1 A nd Bildad the Shuhite answered and said,

Entonces Bildad el suhita, dijo:

2 H ow long wilt thou speak these things? and the words of thy mouth be a strong wind?

«¿Cuánto tiempo vas a hablar así, con palabras impetuosas como el viento?

3 D oth God pervert judgment, and the Almighty pervert justice?

Dios no pervierte la justicia; el Todopoderoso no retuerce el derecho.

4 I f thy children have sinned against him, he hath also given them over into the hand of their transgression.

Si tus hijos pecaron contra él, murieron porque él les dio su merecido.

5 I f thou seek earnestly unto God, and make thy supplication to the Almighty,

Pero si tú buscas al Dios Todopoderoso, desde muy temprano imploras su compasión,

6 I f thou be pure and upright, surely now he will awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous;

él te brindará su protección y te restaurará tus bienes, siempre y cuando actúes con pureza y rectitud.

7 A nd though thy beginning was small, yet thine end shall be very great.

Las pocas riquezas que llegaste a poseer no podrán compararse con las que tendrás después.

8 F or inquire, I pray thee, of the former generation, and attend to the researches of their fathers;

»Consulta la experiencia de los que ya pasaron, y disponte a averiguar lo que sus padres descubrieron.

9 F or we are of yesterday, and know nothing, for our days upon earth are a shadow.

Nosotros nacimos ayer, y muy poco sabemos; nuestros días en este mundo pasan como una sombra.

10 S hall not they teach thee, tell thee, and utter words out of their heart?

Ellos te hablarán y te enseñarán; te hablarán con el corazón en la mano.

11 D oth the papyrus shoot up without mire? doth the reed-grass grow without water?

¿Acaso crecen los juncos si no hay pantano? ¿O crecen los papiros donde no hay agua?

12 W hilst it is yet in its greenness not cut down, it withereth before any grass.

Sin embargo, aún verdes y sin haberlos cortado, se marchitan antes que cualquier otra hierba.

13 S o are the paths of all that forget God; and the profane man's hope shall perish,

Así también son los que de Dios se olvidan; así termina la esperanza de los malvados.

14 W hose confidence shall be cut off, and his reliance is a spider's web.

Toda su esperanza y su confianza es tan frágil como la tela de una araña.

15 H e shall lean upon his house, and it shall not stand; he shall lay hold on it, but it shall not endure.

Quien se apoye en sus hilos, no quedará en pie; en cuanto los agarre, se reventarán.

16 H e is full of sap before the sun, and his sprout shooteth forth over his garden;

Son como la hierba verde y tendida al sol, que esparce sus renuevos por todo el jardín;

17 H is roots are entwined about the stoneheap; he seeth the place of stones.

echan raíces en torno a una fuente, y se arraigan en lugares pedregosos;

18 I f he destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him: I have not seen thee!

pero si son arrancados de su sitio nadie sabrá si alguna vez estuvieron allí.

19 B ehold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the dust shall others grow.

Tal vez disfrute de su corta prosperidad, pero allí mismo brotarán otros renuevos.

20 B ehold, God will not cast off a perfect man, neither will he take evil-doers by the hand.

»Dios no rechaza al de conducta intachable, ni tiende la mano al que vive en la maldad.

21 W hilst he would fill thy mouth with laughing and thy lips with shouting,

Así que él volverá a hacerte reír, y en tus labios pondrá una radiante sonrisa.

22 T hey that hate thee shall be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked be no more.

Tus enemigos serán avergonzados, y sus casas serán destruidas.»
