1 ¶ Moreover Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Let me now choose out twelve thousand men, and I will arise and pursue after David this night,

Ахитофел каза още на Авесалом: Да избера ли сега дванадесет хиляди мъже и да стана ли да преследвам Давид още тази нощ?

2 a nd I will come upon him while he is weary and weak-handed and will make him afraid, and all the people that are with him shall flee; and I will smite the king only.

Ще налетя върху него, като е уморен и ръцете му отслабнали. Ще го уплаша; и всички хора, които са с него, ще побегнат и ще поразя само царя.

3 T hus will I turn all the people back unto thee, and when they have returned (for that man is whom thou dost seek), all the people shall be in peace.

Така ще възвърна целия народ към тебе, защото убиването на мъжа, когото ти търсиш, значи възвръщането на всички. Целият народ ще се примири.

4 A nd this word seemed right in the eyes of Absalom and of all the elders of Israel.

И това предложение се хареса на Авесалом и на всички Израелеви старейшини.

5 T hen Absalom said, Now call Hushai, the Archite, also, and let us likewise hear what he says.

Тогава Авесалом каза: Повикай сега архиеца Хусай и нека чуем какво ще каже и той.

6 A nd when Hushai came to Absalom, Absalom spoke unto him, saying, Thus spoke Ahithophel; shall we follow his word or not? Speak thou.

И когато Хусай влезе при Авесалом, Авесалом каза: Така предлага Ахитофел. Да постъпим ли според неговия съвет? Ако не, говорѝ ти.

7 T hen Hushai said unto Absalom, The counsel that Ahithophel has given this time is not good.

Хусай отговори на Авесалом: Не е добър съветът, който Ахитофел даде този път.

8 F or, said Hushai, thou knowest thy father and his men, that they are mighty men, and now their souls are bitter, as a bear robbed of her whelps in the field. And thy father is a man of war and will not lodge with the people.

Хусай каза още: Ти знаеш, че баща ти и неговите мъже са силни мъже и че са преогорчени в душа - като мечка, лишена от малките си в полето. И баща ти като военен мъж няма да пренощува с народа.

9 B ehold, he is hid now in some pit or in some other place, and if some of thy men are overthrown at the beginning, whoever hears of it will say, There is a slaughter among the people that follow Absalom.

Сега се е скрил в някой трап или на някое друго място. Когато падне някой от твоите хора в началото на сражението, всеки, който чуе за това, ще каже: Поражение става между народа, който следва Авесалом.

10 T hus even the valiant, whose heart is as the heart of a lion, shall utterly melt, for all Israel knows that thy father is a mighty man and those who are with him are valiant men.

Тогава даже юнакът, чието сърце е като на лъв, съвсем ще примре. Защото целият Израел знае, че баща ти е юнак и че онези, които са с него, са храбри мъже.

11 T herefore I counsel that all Israel be generally gathered unto thee from Dan even to Beersheba, as the sand that is by the sea for multitude, and that thou go to battle in thine own person.

Моят съвет е - по-добре да се събере при тебе целият Израел от Дан до Вирсавее, по брой, както пясъкът край морето, и ти лично да идеш в боя.

12 T hen we shall come upon him in some place where he shall be found, and we will light upon him as the dew falls on the ground; and of him and of all the men that are with him, there shall not be left so much as one.

Така ще налетим върху него в някое място, там, където се намира, и ще го нападнем, както пада росата на земята, така че от него и от всички хора, които са с него, няма да оставим нито един.

13 M oreover, if he goes into a city, then all Israel shall bring ropes to that city, and we will draw it into the river until not even one small stone is found there.

Или ако намери убежище в някой град, тогава целият Израел ще донесе до онзи град въжета и ще го завлечем до потока, така че там да не остане нито едно камъче.

14 T hen Absalom and all the men of Israel said, The counsel of Hushai, the Archite, is better than the counsel of Ahithophel. For the LORD had given orders to defeat the good counsel of Ahithophel, to the intent that the LORD might bring evil upon Absalom.

Тогава Авесалом и всички Израелеви мъже казаха: Съветът на архиеца Хусай е по-добър от съвета на Ахитофел. (Защото Господ беше решил да осуети добрия съвет на Ахитофел, за да нанесе зло на Авесалом.)

15 ¶ Then Hushai said unto Zadok and to Abiathar, the priests, Thus and thus did Ahithophel counselled Absalom and the elders of Israel, and thus and thus have I counselled.

Тогава Хусай каза на свещениците Садок и Авиатар: Такъв и такъв съвет даде Ахитофел на Авесалом и Израелевите старейшини; а така и така ги посъветвах аз.

