1 A nd Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

Josué reunió en Siquén a todas las tribus de Israel, llamó a los ancianos de Israel, a los jefes de tribu, y a los jueces y oficiales, y todos se presentaron ante Dios.

2 A nd Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith Jehovah the God of Israel: Your fathers dwelt of old on the other side of the river, Terah, the father of Abraham and the father of Nahor, and they served other gods.

Entonces Josué le dijo a todo el pueblo: «Así dice el Señor, Dios de Israel: “Hace mucho tiempo su antepasado Téraj, padre de Abrahán y de Najor, habitaba al otro lado del río y servía a otros dioses.

3 A nd I took your father Abraham from the other side of the river, and led him throughout the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed and gave him Isaac.

Pero de aquel lado del río llamé a Abrahán, el padre de ustedes, y lo conduje por toda la tierra de Canaán; le di un hijo, que fue Isaac, e hice que tuviera una descendencia numerosa.

4 A nd I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau; and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; and Jacob and his sons went down into Egypt.

Isaac fue el padre de Jacob y de Esaú. A Esaú le di en propiedad el monte de Seir, pero Jacob y sus hijos se fueron a vivir a Egipto.

5 A nd I sent Moses and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them; and afterwards I brought you out.

Después envié a Moisés y a Aarón, y herí a todo Egipto e hice prodigios en ese país, y más tarde los saqué de allí.

6 A nd I brought your fathers out of Egypt, and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.

Cuando sus padres salieron de Egipto y llegaron al mar Rojo, vieron que los egipcios los seguían con carros y caballería,

7 T hen they cried to Jehovah, and he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes saw what I did in Egypt; and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long time.

y se llenaron de miedo; pero me pidieron ayuda y yo, el Señor, oscurecí el camino de los egipcios, y el mar se les vino encima y los cubrió. Ustedes son testigos oculares de todo lo que hice en Egipto. Después de eso, anduvieron mucho tiempo por el desierto.

8 A nd I brought you into the land of the Amorites, who dwelt beyond the Jordan, and they fought with you, and I gave them into your hand, and ye took possession of their land, and I destroyed them from before you.

Más tarde los introduje en la tierra que habitaban los amorreos, al otro lado del Jordán, y aunque ellos pelearon contra ustedes, yo los vencí, y ya destruidos los puse en sus manos y les entregué sus tierras.

9 A nd Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you;

Después Balac hijo de Sipor, que era rey de los moabitas, se levantó en armas para pelear contra Israel, y mandó llamar a Balaam hijo de Beor, para que los maldijera.

10 b ut I would not hearken unto Balaam, and he blessed you expressly, and I delivered you out of his hand.

Pero yo no hice caso de las maldiciones de Balaam, y en lugar de maldecirlos los bendijo varias veces, y así los libré del rey Balac.

11 A nd ye went over the Jordan, and came unto Jericho, and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.

Ustedes cruzaron el Jordán y vinieron a Jericó, y sus habitantes pelearon contra ustedes: los amorreos, los ferezeos, los cananeos, los hititas, los gergeseos, los jivitas y jebuseos, pero yo los vencí y los puse en sus manos.

12 A nd I sent the hornet before you, which drove them out from before you, the two kings of the Amorites; not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

Antes que ustedes llegaran envié tábanos, y los dos reyes de los amorreos huyeron a toda prisa, sin que yo usara tu espada ni tu arco.

13 A nd I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

Yo les he dado a ustedes tierras que no trabajaron, ciudades que no edificaron, y hasta comen de las viñas y olivares que no plantaron.”

14 A nd now fear Jehovah and serve him in perfectness and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the river, and in Egypt; and serve Jehovah.

»Por todo esto, respeten y honren al Señor. Sírvanle con integridad y de todo corazón. Echen fuera a los dioses que sus padres adoraron en el otro lado del río y en Egipto, y que aún están entre ustedes, y en su lugar sirvan al Señor.

15 A nd if it seem evil unto you to serve Jehovah, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods whom your fathers that were on the other side of the river served, or the gods of the Amorite, in whose land ye dwell; but as for me and my house, we will serve Jehovah.

Pero si no les parece bien servirle, escojan hoy a quién quieren servir, si a los dioses que sus padres adoraron cuando aún estaban al otro lado del río, o a los dioses que sirven los amorreos en esta tierra donde ahora ustedes viven. Por mi parte, mi casa y yo serviremos al Señor.»

