1 A nd Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.

Иаков посмотрел и увидел, что идет Исав и с ним четыреста человек. Он разделил детей между Лией, Рахилью и двумя служанками.

2 A nd he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.

Он поставил служанок и их детей впереди, Лию и ее детей за ними, а Рахиль с Иосифом позади всех.

3 A nd he himself passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.

Сам же он пошел вперед и, приближаясь к брату, поклонился до земли семь раз.

4 A nd Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.

Но Исав побежал Иакову навстречу, обнял его, бросился ему на шею и расцеловал его, и они заплакали.

5 A nd he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are these with thee? And he said, The children whom God hath graciously given thy servant.

Исав посмотрел, увидел женщин и детей и спросил: – Кто это с тобой? Иаков ответил: – Это дети, которых Бог милостиво дал твоему слуге.

6 T hen the handmaids came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.

Подошли служанки со своими детьми и поклонились.

7 A nd Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.

Потом подошли и поклонились Лия и ее дети. После всех подошли Иосиф и Рахиль и тоже поклонились.

8 A nd he said, What meanest thou by all this company which I met? And he said, To find favor in the sight of my lord.

Исав спросил Иакова: – Почему ты послал все эти стада мне навстречу? – Я хотел найти расположение в твоих глазах, мой господин, – ответил он.

9 A nd Esau said, I have enough, my brother; let that which thou hast be thine.

Исав сказал: – У меня всего вдоволь, брат. Оставь свое себе.

10 A nd Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found favor in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand; forasmuch as I have seen thy face, as one seeth the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.

– Нет, прошу тебя! – сказал Иаков. – Если я нашел расположение в твоих глазах, прими от меня этот дар. Для меня видеть твое лицо – это как увидеть лицо Бога, ты ведь принял меня так милостиво.

11 T ake, I pray thee, my gift that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.

Пожалуйста, прими от меня эти дары, потому что Бог был милостив ко мне, и у меня есть все, что мне нужно. Иаков настаивал, и Исав принял дары.

12 A nd he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.

Потом Исав сказал: – Идем, пора отправляться в путь, я буду держаться рядом с тобой.

13 A nd he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young: and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.

Но Иаков ответил: – Мой господин знает, что дети слабы и что я должен заботиться о дойных овцах и коровах: если их сильно гнать хотя бы один день, то животные погибнут.

14 L et my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.

Так что пусть мой господин идет впереди своего слуги, а я пойду медленно, как смогут идти стада впереди меня и как смогут идти дети, пока не приду к моему господину в Сеир.

15 A nd Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find favor in the sight of my lord.

Исав сказал: – Позволь мне оставить с тобой несколько моих людей. – Зачем же? – спросил Иаков. – Достаточно и того, что я нашел расположение в глазах моего господина.

16 S o Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.

Так что Исав в тот же день отправился в обратный путь к себе в Сеир.

17 A nd Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him a house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.

Иаков же пошел в Суккот, где он построил себе жилище и сделал шалаши для скота. Вот почему это место называется Суккот.

18 A nd Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram; and encamped before the city.

Иаков благополучно прибыл в город Шехем в Ханаане – придя из Паддан-Арама – и поселился перед городом.

19 A nd he bought the parcel of ground, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem's father, for a hundred pieces of money.

За сто кесит он купил у сыновей Хамора, отца Шехема, участок земли, на котором поставил свой шатер.

20 A nd he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-israel.

Там он установил жертвенник и назвал его «Бог, Бог Израиля».