16 N ow, therefore, send quickly and tell David, saying, Do not lodge this night in the plains of the wilderness, but speedily pass the Jordan; lest the king be swallowed up and all the people that are with him.

И така, сега пратете бързо известие на Давид: Не оставай тази нощ при бродовете в пустинята, а непременно премини Йордан, за да не погинат царят и целият народ, който е с него.

17 N ow Jonathan and Ahimaaz stayed by Enrogel, for they could not be seen coming into the city; and a maidservant went and told them, and they went and told King David.

А Йонатан и Ахимаас стояха при извора Рогил, защото не смееха да влязат явно в града. Затова една слугиня отиде да им извести това и те отидоха и известиха на цар Давид.

18 N evertheless, a young man saw them and told Absalom, but both of them went away quickly and came to a man’s house in Bahurim, who had a well in his court, and they went down into it.

А един момък ги видя и съобщи на Авесалом; но двамата отидоха бързо и влязоха в къщата на един човек във Ваурим, който имаше кладенец в двора си, и се спуснаха в него.

19 A nd the woman of the house took and spread a covering over the well’s mouth and spread ground wheat upon it, and the thing was not known.

Тогава жена му взе една покривка, простря я върху отвора на кладенеца и насипа върху нея чукано жито, така че нищо не се забелязваше.

20 A nd when Absalom’s slaves came to the woman to the house, they said, Where is Ahimaaz and Jonathan? And the woman said unto them, They have gone over the brook of water. And when they had sought and could not find them, they returned to Jerusalem.

И когато Авесаломовите слуги дойдоха при жената в къщата и попитаха: Къде са Ахимаас и Йонатан? Жената им каза: Преминаха водния поток. И те ги потърсиха, но като не ги намериха, се върнаха в Йерусалим.

21 A nd it came to pass, after they had departed, that they came up out of the well and went and told King David and said unto David, Arise and pass quickly over the water, for thus has Ahithophel counselled against you.

А след заминаването им двамата излязоха от кладенеца и отидоха, и известиха на цар Давид. Казаха на Давид: Станете и преминете бързо реката, защото Ахитофел даде такъв съвет против вас.

22 ¶ Then David arose and all the people that were with him, and they passed over the Jordan before the morning light; there lacked not one of them that was not gone over the Jordan.

Тогава Давид и целият народ, който беше с него, станаха и преминаха Йордан; до зори не остана нито един, който да не беше преминал Йордан.

23 A nd when Ahithophel saw that his counsel was not followed, he saddled his ass and arose, and went home to his house, to his city, and put his household in order and hanged himself and died and was buried in the sepulchre of his father.

А Ахитофел, като видя, че съветът му не бе възприет, оседла осела си, стана и отиде у дома си, в своя град. И като нареди домашните си работи, се обеси. Така умря; и беше погребан в бащиния си гроб.

24 T hen David came to Mahanaim. And Absalom passed the Jordan with all the men of Israel.

Тогава Давид дойде в Маханаим; а Авесалом премина Йордан заедно с всички Израелеви мъже, които бяха с него.

25 A nd Absalom made Amasa captain of the host instead of Joab; this Amasa was the son of a man of Israel named Ithra, who had gone in to Abigail, the daughter of Nahash, sister to Zeruiah, Joab’s mother.

Авесалом постави Амаса за военачалник вместо Йоав. (А Амаса беше син на един човек на име Итра, израелтянин, който беше влязъл при Авигея, Наасовата дъщеря, сестра на Саруйя, Йоавовата майка.)

26 S o Israel pitched camp with Absalom in the land of Gilead.

И Израел и Авесалом разположиха стана си в галаадската земя.

27 A nd it came to pass, when David arrived at Mahanaim, that Shobi, the son of Nahash of Rabbah of the sons of Ammon; and Machir, the son of Ammiel of Lodebar; and Barzillai, the Gileadite of Rogelim,

А когато Давид дойде в Маханаим, Совей, Наасовият син, от Рава на амонците, Махир, Амииловият син, от Ло-девар, и галаадецът Верзелай, от Рогелим,

28 b rought beds and basins and earthen vessels and wheat and barley and flour and parched wheat and beans and lentils and parched grain

донесоха постелки, легени и пръстени съдове, жито, ечемик, брашно, пържено жито, боб, леща и други печени храни,

29 a nd honey and butter and sheep and cheese of cows for David and for the people that were with him, to eat, for they said, These people are hungry and weary and thirsty in the wilderness.

мед, масло, овце и говеждо сирене на Давид и на народа с него, за да ядат. Защото си казаха: Народът е гладен, изнемощял и жаден в пустинята.