16 A nd the people answered and said, Far be it from us that we should forsake Jehovah, to serve other gods;

El pueblo respondió: «¡Jamás dejaremos al Señor por servir a otros dioses!

17 f or Jehovah our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and who did those great signs before our eyes, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed!

¡El Señor es nuestro Dios! Fue él quien nos sacó, a nosotros y a nuestros padres, del país donde éramos esclavos. Hizo grandes señales en Egipto, y en todos los caminos por donde hemos andado, y en todos los pueblos por los que hemos cruzado, siempre nos ha protegido.

18 A nd Jehovah drove out from before us all the peoples, and the Amorites the inhabitants of the land: so therefore we will serve Jehovah, for he is our God.

El Señor arrojó de nuestra presencia a todos los pueblos, incluso a los amorreos que habitaban esta tierra. Así que nosotros serviremos al Señor, porque él es nuestro Dios.»

19 A nd Joshua said to the people, Ye cannot serve Jehovah, for he is a holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

Entonces Josué le dijo al pueblo: «Ustedes no pueden servir al Señor, porque él es un Dios santo y celoso, y no soporta rebeliones ni pecados.

20 I f ye forsake Jehovah, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

Si ustedes dejan al Señor para servir a otros dioses, él vendrá y les irá muy mal, porque los exterminará, ¡a pesar de haberles hecho tanto bien!»

21 A nd the people said to Joshua, No; but we will serve Jehovah.

El pueblo le respondió a Josué: «Eso no sucederá, porque nosotros serviremos al Señor.»

22 A nd Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you Jehovah, to serve him. And they said, witnesses.

Josué les contestó: «Ustedes mismos son sus propios testigos de que han elegido al Señor, y de que le van a servir.» Y ellos respondieron: «Lo somos.»

23 N ow therefore put away the strange gods that are among you, and incline your heart unto Jehovah the God of Israel.

Entonces Josué les dijo: «Echen fuera ahora mismo los dioses ajenos que están entre ustedes, y humíllense de corazón ante el Señor y Dios de Israel.»

24 A nd the people said unto Joshua, Jehovah our God will we serve, and to his voice will we hearken.

Y el pueblo le respondió: «Al Señor nuestro Dios serviremos, y obedeceremos su voz.»

25 S o Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

Ese mismo día Josué hizo un pacto en Siquén con el pueblo, y le dio estatutos y leyes.

26 A nd Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under the oak that was by the sanctuary of Jehovah.

Estas palabras las escribió en el libro de la ley de Dios; luego tomó una gran piedra, la puso debajo de la encina que estaba junto al santuario del Señor,

27 A nd Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us, for it hath heard all the words of Jehovah which he spoke unto us; and it shall be a witness against you, lest ye deny your God.

y le dijo a todo el pueblo: «A partir de hoy esta piedra nos servirá de testigo, porque ante ella se han oído todas las palabras que el Señor nos ha dicho. Por lo tanto, ella será un testigo contra ustedes, para que no le mientan a su Dios.»

28 A nd Joshua dismissed the people, every man to his inheritance.

Después de eso, Josué despidió al pueblo, y cada uno se fue a su territorio. Muerte de Josué

29 A nd it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, a hundred and ten years old.

Después de estos sucesos murió Josué hijo de Nun, siervo del Señor, a la edad de ciento diez años.

30 A nd they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-serah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the mountain of Gaash.

Lo sepultaron en Timnat Seraj, que fue la parte que le tocó, y que está en el monte de Efraín, al norte del monte de Gaas.

31 A nd Israel served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders whose days were prolonged after Joshua, and who had known all the works of Jehovah, which he had done for Israel.

Durante todo el tiempo de vida de Josué y de los ancianos que le sobrevivieron, los cuales conocían todas las obras que el Señor había hecho en favor de Israel, el pueblo de Israel sirvió al Señor. Sepultan los huesos de José en Siquén

32 A nd the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel had brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem in the portion of the field which Jacob had bought of the sons of Hamor, Shechem's father, for a hundred kesitahs; and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

Los huesos de José, que los hijos de Israel habían traído de Egipto, fueron enterrados en Siquén, en el terreno que por cien piezas de plata Jacob compró a los hijos de Jamor, padre de Siquén. Ese terreno quedó en posesión de los hijos de José. Muerte de Eleazar

33 A nd Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in the hill of Phinehas his son, which had been given him in mount Ephraim.

También murió Eleazar hijo de Aarón, y fue enterrado en la colina de su hijo Finés, la cual le dieron en el monte de Efraín.
