1 A nd it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to take heed to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that Jehovah thy God will set thee supreme above all nations of the earth;

»Si tú escuchas con atención la voz del Señor tu Dios, y cumples y pones en práctica todos los mandamientos que hoy te mando cumplir, el Señor tu Dios te exaltará sobre todas las naciones de la tierra.

2 a nd all these blessings shall come on thee and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God.

Si escuchas la voz del Señor tu Dios, todas estas bendiciones vendrán sobre ti, y te alcanzarán:

3 B lessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

»Bendito serás tú en la ciudad, y bendito en el campo.

4 B lessed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy cattle, the offspring of thy kine, and the increase of thy sheep.

»Bendito será el fruto de tu vientre, el fruto de tu tierra, el fruto de tus bestias, y las crías de tus vacas y los rebaños de tus ovejas.

5 B lessed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough.

»Benditas serán tu canasta y tu artesa de amasar.

6 B lessed shalt thou be in thy coming in, and blessed shalt thou be in thy going out.

»Bendito serás cuando entres, y bendito cuando salgas.

7 J ehovah will give up, smitten before thee, thine enemies that rise up against thee; they shall come out against thee one way, and by seven ways shall they flee before thee.

»El Señor derrotará a tus enemigos que se levanten contra ti. Por un camino saldrán contra ti, y por siete caminos huirán de ti.

8 J ehovah will command blessing on thee in thy granaries, and in all the business of thy hand; and he will bless thee in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

»El Señor enviará su bendición sobre tus graneros y sobre todo aquello en que pongas tu mano, y te bendecirá en la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te da.

9 J ehovah will establish thee unto himself a holy people as he hath sworn unto thee, if thou keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, and walk in his ways.

»El Señor te confirmará como su pueblo santo, tal y como te lo ha jurado, siempre y cuando cumplas los mandamientos del Señor tu Dios, y sigas sus caminos.

10 A nd all peoples of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of Jehovah, and they shall be afraid of thee.

Todos los pueblos de la tierra verán que el nombre del Señor es invocado sobre ti, y te temerán.

11 A nd Jehovah will give thee abundance of good, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land that Jehovah swore unto thy fathers to give thee.

»En el país que el Señor juró a tus padres que te daría, el Señor hará que sobreabundes en bienes, y en el fruto de tu vientre, y en el fruto de tus animales, y en el fruto de tu tierra.

12 J ehovah will open to thee his good treasure, the heavens, to give rain unto thy land in its season, and to bless all the work of thy hand; and thou shalt lend unto many nations, but thou shalt not borrow.

»El Señor te abrirá su tesoro de bondad, que es el cielo, y en su tiempo te enviará la lluvia a tu tierra, y bendecirá todo lo que hagas con tus manos. Harás préstamos a muchas naciones, pero tú no pedirás prestado nada.

13 A nd Jehovah will make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if thou hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah thy God, which I command thee this day, to keep and to do them,

»El Señor te pondrá por cabeza, no por cola. Estarás por encima de todo, nunca por debajo, siempre y cuando obedezcas y cumplas los mandamientos del Señor tu Dios, que hoy te ordeno cumplir,

14 a nd if thou turn not aside from any of the words that I command thee this day, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

y siempre y cuando no te apartes ni a diestra ni a siniestra de todas las palabras que hoy te mando cumplir, ni vayas en pos de dioses ajenos y les sirvas. Consecuencias de la desobediencia

15 B ut it shall come to pass if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to take heed to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day, that all these curses shall come upon thee and overtake thee.

»Si no oyes la voz del Señor tu Dios ni procuras cumplir todos los mandamientos y estatutos que hoy te mando cumplir, vendrán sobre ti, y te alcanzarán, todas estas maldiciones:

16 C ursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.

»Maldito serás tú en la ciudad, y maldito en el campo.

17 C ursed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough.

»Maldita será tu canasta, y tu tabla de amasar.

18 C ursed shall be the fruit of thy womb, and the fruit of thy ground, the offspring of thy kine, and the increase of thy sheep.

»Maldito será el fruto de tu vientre, el fruto de tu tierra, las crías de tus vacas y los rebaños de tus ovejas.

19 C ursed shalt thou be in thy coming in, and cursed shalt thou be in thy going out.

»Maldito serás cuando entres, y maldito serás cuando salgas.

