1 ¶ And Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had come together in Shechem to make him king.

Ровоам отиде в Сихем; защото в Сихем се беше стекъл целият Израел, за да го направи цар.

2 A nd when Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, heard it, who was in Egypt, where he had fled from the presence of Solomon, the king, Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

А Еровоам, Наватовият син, който беше в Египет, където беше побегнал от присъствието на цар Соломон, когато чу това, Еровоам се върна от Египет;

3 A nd they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spoke to Rehoboam, saying,

защото пратиха и го повикаха. Тогава Еровоам и целият Израел дойдоха и говориха на Ровоам:

4 T hy father made our yoke grievous; now, therefore, ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

Баща ти направи непоносим хомота ни; и така, сега ти облекчи жестокото ни работене на баща ти и тежкия хомот, който наложи върху нас, и ще ти работим.

5 A nd he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.

А той им отвърна: Върнете се при мене след три дни. И народът си отиде.

6 T hen King Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon, his father, while he yet lived, saying, What do you counsel to reply to this people?

Тогава цар Ровоам се съветва със старейшините, които бяха служили пред баща му Соломон, когато беше още жив, като каза: Как ме съветвате да отговоря на този народ?

7 A nd they spoke unto him, saying, If thou wilt seek the good of this people and please them and speak good words to them, they will be thy slaves for ever.

Те му отговориха: Ако се отнесеш благосклонно към този народ и им угодиш, и им говориш благи думи, тогава те ще ти бъдат слуги завинаги.

8 B ut he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

Но той отхвърли съвета, който старейшините му дадоха, и се съветва с младите си служители, които бяха пораснали заедно с него.

9 A nd he said unto them, What do you counsel us to reply to this people, who have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

Каза им: Как ме съветвате вие да отговорим на този народ, който ми говори: Облекчи хомота, който баща ти наложи върху нас?

10 T hen the young men that were brought up with him spoke unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spoke unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger is thicker than my father’s loins.

И младите, които бяха пораснали заедно с него, му отговориха: Така да кажеш на народа, който ти говори: Баща ти направи тежък хомота ни, но ти да ни го облекчиш - така да им кажеш: Малкият ми пръст ще бъде по-дебел от бащиния ми кръст.

11 F or whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

Сега, ако баща ми ви е товарил с тежък хомот, то аз ще направя още по-тежък хомота ви; ако баща ми ви е наказвал с бичове, то аз ще ви наказвам със скорпиони.

12 ¶ So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king had commanded, saying, Come again to me on the third day.

Тогава Еровоам и целият народ дойдоха при Ровоам на третия ден, според както царят беше говорил: Върнете се при мене на третия ден.

13 A nd the king answered them roughly, for King Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men

Царят им отговори остро, като изостави съвета на старейшините

14 a nd answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

и им говорѝ по съвета на младежите: Баща ми направи тежък хомота ви, но аз ще му добавя; баща ми ви наказа с бичове, а аз ще ви накажа със скорпиони.

15 S o the king did not hearken unto the people, for the cause was of God, that the LORD might perform his word, which he spoke by the hand of Ahijah, the Shilonite, unto Jeroboam, the son of Nebat.

Така царят не послуша народа; защото това нещо стана от Бога, за да изпълни словото, което Господ беше говорил чрез силонеца Ахия на Еровоам, Наватовия син.

16 A nd when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David or inheritance in the son of Jesse? Every man to your tents, O Israel! Now, David, see to thine own house! So all Israel went to their tents.

А като видя целият Израел, че царят не ги послуша, народът отговори на царя: Какъв дял имаме ние в Давид? Никакво наследство нямаме в Есеевия син! Всеки в шатрите си, Израелю! Сега знай своя дом, Давиде. И така целият Израел си отиде в шатрите.

17 B ut Rehoboam reigned over the sons of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah.

А колкото до израелтяните, които живееха в Юдовите градове, Ровоам царуваше над тях.

18 T hen King Rehoboam sent Hadoram, who was over the tribute and the sons of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. So King Rehoboam made speed to get into a chariot and fled to Jerusalem.

Тогава цар Ровоам прати при другите израелтяни Адорам, който беше над набора; но израелтяните го биха с камъни и той умря. Затова цар Ровоам побърза да се качи на колесницата си, за да побегне в Йерусалим.

19 T hus Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

Така Израел въстана против Давидовия дом и остава въстанал до днес.
