!» El a strigat din nou: «A căzut! Babilonul a căzut! Toate chipurile zeilor lui stau sfărâmate la pământ!»

and, behold, here cometh a troop of men, horsemen in pairs. And he answered and said, Fallen, fallen is Babylon; and all the graven images of her gods are broken unto the ground.

10 O , poporul meu, zdrobit în aria de treierat, vă spun ce am auzit de la Domnul Oştirilor, Dumnezeul lui Israel.“

O thou my threshing, and the grain of my floor! that which I have heard from Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, have I declared unto you.

11 O profeţie cu privire la Duma. „Cineva mă strigă din Seir: – Străjer, cât a mai rămas din noapte? Străjer, cât a mai rămas din noapte?

The burden of Dumah. One calleth unto me out of Seir, Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?

12 S trăjerul răspunde: – Dimineaţa se apropie, dar apoi vine iarăşi noaptea. Dacă veţi dori să întrebaţi, întrebaţi; întoarceţi-vă, veniţi iarăşi!“

The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will inquire, inquire ye: turn ye, come.

13 O profeţie cu privire la Arabia. „Voi, caravane ale dedaniţilor, care vă întindeţi corturile printre tufişurile Arabiei,

The burden upon Arabia. In the forest in Arabia shall ye lodge, O ye caravans of Dedanites.

14 a duceţi apă celor însetaţi! Voi, locuitori din ţinutul Tema, daţi pâine fugarilor!

Unto him that was thirsty they brought water; the inhabitants of the land of Tema did meet the fugitives with their bread.

15 E i fug dinaintea săbiilor, dinaintea sabiei scoase, dinaintea arcului întins şi dinaintea unei lupte înverşunate.“

For they fled away from the swords, from the drawn sword, and from the bent bow, and from the grievousness of war.

16 S tăpânul mi-a vorbit astfel: „Într-un an, numărat ca anii unui simbriaş, toată gloria Chedarului se va sfârşi.

For thus hath the Lord said unto me, Within a year, according to the years of a hireling, all the glory of Kedar shall fail;

17 S upravieţuitorii arcaşilor, vitejii fiilor Chedarului vor fi puţini, pentru că Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel, a vorbit.“

and the residue of the number of the archers, the mighty men of the children of Kedar, shall be few; for Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath spoken it.
