1 T he Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; but a foolish son is the grief of his mother.

2 T reasures of wickedness profit nothing; but righteousness delivereth from death.

3 J ehovah suffereth not the soul of the righteous to famish; but he repelleth the craving of the wicked.

El Señor no deja que el justo pase hambre, pero rechaza la iniquidad de los impíos.

4 H e cometh to want that dealeth with a slack hand; but the hand of the diligent maketh rich.

Las manos negligentes llevan a la pobreza; las manos diligentes conducen a la riqueza.

5 H e that gathereth in summer is a wise son; he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.

Cosechar en el verano es pensar con sensatez; Dormirse en la cosecha es no tener vergüenza.

6 B lessings are upon the head of a righteous; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.

La cabeza del justo se cubre de bendiciones; la boca de los impíos encubre violencia.

7 T he memory of the righteous shall be blessed; but the name of the wicked shall rot.

Recordar a los justos es una bendición; nombrar a los impíos resulta repugnante.

8 T he wise in heart receiveth commandments; but a prating fool shall fall.

El sabio de corazón hace suyos los mandamientos; el necio de labios acabará por caer.

9 H e that walketh in integrity walketh securely; but he that perverteth his ways shall be known.

El de vida íntegra vive confiado; el de conducta perversa será descubierto.

10 H e that winketh with the eye causeth grief, and a prating fool shall fall.

El que guiña el ojo acarrea tristeza; el necio de labios será castigado.

11 T he mouth of a righteous is a fountain of life; but the mouth of the wicked covereth violence.

La boca del justo es un manantial de vida, pero la boca del impío disimula su violencia.

12 H atred stirreth up strifes; but love covereth all transgressions.

El odio despierta rencillas; pero el amor cubre todas las faltas.

13 I n the lips of an intelligent wisdom is found; but a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.

La sabiduría se halla en labios del prudente; la vara es para las espaldas del falto de cordura.

14 T he wise lay up knowledge; but the mouth of the fool is near destruction.

Los sabios atesoran el conocimiento; la boca del necio es calamidad cercana.

15 T he rich man's wealth is his strong city; the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

El rico se atrinchera tras sus riquezas; el pobre se refugia en su pobreza.

16 T he labour of a righteous to life; the revenue of a wicked, to sin.

Con sus obras, el justo se gana la vida; con sus frutos, el impío se dedica a pecar.

17 K eeping instruction is the path to life; but he that forsaketh reproof goeth astray.

Acatar la corrección conduce a la vida; desechar la reprensión es perder el camino.

18 H e that covereth hatred hath lying lips, and he that sendeth forth a slander is a fool.

Miente quien disimula su odio; es un necio quien propaga calumnias.

19 I n the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; but he that restraineth his lips doeth wisely.

En las muchas palabras no falta el pecado; el que es prudente refrena sus labios.

20 T he tongue of the righteous is choice silver; the heart of the wicked is little worth.

La lengua del justo es plata escogida; la mente impía es lo mismo que nada.

21 T he lips of a righteous feed many; but fools die for want of understanding.

Con sus labios el justo dirige a muchos; los necios mueren por falta de cordura.

22 T he blessing of Jehovah, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow to it.

La bendición del Señor es un tesoro; nunca viene acompañada de tristeza.

23 I t is as sport to a foolish to do wickedness; but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

El necio se divierte cometiendo maldades; el sabio se recrea con la sabiduría.

24 T he fear of a wicked, it shall come upon him; but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.

El impío es víctima de sus grandes temores; los justos reciben lo que más desean.

25 A s a whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no; but the righteous is an everlasting foundation.

El malvado pasa como un torbellino, pero el justo permanece para siempre.

26 A s vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

El que envía a un mensajero perezoso se echa vinagre en los dientes y humo en los ojos.

27 T he fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

El temor del Señor alarga la vida, pero los años del impío son acortados.

28 T he hope of the righteous is joy; but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

La esperanza de los justos es su alegría; la esperanza de los impíos se esfuma.

29 T he way of Jehovah is strength to the perfect, but destruction to the workers of iniquity.

El camino del Señor fortalece al perfecto, pero destruye a los que hacen el mal.

30 T he righteous shall never be moved; but the wicked shall not inhabit the land.

El justo jamás tendrá un tropiezo, pero los impíos no habitarán la tierra.

31 T he mouth of a righteous putteth forth wisdom; but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

De la boca del justo mana sabiduría, pero la lengua perversa será extirpada.

32 T he lips of a righteous know what is acceptable; but the mouth of the wicked is frowardness.

Los labios del justo dicen palabras gratas; la boca de los impíos arroja perversidades.
