1 H aving therefore these promises, beloved, let us purify ourselves from every pollution of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in God's fear.

Amados míos, puesto que tenemos tales promesas, limpiémonos de toda contaminación de carne y de espíritu, y perfeccionémonos en la santidad y en el temor de Dios. Regocijo de Pablo ante el arrepentimiento de los corintios

2 R eceive us: we have injured no one, we have ruined no one, we have made gain of no one.

Ábrannos su corazón, pues a nadie hemos agraviado, a nadie hemos corrompido, a nadie hemos engañado.

3 I do not speak for condemnation, for I have already said that ye are in our hearts, to die together, and live together.

No digo esto para condenarlos, pues ya antes les he dicho que están en nuestro corazón. ¡Juntos en la muerte, y juntos en la vida!

4 G reat my boldness towards you, great my exulting in respect of you; I am filled with encouragement; I overabound in joy under all our affliction.

Soy demasiado franco con ustedes, pero mi orgullo por ustedes también es demasiado. En medio de todas nuestras tribulaciones, me siento muy estimulado y estoy rebosando de alegría.

5 F or indeed, when we came into Macedonia, our flesh had no rest, but afflicted in every way; without combats, within fears.

Cuando llegamos de Macedonia, no tuvimos ningún descanso, sino que enfrentamos tribulaciones de todas partes: desde afuera, conflictos; desde adentro, temores.

6 B ut he who encourages those that are low, God, encouraged us by the coming of Titus;

Pero Dios, que consuela a los humildes, nos consoló con la llegada de Tito;

7 a nd not by his coming only, but also through the encouragement with which he was encouraged as to you; relating to us your ardent desire, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I the more rejoiced.

y no sólo con su llegada, sino también con el consuelo que él había recibido de parte de ustedes, pues nos habló del gran afecto que recibió por parte de ustedes, así como de su profunda tristeza y de su preocupación por mí, lo cual me hizo alegrarme aún más.

8 F or if also I grieved you in the letter, I do not regret, if even I have regretted it; for I see that that letter, if even only for a time, grieved you.

Ciertamente, mi carta fue para ustedes motivo de tristeza, y entonces lamenté haberla escrito porque vi que por algún tiempo ella los entristeció; pero ahora no lo lamento

9 N ow I rejoice, not that ye have been grieved, but that ye have been grieved to repentance; for ye have been grieved according to God, that in nothing ye might be injured by us.

sino que me alegro. Y no porque ustedes se hayan entristecido, sino porque esa tristeza los llevó al arrepentimiento. Ustedes fueron entristecidos conforme a la voluntad de Dios, de modo que en nada fueron perjudicados por parte de nosotros.

10 F or grief according to God works repentance to salvation, never to be regretted; but the grief of the world works death.

La tristeza que proviene de Dios produce arrepentimiento para salvación, y de ésta no hay que arrepentirse, pero la tristeza que proviene del mundo produce muerte.

11 F or, behold, this same thing, your being grieved according to God, how much diligence it wrought in you, but excusing, but indignation, but fear, but ardent desire, but zeal, but vengeance: in every way ye have proved yourselves to be pure in the matter.

¡Fíjense! Esta tristeza que provino de Dios, ¡produjo en ustedes preocupación, el deseo de disculparse, indignación, temor, vehemencia, celo, y deseos de hacer justicia! Es evidente que en este asunto ustedes no tuvieron la culpa.

12 S o then, if also I wrote to you, not for the sake of him that injured, nor for the sake of him that was injured, but for the sake of our diligent zeal for you being manifested to you before God.

Y aunque yo les escribí, no lo hice por el que cometió el agravio, ni por el que lo padeció, sino para que se hiciera evidente la preocupación que tenemos por ustedes delante de Dios.

13 F or this reason we have been encouraged. And we the rather rejoiced in our encouragement more abundantly by reason of the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all.

Por eso el consuelo de ustedes ha sido nuestro propio consuelo. Pero más nos alegró el ver a Tito tan feliz porque su espíritu fue confortado por todos ustedes.

14 B ecause if I boasted to him anything about you, I have not been put to shame; but as we have spoken to you all things in truth, so also our boasting to Titus has been truth;

Yo me había jactado de ustedes con él, y no he quedado mal. Y así como en todo les hemos hablado con la verdad, también resultaron ciertos los elogios que hice ante Tito acerca de ustedes.

15 a nd his affections are more abundantly towards you, calling to mind the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling ye received him.

Y el cariño que él les tiene es aun mayor cuando se acuerda de la obediencia de todos ustedes, y del temor y temblor con que ustedes lo recibieron.

16 I rejoice that in everything I am confident as to you.

Me alegra poder confiar plenamente en ustedes.