20 J ehovah will send upon thee cursing, confusion, and rebuke, in all the business of thy hand which thou doest, until thou be destroyed and until thou perish quickly, because of the wickedness of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.

»El Señor enviará contra ti maldición, quebranto y asombro en todo lo que emprendas, hasta que de pronto seas destruido y perezcas por causa de la maldad de tus obras, por las cuales lo hayas dejado.

21 J ehovah will make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land whither thou goest to possess it.

»El Señor traerá sobre ti mortandad hasta consumirte en la tierra de la cual vas a tomar posesión.

22 J ehovah will smite thee with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with burning ague, and with drought, and with blight, and with mildew, and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.

»El Señor te herirá con tisis y con fiebre, con inflamación y ardores, con sequía y calamidad repentina, y con hongos, los cuales te perseguirán hasta que perezcas.

23 A nd thy heavens which are over thy head shall be brass, and the earth which is under thee, iron.

Los cielos que cubren tu cabeza serán como el bronce, y la tierra que pisas será como el hierro.

24 J ehovah will give as the rain of thy land powder and dust; from the heavens shall it come down upon thee until thou be destroyed.

En vez de lluvia, el Señor enviará polvo y ceniza a tu tierra, y desde los cielos caerán sobre ti hasta que perezcas.

25 J ehovah will give thee up smitten before thine enemies; thou shalt go out against them one way, and by seven ways shalt thou flee before them; and thou shalt be driven hither and thither into all the kingdoms of the earth.

»El Señor hará que seas derrotado delante de tus enemigos. Por un camino saldrás contra ellos, y por siete caminos huirás de ellos, y todos los reinos de la tierra te humillarán.

26 A nd thy carcase shall be meat unto all the fowl of the air, and unto the beasts of the earth, and there shall be no man to scare them away.

Tus cadáveres servirán de comida a todas las aves del cielo y a todas las fieras de la tierra, y no habrá quien las espante.

27 J ehovah will smite thee with the ulcers of Egypt, and with boils, and with the scab, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed.

»El Señor te herirá con las úlceras de Egipto, y con tumores, sarna y comezón, y no podrás ser curado.

28 J ehovah will smite thee with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart;

»El Señor te herirá con locura, ceguera y confusión.

29 a nd thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways; and thou shalt be only oppressed and spoiled continually, and there shall be none to save.

A plena luz del día andarás a tientas, como ciego, y no tendrás éxito en lo que hagas; al contrario, en todo momento serás oprimido y despojado, sin que haya quien te salve.

30 T hou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her; thou shalt build a house, and thou shalt not dwell therein; thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not eat of it.

Te comprometerás en matrimonio, pero otro hombre se acostará con tu prometida; construirás una casa, pero nunca llegarás a habitarla; plantarás viñas, pero nunca disfrutarás de sus uvas.

31 T hine ox shall be slaughtered before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof; thine ass shall be snatched away from before thy face, and shall not return to thee; thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to recover them.

Ante tus propios ojos matarán a tu buey, pero tú no comerás de su carne; ante tus propios ojos te arrebatarán tu asno, y jamás te lo devolverán; tus ovejas serán entregadas a tus enemigos, y tú no podrás impedirlo.

32 T hy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people, and thine eyes shall look, and languish for them all the day long; and there shall be no power in thy hand.

Ante tus propios ojos tus hijos y tus hijas serán entregados a otra gente, y tú no podrás impedirlo, y día tras día tus ojos desfallecerán esperando que vuelvan.

33 T he fruit of thy ground and all thy labour, shall a people that thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed continually.

Gente que jamás conociste se comerá el fruto de tu tierra y de todo tu trabajo, y día tras día serás oprimido y quebrantado.

34 A nd thou shalt be mad through the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

Lo que veas con tus ojos te hará perder el juicio.

35 J ehovah will smite thee in the knees and in the legs with evil ulcers, whereof thou canst not be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the top of thy head.

»El Señor te herirá con pústula maligna en las rodillas y en las piernas, y desde la planta del pie hasta la coronilla, y no podrás ser sanado.

36 J ehovah will bring thee, and thy king whom thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation that neither thou nor thy fathers have known, and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.

»El Señor te llevará a ti, y al rey que hayas puesto para que te gobierne, a una nación que ni tú ni tus padres conocieron, y allá servirás a dioses ajenos de palo y de piedra.

