1 ¶ When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what is before thee;

Когато седнеш да ядеш с началник, Прегледай добре какво има пред тебе

2 a nd put a knife to thy throat if thou art a man given to appetite.

Иначе ще туриш нож в гърлото си. Ако те обладава охота,

3 D o not be desirous of his dainties; for they are deceitful food.

Не пожелавай вкусните му ястия, Защото те са примамливи гозби.

4 ¶ Do not labour to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom.

Не се старай да придобиеш богатство, Остави се от тая си мисъл.

5 W ilt thou set thine eyes upon riches which are not? For they shall certainly make themselves wings; they shall fly away as an eagle toward heaven.

Хвърляш ли на него очите си, - то го няма! Защото наистина богатството си прави крила, Както орел ще лети към небето.

6 ¶ Do not eat the bread of anyone who has an evil eye, neither desire his dainty foods;

Не яж хляба на онзи, който има лошо око, Нито пожелавай вкусните му ястия,

7 f or as he thinks in his soul, so is he; Eat and drink, he shall say unto thee, but his heart is not with thee.

Защото, каквито са мислите в душата му - такъв е и той. Каза ти: Яж и пий, Но сърцето му не е с тебе.

8 D idst thou eat thy part? Thou shalt vomit it up and lose thy sweet words.

Залъка, който си изял, ще избълваш, И ще изгубиш сладките си думи.

9 ¶ Do not speak in the ears of a fool, for he will despise the prudence of thy words.

Не говори на ушите на безумния, Защото той ще презре разумността на думите ти.

10 ¶ Do not remove the old landmark, and do not enter into the inheritance of the fatherless:

Не премествай стари межди, Нито влизай в нивите на сирачетата,

11 F or their redeemer is mighty; he shall judge their cause against thee.

Защото Изкупителят им е мощен; Той ще защити делото им против тебе.

12 ¶ Apply thine heart unto chastening and thine ears to the words of wisdom.

Предай сърцето си на поука И ушите си към думи на знание.

13 D o not withhold correction from the child; for if thou shall beat him with the rod, he shall not die.

Да не ти се свиди да наказваш детето, Защото, ако и да го биеш с пръчка, то няма да умре.

14 T hou shalt beat him with the rod and shalt deliver his soul from Sheol.

Ти, като го биеш с пръчката, Ще избавиш душата му от ада.

15 M y son, if thy heart is wise, my heart shall also rejoice;

Сине мой, ако бъде сърцето ти мъдро, То и на моето сърце ще е драго.

16 m y kidneys shall also rejoice when thy lips speak right things.

Да! сърцето ми ще се радва, Когато устните ти изговарят правото

17 ¶ Let not thy heart envy sinners, but persevere in the fear of the LORD all day long.

Сърцето ти да не завижда на грешните, Но да пребъдва в страх от Господа цял ден,

18 F or surely there is an end, and thy hope shall not be cut off.

Защото наистина има бъдеще, И надеждата ти няма да се отсече.

19 ¶ Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and straighten thy heart in the way.

Ти, сине мой, слушай и бъди мъдър, И оправяй сърцето си в пътя,

20 D o not be among those who are drunk with wine; nor among gluttonous eaters of food;

Не бъди между винопийци, Между невъздържани месоядци,

21 f or the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty, and drowsiness shall cause them to wear rags.

Защото пияницата и чревоугодникът ще осиромашеят, И дремливостта ще облече човек в дрипи.

22 H earken unto thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.

Слушай баща си, който те е родил, И не презирай майка си, когато остарее.

23 B uy the truth and sell it not, also wisdom and instruction and understanding.

Купувай истината и не я продавай, Тоже и мъдростта, поуката и разума.

24 T he father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice, and he that begets a wise child shall have joy with him.

Бащата на праведния ще се радва много, И който ражда мъдро чадо ще има радост от него.

25 T hy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bore thee shall rejoice.

Прочее, нека се веселят твоят баща и твоята майка, И да се възхищава оная, която те е родила.

26 M y son, give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways.

Сине мой, дай сърцето си на мене, И очите ти нека внимават в моите пътища,

27 F or a whore is a deep ditch and a strange woman is a narrow pit.

Защото блудницата е дълбока яма, И чуждата жена е тесен ров.

28 S he also lies in wait as for a prey and increases the transgressors among men.

Да! тя причаква като зла плячка, И умножава числото на неверните между човеците.

29 ¶ For who shall be the woe? for who shall be the woe? for who contention? for who quarrels? for who the wounds without cause? who shall have redness of eyes?

Кому горко? кому скръб? кому каране? Кому оплакване? кому удари без причина? Кому подпухнали очи? -

30 F or those that tarry long at the wine; those that go to seek mixed wine.

На ония, които се бавят около виното, Които отиват да вкусят подправено вино.

31 D o not look upon the wine when it is red, when it gives its colour in the cup, it goes down smoothly.

Не гледай виното, че е червено, Че показва цвета си в чашата, Че се поглъща гладко,

32 A t the last it bites like a serpent and stings like an adder.

Защото после то хапе като змия, И жили като ехидна.

33 T hine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.

Очите ти ще гледат чужди жени, И сърцето ти ще изригва развратни неща;

34 Y ea, thou shalt be as he that lies down in the midst of the sea or as he that sleeps at the rudder.

Даже ще бъдеш като един, който би легнал всред море, Или като един, който би лежал на върха на мачта.

35 T hey have stricken me, thou shalt say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not; when I shall awake, I will seek it yet again.

Удариха ме ще речеш, и не ме заболя; Биха ме, и не усетих. Кога ще се събудя за да го търся пак?
