1 W hen all the nation had crossed the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua,

І сталося, як увесь народ закінчив переходити Йордан, то сказав Господь до Ісуса, говорячи:

2 “ Choose twelve men from the people, one man from each family.

Візьміть собі з народу дванадцять мужів, по одному мужеві з племени.

3 T ell them, ‘Take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan. Take them from the place where the religious leaders’ feet are standing. Carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you stay tonight.’”

І накажете їм, говорячи: Винесіть звідси, із середини Йордану, із місця, де міцно стояли ноги священиків, дванадцять каменів, і перенесете їх із собою, і покладете їх на нічлігу, що в ньому будете ночувати цієї ночі.

4 S o Joshua called the twelve men he had chosen from the sons of Israel, one man from each family.

І покликав Ісус тих дванадцятьох мужів, що настановив з Ізраїлевих синів, по одному мужеві з племени,

5 A nd Joshua said to them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan in front of the special box of the agreement of the Lord your God. Each of you take a stone on his shoulder, one for each of the twelve family groups of Israel.

та й сказав їм Ісус: Підіть перед ковчегом Господа, Бога вашого, до середини Йордану, і підійміть собі кожен на плече своє одного каменя за числом племен Ізраїлевих синів,

6 L et this be something special among you. Your children will ask you later, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

щоб то було знаком між вами, коли взавтра запитають ваші сини, говорячи: Що це в вас за каміння?

7 T hen you will tell them that the water of the Jordan was cut off before the special box of the agreement of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the water of the Jordan was cut off. So these stones will become something to remember to the people of Israel forever.”

то скажете їм, що була відділена йорданська вода перед ковчегом Господнього заповіту, коли він переходив в Йордані, була відділена йорданська вода. І будуть ті каміння за пам'ятку для Ізраїлевих синів аж навіки.

8 T he sons of Israel did as Joshua told them. They took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as the Lord told Joshua. There was one stone for each family group of the sons of Israel. They carried them over with them to the place where they stayed, and put them down there.

І зробили Ізраїлеві сини так, як наказав Ісус, і понесли вони дванадцять каменів із середини Йордану, як говорив Господь до Ісуса, за числом племен Ізраїлевих синів. І перенесли їх із собою до нічлігу, та й поклали їх там.

9 T hen Joshua set up twelve stones at the place where the feet of the religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement were standing in the middle of the Jordan. They are there to this day.

А інших дванадцять каменів поставив Ісус в середині Йордану на місці, де стояли ноги священиків, що несли ковчега заповіту, і вони там аж до дня цього.

10 T he religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement stood in the middle of the Jordan. They stood there until everything was finished that the Lord told Joshua to tell the people, all that Moses had told Joshua. The people crossed in a hurry.

А священики, що несли ковчега, стояли в середині Йордану аж до закінчення всього, що Господь наказав був Ісусові сказати народові, згідно з усім тим, що наказав був Мойсей Ісусові. А народ квапився і переходив.

11 W hen all the people were over, they watched the religious leaders carry the special box of the agreement to the other side.

І сталося, як увесь народ скінчив переходити, то перейшов Господній ковчег та священики перед народом.

12 T he sons of Reuben and Gad and the half-family group of Manasseh crossed over ready for battle before the people of Israel, just as Moses had told them.

І перейшли Рувимові сини й сини Ґадові та половина племени Манасіїного, озброєні до бою, перед Ізраїлевими синами, як Мойсей говорив був до них.

13 A bout 40, 000 soldiers ready for battle crossed before the Lord to the desert plains of Jericho.

Коло сорока тисяч озброєних вояків перейшли перед Господнім лицем на війну до єрихонських степів.

14 O n that day the Lord gave Joshua honor in the eyes of all Israel. So they honored him as a great man just as they had honored Moses all the days of his life.

Того дня звеличив Господь Ісуса на очах усього Ізраїля, і стали боятися його, як боялися Мойсея по всі дні його життя.

15 T he Lord said to Joshua,

І сказав Господь до Ісуса, говорячи:

16 “ Tell the religious leaders who carry the special box of the agreement to come up from the Jordan.”

Накажи священикам, що носять ковчега заповіту, і нехай вони вийдуть з Йордану.

17 S o Joshua told the religious leaders to come up from the Jordan.

І наказав Ісус священикам, говорячи: Вийдіть з Йордану!

18 T he religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement of the Lord came up from the middle of the Jordan. When their feet stepped on dry ground, the water of the Jordan returned to its place. It flowed over its sides as before.

І сталося, коли священики, що несли ковчега Господнього заповіту, вийшли з середини Йордану, а стопи ніг священиків відірвалися від нього, щоб стати на сухому, то вода Йордану вернулася на своє місце, і пішла, як учора-позавчора, по всіх його берегах.

19 T he people came up from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month. Then they stayed at Gilgal on the east side of Jericho.

А народ вийшов із Йордану десятого дня першого місяця, та й таборував у Ґілґалі, на східньому боці Єрихону.

20 J oshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.

А дванадцять тих каменів, що взяли з Йордану, Ісус поставив у Ґілґалі.

21 H e said to the people of Israel, “Your children will ask their fathers some time in the future, ‘What do these stones mean?’

І сказав він до Ізраїлевих синів, говорячи: Коли взавтра запитають вас ваші сини своїх батьків, говорячи: Що це за каміння?

22 T hen let your children know that Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.

то познайомте ваших синів, говорячи: По сухому перейшов був Ізраїль цей Йордан,

23 F or the Lord your God dried up the water of the Jordan before you until you had crossed. It was just as the Lord your God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed.

бо Господь, Бог ваш, висушив воду Йордану перед вами, аж поки ви не перейшли, як зробив був Господь, Бог ваш, морю Червоному, яке Він висушив перед нами, аж поки ми не перейшли,

24 N ow all the people of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is powerful, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

щоб усі народи землі пізнали руку Господню, що сильна вона, щоб боялися ви Господа, Бога вашого, по всі дні.
