1 W hen all the nation had crossed the Jordan, the Lord said to Joshua,

Y sucedió que cuando todo el pueblo acabó de pasar el Jordán, el Señor habló a Josué, diciendo:

2 “ Choose twelve men from the people, one man from each family.

Escoged doce hombres del pueblo, uno de cada tribu,

3 T ell them, ‘Take twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan. Take them from the place where the religious leaders’ feet are standing. Carry them over with you, and lay them down in the place where you stay tonight.’”

y ordenadles, diciendo: “Tomad doce piedras de aquí, de en medio del Jordán, del lugar donde los pies de los sacerdotes están firmes, y llevadlas con vosotros y colocadlas en el alojamiento donde habéis de pasar la noche.”

4 S o Joshua called the twelve men he had chosen from the sons of Israel, one man from each family.

Llamó, pues, Josué a los doce hombres que había señalado de entre los hijos de Israel, uno de cada tribu;

5 A nd Joshua said to them, “Go into the middle of the Jordan in front of the special box of the agreement of the Lord your God. Each of you take a stone on his shoulder, one for each of the twelve family groups of Israel.

y Josué les dijo: Pasad delante del arca del Señor vuestro Dios al medio del Jordán, y alce cada uno una piedra sobre su hombro, de acuerdo con el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel.

6 L et this be something special among you. Your children will ask you later, ‘What do these stones mean to you?’

Sea esto una señal entre vosotros, y más tarde cuando vuestros hijos pregunten, diciendo: “¿Qué significan estas piedras para vosotros ?”,

7 T hen you will tell them that the water of the Jordan was cut off before the special box of the agreement of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the water of the Jordan was cut off. So these stones will become something to remember to the people of Israel forever.”

les diréis: “Es que las aguas del Jordán quedaron cortadas delante del arca del pacto del Señor; cuando ésta pasó el Jordán, las aguas del Jordán quedaron cortadas.” Así que estas piedras servirán como recuerdo a los hijos de Israel para siempre.

8 T he sons of Israel did as Joshua told them. They took up twelve stones from the middle of the Jordan, just as the Lord told Joshua. There was one stone for each family group of the sons of Israel. They carried them over with them to the place where they stayed, and put them down there.

Y lo hicieron así los hijos de Israel, tal como Josué ordenó, y alzaron doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, como el Señor dijo a Josué, según el número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel; y las llevaron consigo al alojamiento y allí las depositaron.

9 T hen Joshua set up twelve stones at the place where the feet of the religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement were standing in the middle of the Jordan. They are there to this day.

Entonces Josué levantó doce piedras en medio del Jordán, en el lugar donde habían estado los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto, y allí permanecen hasta hoy.

10 T he religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement stood in the middle of the Jordan. They stood there until everything was finished that the Lord told Joshua to tell the people, all that Moses had told Joshua. The people crossed in a hurry.

Porque los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca estuvieron parados en medio del Jordán hasta que se cumpliera todo lo que el Señor había mandado a Josué que dijera al pueblo, de acuerdo con todo lo que Moisés había mandado a Josué. Y el pueblo se apresuró y pasó;

11 W hen all the people were over, they watched the religious leaders carry the special box of the agreement to the other side.

y sucedió que cuando todo el pueblo había acabado de pasar, el arca del Señor y los sacerdotes pasaron delante del pueblo.

12 T he sons of Reuben and Gad and the half-family group of Manasseh crossed over ready for battle before the people of Israel, just as Moses had told them.

Y los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés pasaron en orden de batalla delante de los hijos de Israel, tal como Moisés les había dicho;

13 A bout 40, 000 soldiers ready for battle crossed before the Lord to the desert plains of Jericho.

como cuarenta mil, equipados para la guerra, pasaron delante del Señor hacia los llanos de Jericó, listos para la batalla.

14 O n that day the Lord gave Joshua honor in the eyes of all Israel. So they honored him as a great man just as they had honored Moses all the days of his life.

Aquel día el Señor engrandeció a Josué ante los ojos de todo Israel; y le temieron, tal como habían temido a Moisés todos los días de su vida.

15 T he Lord said to Joshua,

Entonces habló el Señor a Josué, diciendo:

16 “ Tell the religious leaders who carry the special box of the agreement to come up from the Jordan.”

Ordena a los sacerdotes que llevan el arca del testimonio que suban del Jordán.

17 S o Joshua told the religious leaders to come up from the Jordan.

Y Josué mandó a los sacerdotes, diciendo: Subid del Jordán.

18 T he religious leaders who carried the special box of the agreement of the Lord came up from the middle of the Jordan. When their feet stepped on dry ground, the water of the Jordan returned to its place. It flowed over its sides as before.

Y sucedió que cuando los sacerdotes que llevaban el arca del pacto del Señor subieron de en medio del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes salieron a tierra seca, las aguas del Jordán volvieron a su lugar y corrieron sobre todas sus riberas como antes. Las piedras erigidas en Gilgal

19 T he people came up from the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month. Then they stayed at Gilgal on the east side of Jericho.

El pueblo subió del Jordán el día diez del mes primero y acamparon en Gilgal al lado oriental de Jericó.

20 J oshua set up at Gilgal the twelve stones they had taken from the Jordan.

Y aquellas doce piedras que habían sacado del Jordán, Josué las erigió en Gilgal.

21 H e said to the people of Israel, “Your children will ask their fathers some time in the future, ‘What do these stones mean?’

Y habló a los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Cuando vuestros hijos pregunten a sus padres el día de mañana, diciendo: “¿Qué significan estas piedras?”,

22 T hen let your children know that Israel crossed this Jordan on dry ground.

entonces lo explicaréis a vuestros hijos, diciendo: “Israel cruzó este Jordán en tierra seca.”

23 F or the Lord your God dried up the water of the Jordan before you until you had crossed. It was just as the Lord your God had done to the Red Sea, which He dried up before us until we had crossed.

Porque el Señor vuestro Dios secó las aguas del Jordán delante de vosotros hasta que pasasteis, tal como el Señor vuestro Dios había hecho al mar Rojo, el cual El secó delante de nosotros hasta que pasamos,

24 N ow all the people of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is powerful, so that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

para que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan que la mano del Señor es poderosa, a fin de que temáis al Señor vuestro Dios para siempre.
