1 E lihu also proceeded, and said,

Prosseguiu ainda Eliú e disse:

2 S uffer me a little, and I will show thee; For I have yet somewhat to say on God's behalf.

Espera-me um pouco, e mostrar-te-ei que ainda há razões a favor de Deus.

3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar, And will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

De longe trarei o meu conhecimento, e ao meu criador atribuirei a justiça.

4 F or truly my words are not false: One that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

Pois, na verdade, as minhas palavras não serão falsas; contigo está um que tem perfeito conhecimento.

5 B ehold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: He is mighty in strength of understanding.

Eis que Deus é mui poderoso, contudo a ninguém despre grande é no poder de entendimento.

6 H e preserveth not the life of the wicked, But giveth to the afflicted their right.

Ele não preserva a vida do ímpio, mas faz justiça aos aflitos.

7 H e withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: But with kings upon the throne He setteth them for ever, and they are exalted.

Do justo não aparta os seus olhos; antes com os reis no trono os faz sentar para sempre, e assim são exaltados.

8 A nd if they be bound in fetters, And be taken in the cords of afflictions;

E se estão presos em grilhões, e amarrados com cordas de aflição,

9 T hen he showeth them their work, And their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly.

então lhes faz saber a obra deles, e as suas transgressões, porquanto se têm portado com soberba.

10 H e openeth also their ear to instruction, And commandeth that they return from iniquity.

E abre-lhes o ouvido para a instrução, e ordena que se convertam da iniqüidade.

11 I f they hearken and serve him, They shall spend their days in prosperity, And their years in pleasures.

Se o ouvirem, e o servirem, acabarão seus dias em prosperidade, e os seus anos em delícias.

12 B ut if they hearken not, they shall perish by the sword, And they shall die without knowledge.

Mas se não o ouvirem, ã espada serão passados, e expirarão sem conhecimento.

13 B ut they that are godless in heart lay up anger: They cry not for help when he bindeth them.

Assim os ímpios de coração amontoam, a sua ira; e quando Deus os põe em grilhões, não clamam por socorro.

14 T hey die in youth, And their life perisheth among the unclean.

Eles morrem na mocidade, e a sua vida perece entre as prostitutas.

15 H e delivereth the afflicted by their affliction, And openeth their ear in oppression.

Ao aflito livra por meio da sua aflição, e por meio da opressão lhe abre os ouvidos.

16 Y ea, he would have allured thee out of distress Into a broad place, where there is no straitness; And that which is set on thy table would be full of fatness.

Assim também quer induzir-te da angústia para um lugar espaçoso, em que não há aperto; e as iguarias da tua mesa serão cheias de gordura.

17 B ut thou art full of the judgment of the wicked: Judgment and justice take hold on thee.

Mas tu estás cheio do juízo do ímpio; o juízo e a justiça tomam conta de ti.

18 F or let not wrath stir thee up against chastisements; Neither let the greatness of the ransom turn thee aside.

Cuida, pois, para que a ira não te induza a escarnecer, nem te desvie a grandeza do resgate.

19 W ill thy cry avail, that thou be not in distress, Or all the forces of thy strength?

Prevalecerá o teu clamor, ou todas as forças da tua fortaleza, para que não estejas em aperto?

20 D esire not the night, When peoples are cut off in their place.

Não suspires pela noite, em que os povos sejam tomados do seu lugar.

21 T ake heed, regard not iniquity: For this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

Guarda-te, e não declines para a iniqüidade; porquanto isso escolheste antes que a aflição.

22 B ehold, God doeth loftily in his power: Who is a teacher like unto him?

Eis que Deus é excelso em seu poder; quem é ensinador como ele?

23 W ho hath enjoined him his way? Or who can say, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?

Quem lhe prescreveu o seu caminho? Ou quem poderá dizer: Tu praticaste a injustiça?

24 R emember that thou magnify his work, Whereof men have sung.

Lembra-te de engrandecer a sua obra, de que têm cantado os homens.

25 A ll men have looked thereon; Man beholdeth it afar off.

Todos os homens a vêem; de longe a contempla o homem.

26 B ehold, God is great, and we know him not; The number of his years is unsearchable.

Eis que Deus é grande, e nós não o conhecemos, e o número dos seus anos não se pode esquadrinhar.

27 F or he draweth up the drops of water, Which distil in rain from his vapor,

Pois atrai a si as gotas de água, e do seu vapor as destila em chuva,

28 W hich the skies pour down And drop upon man abundantly.

que as nuvens derramam e gotejam abundantemente sobre o homem.

29 Y ea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, The thunderings of his pavilion?

Poderá alguém entender as dilatações das nuvens, e os trovões do seu pavilhão?

30 B ehold, he spreadeth his light around him; And he covereth the bottom of the sea.

Eis que ao redor de si estende a sua luz, e cobre o fundo do mar.

31 F or by these he judgeth the peoples; He giveth food in abundance.

Pois por estas coisas julga os povos e lhes dá mantimento em abundância.

32 H e covereth his hands with the lightning, And giveth it a charge that it strike the mark.

Cobre as mãos com o relâmpago, e dá-lhe ordem para que fira o alvo.

33 T he noise thereof telleth concerning him, The cattle also concerning the storm that cometh up.

O fragor da tempestade dá notícia dele; até o gado pressente a sua aproximação.
