1 A nd there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David inquired of Jehovah. And Jehovah said, It is for Saul, and for house of blood, because he slew the Gibeonites.

En esos días hubo una hambruna que duró tres años seguidos. David consultó al Señor por esto, y el Señor le dijo: «De esto tienen la culpa Saúl y su familia de asesinos, pues mataron a los gabaonitas.»

2 A nd the king called the Gibeonites, and spoke to them. (Now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remainder of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn to them; and Saul sought to smite them in his zeal for the children of Israel and Judah.)

Los gabaonitas no eran israelitas, sino un remanente de los amorreos, pero los israelitas habían hecho un pacto con ellos. Sin embargo, en su celo por los israelitas y los de Judá, Saúl había procurado matarlos. Por eso el rey David fue a hablar con ellos,

3 A nd David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and with what shall I make atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of Jehovah?

y les preguntó: «¿Qué puedo hacer por ustedes? ¿Cómo puedo resarcirlos, para que bendigan al pueblo del Señor?»

4 A nd the Gibeonites said to him, As to Saul and his house, it is with us no question of receiving silver or gold, neither is it for us to have any man put to death in Israel. And he said, What ye say will I do for you.

Los gabaonitas le respondieron: «No nos interesan el oro y la plata de Saúl y de su familia, ni tampoco queremos que muera nadie en Israel.» Pero el rey insistió: «Pídanme lo que quieran, y yo se lo daré.»

5 A nd they said to the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in all the borders of Israel,

Entonces ellos dijeron: «De ese hombre que quiso destruir a nuestra familia y que pensaba borrarnos de todo Israel,

6 l et seven men of his sons be given up to us, and we will hang them up to Jehovah in Gibeah of Saul, the chosen of Jehovah. And the king said, I will give.

queremos que nos des siete de sus hijos. Queremos ahorcarlos delante del Señor en Gabaa de Saúl, el que fue elegido del Señor.» El rey les dijo: «Los tendrán.»

7 B ut the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of Jehovah's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

Como David y Jonatán se habían hecho un juramento delante del Señor, el rey perdonó a Mefiboset, el que era hijo de Jonatán y nieto de Saúl,

8 A nd the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she had borne to Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she had borne to Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite;

pero entregó a los gabaonitas a los cinco hijos que Mical hija de Saúl había tenido con Adriel hijo de Barzilay, el mejolatita, y además a Armoni y al otro Mefiboset, que eran los dos hijos que Saúl había tenido con Rispá, la hija de Ayá.

9 a nd he gave them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them on the hill before Jehovah. And they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the first days of the harvest, in the beginning of barley harvest.

En cuanto los gabaonitas recibieron a esos siete varones, los llevaron al monte y delante del Señor los ahorcaron. Esto sucedió durante los primeros días de la cosecha de cebada.

10 T hen Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water poured on them out of the heavens, and suffered neither the fowl of the heavens to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.

Rispá, la hija de Ayá, tomó un cilicio y se acostó sobre él; lo tendió sobre una roca, y allí estuvo acostada, desde el inicio de la cosecha hasta que llegaron las lluvias, vigilando de día y de noche que no se acercaran las aves de rapiña ni las fieras salvajes.

11 A nd it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

Cuando David supo lo que estaba haciendo Rispá, hija de Ayá y concubina de Saúl,

12 A nd David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabesh-Gilead, who had stolen them from the open place of Beth-shan, where the Philistines had hanged them, the day the Philistines had smitten Saul in Gilboa;

decidió ir con los habitantes de Jabés de Galaad a recuperar los huesos de Saúl y de su hijo Jonatán, pues ellos los habían descolgado de la plaza de Betsán, donde los filisteos los habían colgado cuando mataron a Saúl en Gilboa.

13 a nd he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.

En cuanto David recuperó los huesos, ordenó que se los llevaran, junto con los huesos de los siete ahorcados,

14 A nd they buried with the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son in the country of Benjamin in Zela, in the sepulchre of Kish his father; and they did all that the king had commanded. And afterwards God was propitious to the land.

y que los sepultaran en el sepulcro de Cis, el padre de Saúl. Todo fue hecho tal y como el rey lo dispuso, y después de esto Dios se compadeció del país. Abisay libra a David del gigante

15 A nd the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought with the Philistines. And David was exhausted.

Los filisteos volvieron a pelear contra Israel, así que David y sus soldados presentaron batalla contra los filisteos, pero él se cansó.

16 A nd Ishbibenob, who was of the children of Raphah—the weight of his lance was three hundred shekels of bronze, and he was girded with new —thought to smite David.

Un descendiente de los gigantes, llamado Isbibenob, que portaba una lanza de bronce de más de treinta kilos y llevaba una espada nueva al cinto, trató de matar a David;

17 A nd Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore to him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the lamp of Israel.

pero Abisay hijo de Seruyá lo vio y fue en su ayuda, e hirió de muerte al filisteo. Entonces los hombres de David le dijeron: «De ahora en adelante, no volverás a salir con nosotros a la guerra; no vaya a ser que se apague la luz que alumbra a Israel.» Los hombres de David matan a los gigantes

18 A nd it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines, at Gob; then Sibbechai the Hushathite smote Saph, who was of the children of Raphah.

Tiempo después hubo en Gob otra guerra contra los filisteos. En esa guerra, Sibecay el husatita mató a Saf, que era descendiente de los gigantes.

19 A nd there was again a battle at Gob with the Philistines; and Elhanan the son of Jaare-oregim, a Bethlehemite, smote Goliath the Gittite; now the shaft of his spear was like a weaver's beam.

Y en otra guerra contra los filisteos, que se libró también en Gob, Eljanán hijo de Yaré Oreguín, de Belén, mató a Goliat de Gat, cuya lanza pesaba lo que un rodillo de telar.

20 A nd there was again a battle, at Gath; and there was a man of great stature, that had on each hand six fingers, and on each foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to Raphah.

Después, hubo otra guerra en Gat, donde había un gigante con doce dedos en las manos y doce dedos en los pies. También éste descendía de los gigantes,

21 A nd he defied Israel; but Jonathan the son of Shimea David's brother smote him.

y se atrevió a desafiar al ejército de Israel, pero le dio muerte Jonatán hijo de Simea, que era hermano de David.

22 T hese four were born to Raphah, in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Estos cuatro hombres, que descendían de los gigantes de Gat, sucumbieron a manos de David y de sus siervos.
