1 E very wise woman buildeth her house; But the foolish plucketh it down with her own hands.

2 H e that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah; But he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

Идущий прямым путем боится Господа, а тот, чьи пути кривы, Его презирает.

3 I n the mouth of the foolish is a rod for his pride; But the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

В устах глупца – плеть для его спины, а уста мудрецов хранят их.

4 W here no oxen are, the crib is clean; But much increase is by the strength of the ox.

Где нет быков, кормушка пуста; но где сильные быки, там обильная жатва.

5 A faithful witness will not lie; But a false witness uttereth lies.

Правдивый свидетель не станет лгать, а лживый свидетель дышит ложью.

6 A scoffer seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not; But knowledge is easy unto him that hath understanding.

Глумливый ищет мудрости, но не находит, а разумному знание дается легко.

7 G o into the presence of a foolish man, And thou shalt not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.

Держись от глупца подальше, от него ты мудрости не дождешься.

8 T he wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way; But the folly of fools is deceit.

Мудрость разумных – свой путь понимать, а коварство – это глупость глупцов.

9 A trespass-offering mocketh fools; But among the upright there is good will.

Глупцы смеются над приношением за вину, а к праведным – Божье благоволение.

10 T he heart knoweth its own bitterness; And a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.

Сердце знает свою беду, и радости его чужой не разделит.

11 T he house of the wicked shall be overthrown; But the tent of the upright shall flourish.

Дом нечестивых будет разрушен, а шатер праведных будет процветать.

12 T here is a way which seemeth right unto a man; But the end thereof are the ways of death.

Бывает путь, который кажется человеку прямым, но в конце его – пути смерти.

13 E ven in laughter the heart is sorrowful; And the end of mirth is heaviness.

Даже при смехе может болеть душа, и радость может окончиться скорбью.

14 T he backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways; And a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

Сполна по заслугам получит отступник, а хороший человек – по своим делам.

15 T he simple believeth every word; But the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Простак верит всему, но разумный следит за своими шагами.

16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil; But the fool beareth himself insolently, and is confident.

Мудрец осторожен и чуждается зла, а глупец необуздан и беззаботен.

17 H e that is soon angry will deal foolishly; And a man of wicked devices is hated.

Гневливый делает глупости, и лукавого ненавидят.

18 T he simple inherit folly; But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

Глупость – удел простаков, а разумных венчает знание.

19 T he evil bow down before the good; And the wicked, at the gates of the righteous.

Злодеи будут кланяться перед добрыми, и нечестивые – у ворот праведника.

20 T he poor is hated even of his own neighbor; But the rich hath many friends.

Бедных не любят даже их соседи, а у богатых много друзей.

21 H e that despiseth his neighbor sinneth; But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

Презирающий ближнего – грешит, но блажен, кто добр к нуждающимся.

22 D o they not err that devise evil? But mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

Разве умышляющие зло не сбились с пути? А те, чьи намерения добры, находят любовь и верность.

23 I n all labor there is profit; But the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

От всякого тяжелого труда бывает прибыль, а пустословие приносит только нужду.

24 T he crown of the wise is their riches; But the folly of fools is only folly.

Венец мудрых – их богатство, а глупость – венок глупцов.

25 A true witness delivereth souls; But he that uttereth lies causeth deceit.

Правдивый свидетель спасает жизни, а лживый свидетель – предатель.

26 I n the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence; And his children shall have a place of refuge.

Кто боится Господа – тот в неприступной крепости, и детям его будет прибежище.

27 T he fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life, That one may depart from the snares of death.

Страх перед Господом – источник жизни, отводящий от сетей смерти.

28 I n the multitude of people is the king's glory; But in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

Слава царя – во множестве народа, а без подданных правителю гибель.

29 H e that is slow to anger is of great understanding; But he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

У терпеливого – великий разум, а гневливый выказывает глупость.

30 A tranquil heart is the life of the flesh; But envy is the rottenness of the bones.

Спокойное сердце – здоровье телу, а от зависти кости гниют.

31 H e that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker; But he that hath mercy on the needy honoreth him.

Кто притесняет бедных, тот презирает Творца их, а добрый к нуждающимся чтит Бога.

32 T he wicked is thrust down in his evil-doing; But the righteous hath a refuge in his death.

Нечестивых губит их же злодейство, а праведнику и в смерти прибежище.

33 W isdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding; But that which is in the inward part of fools is made known.

Мудрость покоится в сердце разумных, и среди глупцов дает знать о себе.

34 R ighteousness exalteth a nation; But sin is a reproach to any people.

Праведность возносит народ, а грех – позор для него.

35 T he king's favor is toward a servant that dealeth wisely; But his wrath will be against him that causeth shame.

Царю угоден слуга разумный, но падет его гнев на того, кто позорит его.