37 A nd thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples whither Jehovah shall lead thee.

Serás motivo de horror, y objeto de comentarios y de burlas de todos los pueblos a donde el Señor te lleve.

38 T hou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather little in; for the locust shall devour it.

Sembrarás mucha semilla en el campo, y cosecharás muy poco, porque la langosta la consumirá.

39 T hou shalt plant and till vineyards, but shalt drink no wine, nor gather; for the worms shall eat it.

Plantarás viñas, y las cultivarás, pero no vendimiarás las uvas ni beberás el vino, porque los gusanos se las comerán.

40 O live-trees shalt thou have throughout all thy borders, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with oil; for thine olive-tree shall cast its fruit.

Tendrás olivos por todo tu territorio, pero no te ungirás con el aceite, porque las aceitunas se caerán.

41 S ons and daughters shalt thou beget, but thou shalt not have them; for they shall go into captivity.

Tendrás hijos e hijas, pero no los retendrás, porque serán llevados en cautiverio.

42 A ll thy trees and the fruit of thy ground shall the locust possess.

Todos tus árboles y todos los frutos de tu tierra serán consumidos por la langosta.

43 T he sojourner that is in thy midst shall rise above thee higher and higher, and thou shalt sink down lower and lower.

Los extranjeros que vivan en tus ciudades se alzarán por encima de ti, mientras que tú caerás muy bajo.

44 H e shall lend to thee, but thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.

Ellos te harán préstamos, pero tú no podrás prestarles nada; ellos serán la cabeza, y tú serás la cola.

45 A nd all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, until thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee.

»Todas estas maldiciones vendrán sobre ti, y te perseguirán y te alcanzarán hasta acabar contigo, por no haber atendido a la voz del Señor tu Dios para cumplir los mandamientos y los estatutos que él te mandó cumplir,

46 A nd they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.

y para siempre serán en ti y en tu descendencia una señal y una prueba.

47 B ecause thou servedst not Jehovah thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, for the abundance of everything,

»Puesto que no serviste al Señor tu Dios con alegría y con gozo de corazón cuando él te dio abundancia de todo,

48 t hou shalt serve thine enemies whom Jehovah will send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of everything; and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.

acabarás siendo esclavo de los enemigos que el Señor envíe contra ti; sufrirás de hambre y de sed, y carecerás de ropa y de todas las cosas. ¡El Señor pondrá sobre tu cuello un yugo de hierro, hasta destruirte!

49 J ehovah will bring a nation against thee from afar, from the end of the earth, like as the eagle flieth, a nation whose tongue thou understandest not;

»De muy lejos, del otro extremo de la tierra, el Señor traerá contra ti una nación que vuela como el águila. Es una nación cuya lengua no entiendes,

50 a nation of fierce countenance, which regardeth not the person of the old, nor is kind to the young;

gente de rostro feroz, que no respeta a los ancianos ni perdona a los niños.

51 a nd he shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy ground, until thou be destroyed; for he shall not leave thee corn, new wine, or oil, offspring of thy kine, or increase of thy sheep, until he have destroyed thee.

Y se comerá las crías de tus ganados y los frutos de tu tierra, hasta hacerte perecer. No te dejará nada de trigo, ni de mosto, ni de aceite, ni una sola cría de tus vacas ni de los rebaños de tus ovejas, hasta que te haya destruido.

52 A nd he shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and strong walls wherein thou trustedst come down, throughout all thy land; and he shall besiege thee in all thy gates in all thy land, which Jehovah thy God hath given thee.

Sitiará todas las ciudades de tu tierra, hasta derribar esas altas y sólidas murallas en las que tú confías. Sitiará todas tus ciudades y toda la tierra que el Señor tu Dios te ha dado.

53 A nd in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee, thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters whom Jehovah thy God hath given thee.

Durante el sitio, y en la desesperación y la angustia ante el enemigo, te comerás el fruto de tu vientre, ¡la carne de tus propios hijos e hijas que el Señor tu Dios te dio!

54 T he eye of the man in thy midst that is tender and very luxurious shall be evil towards his brother, and the wife of his bosom, and the residue of his children which he hath left;

Aun los más sensibles y delicados de tus hombres mirarán con malos ojos a su hermano, y a la mujer amada, y al resto de sus hijos que le queden,

55 s o that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children that he eateth, because he hath nothing left him in the siege and in the straitness wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee in all thy gates.

y no querrá compartir con ellos la carne de sus hijos. Porque durante el asedio será tal la angustia con que tu enemigo te oprimirá en todas tus ciudades, que la gente se comerá a sus propios hijos por no haber ya nada qué comer.

