1 A fter that Paul went from the city of Athens and came to the city of Corinth.

2 H e met a Jew there named Aquila who was born in the country of Pontus. He had lived in the country of Italy a short time. His wife Priscilla was with him. Claudius, who was the leader of the country, had told all the Jews to leave Rome. Paul went to see Aquila and Priscilla.

І знайшов він одного юдея, на ймення Акилу, родом із Понту, що недавно прибув із Італії, та Прискиллу, його дружину, бо Клавдій звелів усім юдеям, щоб покинули Рим. І до них він прийшов,

3 T hey made tents for a living. Paul did the same kind of work so he stayed with them and they worked together.

а що був він того ж ремесла, то в них позостався та працював; ремесло ж їхнє було виробляти намети.

4 E very Day of Rest he would go to the Jewish place of worship and teach both Jews and Greeks.

І він щосуботи розмову точив у синагозі, переконуючи юдеїв та гелленів.

5 S ilas and Timothy came down from the country of Macedonia. Then Paul used all his time preaching to the Jews. He taught that Jesus was the Christ.

А коли прибули Сила та Тимофій з Македонії, Павло слову віддався, і він свідчив юдеям, що Ісус то Христос.

6 B ut they worked against Paul and said bad things about him. He shook his clothes and said, “Whatever happens to you is your own doing. I am free from your guilt. From now on I will go to the people who are not Jews.”

Як вони ж спротивлялися та богозневажали, то він обтрусив одежу свою та промовив до них: Ваша кров на голову вашу! Я чистий. Відтепер я піду до поган.

7 P aul went from there and came to the house of a man named Titus Justus who worshiped God. His house was next to the Jewish place of worship.

І, вийшовши звідти, він прибув до господи одного, на ім'я Тита Юста, що був богобійний, його ж дім межував із синагогою.

8 C rispus was the leader of the Jewish place of worship. He and his family believed in the Lord. Many of the people of Corinth who heard Paul became Christians and were baptized.

А Крисп, старший синагоги, увірував в Господа з усім домом своїм; і багато з коринтян, почувши, увірували й охристились.

9 P aul saw the Lord in a dream one night. He said to Paul, “Do not be afraid. Keep speaking. Do not close your mouth.

Сказав же Павлові Господь у видінні вночі: Не бійся, але говори й не мовчи,

10 I am with you. No one will hurt you. I have many people in this city who belong to Me.”

бо з тобою ось Я, і на тебе ніхто не накинеться, щоб тобі заподіяти зло, бо Я маю в цім місті багато людей.

11 F or a year and a half Paul stayed there and taught them the Word of God.

І позостався він рік і шість місяців, навчаючи в них Слова Божого.

12 G allio was leader of the country of Greece. All the Jews worked against Paul and brought him in front of the court.

А коли Галліон був в Ахаї проконсулом, то проти Павла однодушно повстали юдеї, і на суд привели його,

13 T hey said, “This man is trying to get people to worship God against the Law.”

кажучи: Цей людей намовляє, щоб Богові честь віддавали незгідно з Законом!

14 P aul was ready to speak, but Gallio said to the Jews, “If this were something bad or a wrong doing, I would listen to you.

Як Павло ж хотів уста відкрити, сказав Галліон до юдеїв: О юдеї, якби сталася кривда яка, або злий учинок, то я б справедливо вас вислухав.

15 B ut because it is about words and names and your own Law, you will have to take care of it yourselves. I do not want to judge who is right or wrong in things like this.”

Та коли спір іде про слово та ймення й Закон ваш, то самі доглядайте, я суддею цього бути не хочу.

16 A nd he sent them out of his court.

І прогнав їх від суду.

17 T hen all the Greek people took Sosthenes, the leader of the Jewish place of worship, and beat him in front of the court. But Gallio did not let this trouble him. Paul Goes Back to Antioch

Тоді всі схопили Состена, начальника над синагогою, та й перед судом його били. Галліон же на те зовсім не зважав.

18 P aul stayed in Corinth many days longer. Then he said good-bye and left the followers. He went by ship to the country of Syria with Priscilla and Aquila going with him. In the city of Cenchrea he had his hair cut short because of a promise he had made to God.

А Павло, перебувши доволі ще днів, попрощався з братами, і поплинув у Сирію, і з ним Прискилла й Акила; він у Кенхреях обстриг собі голову, бо обітницю дав був.

19 T hey came to the city of Ephesus. Priscilla and Aquila stayed there. Paul went to the Jewish place of worship and argued with the Jews.

І прибув він в Ефес, і там їх позоставив, а сам у синагогу ввійшов і розмовляв із юдеями.

20 T hey wanted him to stay longer but he would not.

Як просили ж його довший час позостатися в них, то він не згодився,

21 A s he left them, he said, (“I must go to the special supper at Jerusalem.) I will return again to you if God wants me to.” Then he got on a ship and left Ephesus.

але попрощався й сказав: Знов вернуся до вас, коли буде на те воля Божа! І відплив із Ефесу.

22 H e stopped in the city of Caesarea to greet the people in the church. Then he went down to the city of Antioch.

І, побувши в Кесарії, він піднявся, і, привіт славши Церкві, відбув в Антіохію.

23 P aul stayed there for some time. Then he went from city to city through the countries of Galatia and Phrygia. In each place he helped the Christians become strong in the faith. Aquila and Priscilla Help Apollos in Ephesus

І, пробувши там деякий час, він вибрався в подорож знову, за порядком проходячи через країну галатську та Фріґію, та всіх учнів зміцняючи.

24 A Jew by the name of Apollos had come to Ephesus. He was from the city of Alexandria. He could talk to people about the Holy Writings very well.

Один же юдей, на ім'я Аполлос, родом з Олександрії, красномовець та сильний в Писанні, прибув до Ефесу.

25 H e had been taught in the way of the Lord. And with a strong desire in his heart, he taught about Jesus. What he said was true, but he knew only about the baptism of John.

Він був навчений дороги Господньої, і, палаючи духом, промовляв і про Господа пильно навчав, знаючи тільки Іванове хрищення.

26 H e began to speak without fear in the Jewish place of worship. Aquila and Priscilla heard him. They took him to their house and taught him much more about the things of God.

І він сміливо став промовляти в синагозі. Як Акила й Прискилла почули його, то його прийняли, і докладніш розповіли йому про дорогу Господню.

27 A pollos wanted to cross over to Greece. The Christians wrote a letter to the followers there asking them to be good to him. When he got there, he was much help to those who had put their trust in Christ.

А коли він схотів перейти до Ахаї, брати написали до учнів, нагадуючи, щоб його прийняли. А прибувши, помагав він багато тим, хто ввірував благодаттю,

28 I n front of everyone he proved with great power that the Jews were wrong. He showed from the Holy Writings that Jesus was the Christ.

бо він переконував пильно юдеїв, Писанням прилюдно доводячи, що Ісус то Христос.
