1 O Lord, take me away from sinful men. Keep me safe from men who want to hurt others.

Для дириґетна хору. Псалом Давидів. (140-2) Визволь мене від людини лихої, о Господи, бережи мене від насильника,

2 T hey make sinful plans in their hearts. They always start wars.

(140-3) що в серці своїм замишляють злі речі, що війни щодня викликають!

3 T hey make their tongues sharp like a snake’s. And the poison of a snake is under their lips.

(140-4) Вони гострять свого язика, як той вуж, отрута гадюча під їхніми устами! Села.

4 O Lord, keep me from the hands of the sinful. Keep me safe from men who want to hurt others and have planned to trip my feet.

(140-5) Пильнуй мене, Господи, від рук нечестивого, бережи мене від насильника, що задумали стопи мої захитати...

5 T he proud have hidden a trap for me. With ropes they have spread a net. They have set traps for me beside the road.

(140-6) Чванливі сховали на мене тенета та шнури, розтягли свою сітку при стежці, сільця розмістили на мене! Села.

6 I said to the Lord, “You are my God. Listen to the voice of my prayers, O Lord.

(140-7) Я сказав Господеві: Ти Бог мій, почуй же, о Господи, голос благання мого!

7 O God the Lord, the strength that saves me, You have covered my head in the day of battle.

(140-8) Господи, Владико мій, сило мого спасіння, що в день бою покрив мою голову,

8 O Lord, do not give the sinful what they want. Do not let their plans work, or they will be honored.

(140-9) не виконай, Господи, бажань безбожного, не здійсни його задуму! Села.

9 “ As for those who gather around me, may the wrong-doing of their lips come upon their heads.

(140-10) Бодай голови не піднесли всі ті, хто мене оточив, бодай зло їхніх уст їх покрило!

10 M ay burning coals fall upon them. May they be thrown into the fire, into deep holes, and rise no more.

(140-11) Хай присок на них упаде, нехай кине Він їх до огню, до провалля, щоб не встали вони!...

11 D o not let the man whose talking hurts people stand in the land. May trouble hurry to catch and destroy the man who wants to hurt others.”

(140-12) Злоязична людина щоб міцною вона не була на землі, людина насильства бодай лихо спіймало її, щоб попхнути на погибіль!

12 I know that the Lord will stand by those who suffer and do what is right for the poor.

(140-13) Я знаю, що зробить Господь правосуддя убогому, присуд правдивий для бідних,

13 F or sure those who are right and good will give thanks to Your name. Those who are right will live with You.

(140-14) тільки праведні дякувати будуть іменню Твоєму, невинні сидітимуть перед обличчям Твоїм!