56 T he eye of the tender and luxurious woman in thy midst who would not attempt to set the sole of her foot upon the ground from luxuriousness and from tenderness, shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and her son, and her daughter,

La mujer más tierna y delicada entre ustedes, que por ser tan tierna y delicada jamás intentaría posar la planta de su pie sobre la tierra, mirará con malos ojos a su esposo amado, y a su hijo y a su hija,

57 b ecause of her afterbirth which hath come out between her feet, and her children whom she shall bear; for she shall secretly eat them for want of everything in the siege and in the straitness wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.

y hasta al hijo que acaba de dar a luz, y se los comerá a escondidas, pues durante el asedio a tus ciudades, y en medio de la angustia y opresión del enemigo, habrá carencia de todo.

58 I f thou wilt not take heed to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, to fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH THY GOD;

»Si no tienes cuidado de poner por obra todas las palabras de esta ley escritas en este libro, ni temes este nombre glorioso y temible: EL SEÑOR TU DIOS,

59 t hen Jehovah will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, great and persistent plagues and evil and persistent sicknesses;

entonces el Señor aumentará en gran manera tus plagas y las plagas de tu descendencia, plagas grandes y permanentes, y enfermedades malignas y duraderas,

60 a nd he will bring upon thee all the diseases of Egypt which thou art afraid of, and they shall cleave unto thee.

y traerá sobre ti todos los males de Egipto, delante de los cuales temiste, y no te dejarán en paz.

61 A lso every sickness and every plague which is not written in the book of this law, them will Jehovah bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

Así mismo, el Señor enviará sobre ti toda enfermedad y toda plaga no escrita en el libro de esta ley, hasta que seas destruido.

62 A nd ye shall be left a small company, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou hast not hearkened to the voice of Jehovah thy God.

En lugar de haber sido innumerables como las estrellas del cielo, muy pocos de ustedes sobrevivirán, por no haber obedecido a la voz del Señor su Dios.

63 A nd it shall come to pass, that as Jehovah rejoiced over you to do you good and to multiply you, so Jehovah will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whereunto thou goest to possess it.

Y así como el Señor se alegraba de hacerles bien y de multiplicarlos, así se alegrará de arruinarlos y destruirlos. ¡Serán arrancados de la tierra de la cual van a tomar posesión!

64 A nd Jehovah will scatter thee among all peoples, from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; and thou shalt there serve other gods, whom thou hast not known, neither thou nor thy fathers, wood and stone.

»El Señor te esparcirá por todos los pueblos, de un extremo al otro de la tierra; allí servirás a dioses ajenos de madera y de piedra, que ni tú ni tus padres conocieron jamás.

65 A nd among these nations shalt thou have no rest, neither shall the sole of thy foot have a resting-place, and Jehovah shall give thee there a trembling heart, languishing of the eyes, and pining of the soul.

Ni siquiera entre estas naciones descansarás, ni la planta de tu pie hallará reposo, pues allí el Señor te dará un corazón temeroso, y tus ojos desfallecerán y tu ánimo decaerá;

66 A nd thy life shall hang in suspense before thee; and thou shalt be in terror day and night and shalt be afraid of thy life.

tu vida estará en constante peligro, y el miedo te dominará noche y día, y no tendrás la vida segura.

67 I n the morning thou shalt say, Would that it were even! and in the evening thou shalt say, Would that it were morning! through the fright of thy heart wherewith thou shalt be in terror, and through the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

Será tal el miedo que dominará tu corazón, y tan terrible lo que verán tus ojos, que por la mañana dirás: “¡Cómo quisiera que ya fuera tarde!”, y por la tarde dirás: “¡Cómo quisiera que ya fuera otro día!”

68 A nd Jehovah will bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I said unto thee, Thou shalt see it again no more; and there ye shall be sold unto your enemies for bondmen and bondwomen, and there shall be no man to buy.

»El Señor te hará volver a Egipto en naves, por el camino por el cual te había dicho que nunca más volverías, y allí ustedes serán vendidos a sus enemigos como esclavos y esclavas, ¡y no habrá nadie que los compre!»
