1 T hen David spoke with the captains of the thousands and the hundreds and with every leader about what should be done.

Ora, Davi consultou os chefes dos milhares, e das centenas, a saber, todos os oficiais.

2 D avid spoke to all the people of Israel. He said, “If you think it is good, and if it is from the Lord our God, let us send word to our brothers who are staying in all the land of Israel. Let us send word to the religious leaders and Levites who are with them in their cities that have fields. And let us ask them to meet with us.

E disse Davi a toda a congregação de Israel: Se bem vos parece, e se isto vem do Senhor nosso Deus, enviemos mensageiros por toda parte aos nossos outros irmãos que estão em todas as terras de Israel, e com eles aos sacerdotes e levitas nas suas cidades, e nos seus campos, para que se reunam conosco,

3 L et us bring the special box with the Law of our God to us. For we did not think of it in the days of Saul.”

e tornemos a trazer para nós a arca do nosso Deus; porque não a buscamos nos dias de Saul.

4 T hen all the people said that they would do so. For it was right in the eyes of all the people.

E toda a congregação concordou em que assim se fizesse; porque isso pareceu reto aos olhos de todo o povo.

5 S o David gathered all Israel together, from the Shihor of Egypt to the gate of Hamath, to bring the special box of God from Kiriath-jearim.

Convocou, pois, Davi todo o Israel desde Sior, o ribeiro do Egito, até a entrada de Hamate, para trazer de Quiriate-Jearim a arca de Deus.

6 D avid and all Israel went up to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim which belongs to Judah. They went to bring the special box of God. It is called by the name of the Lord Who sits on His throne above the cherubim.

E Davi, com todo o Israel, subiu a Baalá, isto é, a Quiriate-Jearim, que está em Judá, para fazer subir dali a arca de Deus, a qual se chama pelo nome do Senhor, que habita entre os querubins.

7 T hey carried the special box of God on a new wagon from the house of Abinadab. And Uzza and Ahio drove the wagon.

Levaram a arca de Deus sobre um carro novo, tirando-a da casa de Abinadabe; e Uzá e Aiô guiavam o carro.

8 D avid and all Israel were showing their joy before God with all their strength. They were singing and playing harps and timbrels, and blowing horns.

Davi e todo o Israel alegravam-se perante Deus com todas as suas forças, cantando e tocando harpas, alaúdes, tamboris, címbalos e trombetas.

9 W hen they came to the grain-floor of Chidon, the cattle pulling the wagon tripped. And Uzza put out his hand to hold the special box of God.

Quando chegaram a eira de Quidom, Uzá estendeu a mão para segurar a arca, porque os bois tropeçavam.

10 T hen the anger of the Lord burned against Uzza. So He killed him because Uzza had put out his hand to the special box of God, so before God he died.

Então se acendeu a ira do Senhor contra Uzá, e o Senhor o feriu por ter estendido a mão ã arca; e ele morreu ali perante Deus.

11 T hen David became angry because the Lord had killed Uzza in His anger. That place is called Perez-uzza to this day.

E Davi se encheu de desgosto porque o Senhor havia irrompido contra Uzá; pelo que chamou aquele lugar Pérez-Uzá, como se chama até o dia de hoje.

12 D avid was afraid of God that day, saying, “How can I bring the special box of God home to me?”

Temeu Davi a Deus naquele dia, e disse: Como trarei a mim a arca de Deus?

13 S o David did not take the special box of God with him to the city of David. He took it aside to the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

Pelo que não trouxe a arca a si para a cidade de Davi, porém a fez retirar para a casa de Obede-Edom, o giteu.

14 T he special box of God stayed with the family of Obed-edom in his house for three months. The Lord brought good to Obed-edom’s family and all that he had.

Assim ficou a arca de Deus com a família de Obede-Edom, três meses em sua casa; e o Senhor abençoou a casa de Obede-Edom, e tudo o que lhe pertencia.
