1 A nd it came to pass in the seventh month, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah the son of Elishama, of the royal seed, and of the king's chief men, and ten men with him, came to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam unto Mizpah, and there they ate bread together, in Mizpah.

En el mes séptimo, Ismael hijo de Netanías, hijo de Elisama, de la descendencia real, fue a Mispá para visitar a Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, y allí en Mispá comieron pan juntos. Lo acompañaban algunos príncipes del rey y otros diez hombres.

2 A nd Ishmael the son of Nethaniah arose, and the ten men that were with him, and smote Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan with the sword, and killed him, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

De pronto, Ismael hijo de Netanías y los diez hombres que con él estaban se levantaron y, con sus espadas, hirieron a Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, hijo de Safán. Así mataron a quien el rey de Babilonia había nombrado gobernador del país.

3 A nd Ishmael smote all the Jews that were with him, with Gedaliah, at Mizpah, and the Chaldeans that were found there, the men of war.

Ismael mató también a todos los judíos que estaban en Mispá con Gedalías, y a los soldados caldeos que allí se encontraban.

4 A nd it came to pass the second day after he had killed Gedaliah, and no man knew it,

Un día después, cuando aún nadie sabía que Ismael había matado a Gedalías,

5 t hat there came men from Shechem, from Shiloh, and from Samaria, eighty men, having their beards shaven and their clothes rent, and having cut themselves; with oblations and incense in their hand, to bring them to the house of Jehovah.

unos ochenta hombres llegaron de Siquén, de Silo y de Samaria. Venían con la barba raída y con los vestidos rasgados, y con heridas en el cuerpo, y en sus manos traían una ofrenda e incienso para llevarlos a la casa del Señor.

6 A nd Ishmael the son of Nethaniah went forth from Mizpah to meet them, weeping all along as he went; and it came to pass when he met them, he said unto them, Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam.

Desde Mispá, Ismael hijo de Netanías les salió al encuentro. Iba todo lloroso. Cuando los encontró, les dijo: «Vengan a ver a Gedalías hijo de Ajicán.»

7 A nd it was so, when they came into the midst of the city, that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, he and the men that were with him, slew them, into the midst of the pit.

En cuanto aquellos hombres estuvieron dentro de la ciudad, Ismael hijo de Netanías y los hombres que estaban con él los degollaron, y luego los echaron dentro de una cisterna.

8 B ut ten men were found among them that said unto Ishmael, Do not kill us, for we have hidden stores in the field, of wheat, and of barley, and of oil, and of honey. So he forbore, and did not kill them among their brethren.

Pero entre esos hombres había diez que le dijeron a Ismael: «No nos mates. En el campo tenemos mucho trigo y cebada, y aceite y miel.» A esos diez, Ismael los dejó con vida.

9 A nd the pit into which Ishmael had cast all the dead bodies of the men whom he had slain by the side of Gedaliah was the one which Asa the king had made for fear of Baasha king of Israel: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah filled it with the slain.

La cisterna en donde Ismael hijo de Netanías arrojó los cadáveres de todos los hombres que había matado por causa de Gedalías era la misma que el rey Asa había hecho para defenderse de Basá rey de Israel. Pero Ismael la llenó de muertos.

10 A nd Ishmael carried away captive all the remnant of the people that were in Mizpah, the king's daughters, and all the people that remained in Mizpah, whom Nebuzar-adan the captain of the body-guard had committed to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam: Ishmael the son of Nethaniah carried them away captive, and departed to go over to the children of Ammon.

Después Ismael se pasó al bando de los amonitas, y se llevó cautivos a los sobrevivientes que había en Mispá, a las hijas del rey, y a todo el pueblo que Nabuzaradán, el capitán de la guardia, había dejado a cargo de Gedalías hijo de Ajicán.

11 A nd Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, heard of all the evil that Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had done;

Cuando Johanán hijo de Careaj y todos los jefes de los soldados que estaban con él supieron todo el mal que había hecho Ismael hijo de Netanías,

12 a nd they took all the men, and went to fight with Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and found him by the great waters that are at Gibeon.

tomaron a todos sus hombres y fueron a pelear contra Ismael hijo de Netanías, al que hallaron junto al gran estanque que está en Gabaón.

13 A nd it came to pass when all the people that were with Ishmael saw Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, then they were glad.

Toda la gente que Ismael tenía prisionera se alegró al ver a Johanán hijo de Careaj y a todos los capitanes de soldados que lo acompañaban.

14 A nd all the people that Ishmael had carried away captive from Mizpah turned about and came back, and went to Johanan the son of Kareah.

Entonces todos los cautivos que Ismael había traído desde Mispá se volvieron contra él y se unieron a Johanán hijo de Careaj,

15 B ut Ishmael the son of Nethaniah escaped from Johanan with eight men, and went to the children of Ammon.

pero Ismael hijo de Netanías se escapó de Johanán con ocho hombres, y se fue al país de los amonitas.

16 T hen Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were with him, took all the remnant of the people whom he had recovered from Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, from Mizpah, after he had slain Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the mighty men of war, and the women, and the children, and the eunuchs, whom he had brought again from Gibeon;

Entonces Johanán hijo de Careaj y todos los jefes de soldados que estaban con él tomaron al resto del pueblo que había rescatado de manos de Ismael hijo de Netanías, es decir, a los soldados, mujeres, niños y eunucos que Johanán había traído de Gabaón y que Ismael se había llevado de Mispá después de matar a Gedalías hijo de Ajicán,

17 a nd they departed, and dwelt at Geruth-Chimham, which is by Bethlehem, to go to enter into Egypt,

y se fueron y habitaron en Guerut Quimán, que está cerca de Belén, con la intención de emigrar a Egipto,

18 b ecause of the Chaldeans; for they feared them, because Ishmael the son of Nethaniah had smitten Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land.

pues por haberle dado muerte Ismael hijo de Netanías a Gedalías hijo de Ajicán, al cual el rey de Babilonia había puesto para gobernar la tierra, tenían miedo de los caldeos.
