1 N ebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was sixty cubits, its breadth six cubits; he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon.

El rey Nabucodonosor mandó que se erigiera una estatua de oro en el campo de Dura, en la provincia de Babilonia, la cual medía sesenta codos de alto y seis codos de ancho.

2 A nd Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the justices, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Luego el rey ordenó que se reunieran los sátrapas, magistrados, capitanes, oidores, tesoreros, consejeros y jueces, lo mismo que el resto de los gobernadores de las provincias, y que asistieran a la dedicación de la estatua que él había mandado erigir.

3 T hen the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the justices, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up.

Y así, sátrapas, magistrados, capitanes, oidores, tesoreros, consejeros, jueces y demás gobernadores de las provincias hicieron acto de presencia en la dedicación de la estatua que el rey Nabucodonosor había mandado erigir.

4 A nd the herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, peoples, nations, and languages,

El pregonero anunciaba en voz alta: «A ustedes, pueblos, naciones y lenguas, se les ordena

5 t hat at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, pipe, lute, sambuca, psaltery, bagpipe, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up;

que, al oír las bocinas y las flautas, los tamboriles, las arpas, los salterios y las zampoñas, y cualquier otro instrumento musical, se arrodillen y adoren la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor ha mandado erigir.

6 a nd whosoever doth not fall down and worship shall that same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

Todo el que no se arrodille ante ella ni la adore será inmediatamente arrojado a un ardiente horno de fuego.»

7 T herefore at that time when all the peoples heard the sound of the cornet, pipe, lute, sambuca, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the peoples, the nations, and the languages fell down worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up.

Por eso, en cuanto todos los pueblos, naciones y lenguas escucharon el sonido de bocinas, flautas, tamboriles, arpas, salterios, zampoñas y otros instrumentos musicales, se arrodillaron delante de la estatua de oro que el rey Nabucodonosor había mandado erigir, y la adoraron.

8 W hereupon at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews.

Por esos días, algunos caldeos aprovecharon la ocasión para acusar a los judíos.

9 T hey spoke and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever!

Se presentaron ante el rey Nabucodonosor y le dijeron: «¡Que tenga Su Majestad una larga vida!

10 T hou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, pipe, lute, sambuca, psaltery, and bagpipe, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image;

Su Majestad ha decretado que, al oír el sonido de bocinas, flautas, tamboriles, arpas, salterios y zampoñas, y de cualquier otro instrumento musical, todos deben arrodillarse ante la estatua de oro y adorarla,

11 a nd whosoever doth not fall down and worship, shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace.

y que quien no se arrodille y la adore sea arrojado a un ardiente horno de fuego.

12 T here are certain Jews whom thou hast appointed over the administration of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego: these men, O king, regard thee not; they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image that thou hast set up.

Pues resulta que Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, esos judíos a los que Su Majestad puso a cargo de los negocios de la provincia de Babilonia, no respetan a Su Majestad, ya que no adoran a sus dioses ni a la estatua de oro que Su Majestad mandó erigir.»

13 T hen Nebuchadnezzar in rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. Then were these men brought before the king.

Nabucodonosor se indignó mucho, y ordenó que llevaran ante él a Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, y éstos al instante fueron llevados a la presencia del rey.

14 N ebuchadnezzar spoke and said unto them, Is it of purpose, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, that ye serve not my god, nor worship the golden image that I have set up?

Entonces Nabucodonosor habló con ellos, y les dijo: «Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, ¿es verdad que ustedes no honran a mi dios, ni adoran la estatua de oro que mandé erigir?

15 N ow if ye be ready at the time that ye hear the sound of the cornet, pipe, lute, sambuca, psaltery, and bagpipe, and all kinds of music, to fall down and worship the image that I have made,: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast that same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace: and who is the God that shall deliver you out of my hands?

Díganme entonces si, al oír el sonido de bocinas, flautas, tamboriles, arpas, salterios y zampoñas, y otros instrumentos musicales, están dispuestos a arrodillarse ante la estatua que he mandado hacer, y adorarla. Porque si no la adoran, en ese mismo instante serán arrojados a un ardiente horno de fuego, y entonces ¿qué dios podrá librarlo de mis manos?»

