1 ¶ The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

2 B eloved, I wish that thou be prospered in all things and be sound, even as thy soul prospers.

Възлюбени, моля се да благоуспяваш във всичко и да си здрав, както благоуспява душата ти.

3 ¶ For I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou dost walk in the truth.

Защото много се зарадвах, когато дойдоха някои братя и засвидетелстваха за твоята вярност, че ти ходиш в истината.

4 I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my sons walk in the truth.

Няма по-голяма радост за мен от това, да слушам, че моите чеда ходят в истината.

5 B eloved, thou doest faithfully whatever thou doest regarding the brethren and with the strangers,

Възлюбени, ти вършиш вярна работа във всичко, каквото правиш за братята, и то за чужденци,

6 w ho have borne witness of thy charity before the congregation, whom if thou wilt help them as is convenient according to God, thou shalt do well;

които свидетелстваха пред църквата за твоята любов. Добре ще направиш да ги изпратиш, както подобава пред Бога;

7 b ecause for his name’s sake, they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

защото за Христовото име излязоха, без да вземат нещо от езичниците.

8 W e, therefore, ought to receive such, that we might be fellow workers to the truth.

Затова ние сме длъжни да посрещаме такива с радост, за да бъдем съработници за истината.

9 ¶ I wrote unto the congregation, but Diotrephes, who loves to have the preeminence among them, did not receive us.

Писах няколко думи до църквата; но Диотреф, който обича да бъде пръв между тях, не ни приема.

10 T herefore, if I come, I will cause his deeds to be understood, speaking against us with malicious words, and not content with this, he does not receive the brethren and forbids those that desire to receive them and casts them out of the congregation.

Затова, ако дойда, ще му напомня за делата, които върши, като дърдори против нас лоши думи. И като не се задоволява с това, той не просто сам не приема братята, но възпира и тези, които искат да ги приемат, и ги гони от църквата.

11 B eloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that does good is of God, but he that does evil has not seen God.

Възлюбени, не подражавай на злото, но на доброто. Който върши добро, е от Бога; който върши зло, не е видял Бога.

12 ¶ Everyone gives testimony of Demetrius, even the truth itself; and we also bear witness, and ye have known that our witness is true.

За Димитрий се свидетелства добро от всички и от самата истина; а още и ние свидетелстваме; и ти знаеш, че нашето свидетелство е истинно.

13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee,

Имах много да ти пиша, но не искам да ти пиша с мастило и перо,

14 F or I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

а се надявам скоро да те видя и да поговорим лице в лице. Мир на тебе. Поздравяват те приятелите. Поздрави приятелите по име. _____ На гръцки: уста с уста.