16 S hadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer thee in this matter.

Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego respondieron al rey Nabucodonosor: «No tenemos por qué responder a Su Majestad acerca de esto.

17 I f it be, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver out of thy hand, O king.

Su Majestad va a ver que nuestro Dios, a quien servimos, puede librarnos de ese ardiente horno de fuego, y también puede librarnos del poder de Su Majestad.

18 B ut if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image that thou hast set up.

Pero aun si no lo hiciera, sepa Su Majestad que no serviremos a sus dioses, ni tampoco adoraremos la estatua que ha mandado erigir.»

19 T hen was Nebuchadnezzar full of fury, and the form of his visage was changed against Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego. He spoke, and commanded that they should heat the furnace seven times more than it was wont to be heated.

Entonces Nabucodonosor se llenó de ira, y su semblante cambió en contra de Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, así que ordenó calentar el horno siete veces más de lo acostumbrado.

20 A nd he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace.

Luego ordenó que los hombres más fuertes de su ejército ataran a Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, y los arrojaran al ardiente horno de fuego.

21 T hen these men were bound in their hosen, their tunics, and their cloaks, and their garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

Fue así como estos jóvenes fueron atados y arrojados, junto con sus mantos, sandalias, turbantes, y toda su vestimenta, a ese candente horno de fuego.

22 F orasmuch as the king's commandment was rigorous, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that had taken up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego.

La orden del rey fue tan apremiante, y el horno estaba tan candente, que las llamas mataron a quienes arrojaron a Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego,

23 A nd these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

mientras los tres jóvenes caían atados dentro del candente horno de fuego.

24 T hen Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonied, and rose up in haste; he spoke and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said to the king, True, O king.

El rey Nabucodonosor se espantó, y rápidamente se levantó y dijo a los de su consejo: «¿Acaso no eran tres los jóvenes que arrojaron atados al fuego?» Ellos le respondieron: «Así es en verdad, Su Majestad.»

25 H e answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the appearance of the fourth is like a son of God.

Y el rey dijo: «Pues yo veo a cuatro jóvenes sueltos, que se pasean en medio del fuego y sin que sufran daño alguno. ¡Y el aspecto del cuarto joven es como el de un hijo de los dioses!»

26 T hen Nebuchadnezzar came near to the opening of the burning fiery furnace; he spoke and said, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, ye servants of the Most High God, come forth, and come. Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego came forth from the midst of the fire.

Dicho esto, Nabucodonosor se acercó a la puerta del horno encendido, y dijo: «Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, siervos del Dios Altísimo, ¡salgan de allí y vengan acá!» Entonces Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego salieron del fuego,

27 A nd the satraps, the prefects, and the governors, and the king's counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had had no power, nor was the hair of their head singed, neither were their hosen changed, nor had the smell of fire passed on them.

mientras los sátrapas, los gobernadores, los capitanes y los consejeros del rey se juntaban para mirar a estos jóvenes, a quienes el fuego no había podido quemarles el cuerpo, y ni siquiera un solo cabello de la cabeza. Sus vestidos estaban intactos, y ni siquiera olían a humo.

28 N ebuchadnezzar spoke and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants who trusted in him, and who changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God!

En ese momento, Nabucodonosor exclamó: «Bendito sea el Dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, que envió su ángel y libró a sus siervos, pues confiaron en él y no cumplieron mi edicto. Prefirieron entregar sus cuerpos antes que servir y adorar a otro dios.

29 T herefore I make a decree, that in every people, nation, and language, he who shall speak anything amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego, shall be cut in pieces, and his house shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that is able to deliver after this sort.

»Por tanto, yo decreto que todo pueblo, nación o lengua que profiera alguna blasfemia contra el Dios de Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego, sea descuartizado, y que su casa sea convertida en muladar. ¡Porque ningún dios hay que pueda salvar como este Dios!»

30 T hen the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego in the province of Babylon.

Después de esto, el rey exaltó a Sadrac, Mesac y Abednego en la provincia de Babilonia.
