1 A nd Jehovah visited Sarah as he had said, and Jehovah did to Sarah as he had spoken.

El Señor visitó a Sara y actuó en ella tal y como se lo había prometido.

2 A nd Sarah conceived, and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the appointed time of which God had spoken to him.

Y Sara concibió y le dio un hijo a Abrahán en su vejez, en el tiempo preciso que Dios le había anunciado.

3 A nd Abraham called the name of his son who was born to him, whom Sarah bore to him, Isaac.

Al hijo que le nació a Abrahán, y que dio a luz Sara, Abrahán le puso por nombre Isaac.

4 A nd Abraham circumcised his son Isaac, being eight days old, as God had commanded him.

Abrahán circuncidó a su hijo Isaac a los ocho días de nacido, tal y como Dios se lo había ordenado.

5 A nd Abraham was a hundred years old when his son Isaac was born to him.

Cuando nació su hijo Isaac, Abrahán tenía cien años.

6 A nd Sarah said, God has made me laugh: all that hear will laugh with me.

Sara dijo entonces: «Dios me ha hecho reír, y todo el que lo sepa se reirá conmigo.»

7 A nd she said, Who would have said to Abraham, Sarah will suckle children? For I have borne a son in his old age.

Y añadió: «¿Quién le hubiera dicho a Abrahán que yo, Sara, habría de amamantar hijos? ¡Pues le he dado un hijo en su vejez!» Agar e Ismael son despedidos

8 A nd the child grew, and was weaned. And Abraham made a great feast on the day that Isaac was weaned.

El niño creció, y fue destetado. El día que Isaac fue destetado, Abrahán ofreció un gran banquete.

9 A nd Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, mocking.

Pero Sara vio que el hijo que Agar, la egipcia, le había dado a luz a Abrahán se burlaba de su hijo,

10 A nd she said to Abraham, Cast out this handmaid and her son; for the son of this handmaid shall not inherit with my son—with Isaac.

así que le dijo a Abrahán: «Despide a esta sierva y a su hijo, porque el hijo de una sierva no va a compartir la herencia con mi hijo Isaac.»

11 A nd the thing was very grievous in Abraham's sight because of his son.

Estas palabras le parecieron muy preocupantes a Abrahán, por causa de su hijo.

12 A nd God said to Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad and because of thy handmaid: all that Sarah hath said to thee hearken to her voice, for in Isaac shall a seed be called to thee.

Pero Dios le dijo a Abrahán: «No te preocupes demasiado por causa del niño ni de tu sierva. Hazle caso a Sara en todo lo que te diga, pues por medio de Isaac te vendrá descendencia;

13 B ut also the son of the handmaid will I make a nation, because he is thy seed.

aunque también del hijo de la sierva haré una nación, porque es descendiente tuyo.»

14 A nd Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a flask of water, and gave to Hagar, putting on her shoulder—and the child, and sent her away. And she departed, and wandered about in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.

Al día siguiente Abrahán madrugó, tomó pan y un odre con agua, y luego de ponérselo a Agar en el hombro, le entregó el niño y la despidió. Y ella salió y anduvo sin rumbo fijo por el desierto de Berseba.

15 A nd the water was exhausted from the flask; and she cast the child under one of the shrubs,

Cuando le faltó agua al odre, tendió al niño bajo un arbusto

16 a nd she went and sat down over against, a bow-shot off; for she said, Let me not behold the death of the child. And she sat over against, and lifted up her voice and wept.

y fue a sentarse frente a él a la distancia de un tiro de arco, pues decía: «No quiero ver cuando el niño muera.» Ya sentada frente a él, prorrumpió en llanto.

17 A nd God heard the voice of the lad. And the Angel of God called to Hagar from the heavens, and said to her, What thee, Hagar? Fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad there, where he is.

Pero Dios oyó la voz del niño. Entonces el ángel de Dios llamó a Agar desde el cielo, y le dijo: «¿Qué te pasa, Agar? No tengas miedo, que Dios ha oído la voz del niño ahí donde está.

18 A rise, take the lad, and hold him in thy hand; for I will make of him a great nation.

Vamos, levanta al niño y sosténlo de la mano, porque yo haré de él una gran nación.»

19 A nd God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went and filled the flask with water, and gave the lad drink.

Y Dios le abrió los ojos, y ella vio un manantial; entonces fue y llenó el odre con agua, y le dio de beber al niño.

20 A nd God was with the lad, and he grew; and he dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.

Y Dios estaba con el niño, y éste creció y se estableció en el desierto, y fue tirador de arco.

21 A nd he dwelt in the wilderness of Paran. And his mother took him a wife out of the land of Egypt.

Ya establecido en el desierto de Parán, su madre tomó para él una mujer de la tierra de Egipto. Pacto entre Abrahán y Abimelec

22 A nd it came to pass at that time that Abimelech, and Phichol the captain of his host, spoke to Abraham, saying, God is with thee in all that thou doest.

Por ese mismo tiempo sucedió que Abimelec fue a hablar con Abrahán, y lo acompañó Ficol, jefe de su ejército. Le dijo: «Dios está contigo en todo lo que haces.

23 A nd now swear to me here by God that thou wilt not deal deceitfully with me, nor with my son, nor with my grandson. According to the kindness that I have done to thee, thou shalt do to me, and to the land in which thou sojournest.

Así que júrame aquí mismo, por Dios, que no me tratarás mal a mí, ni a mi hijo ni a mi nieto, sino que me tratarás con la misma bondad con que te he tratado, y que harás lo mismo con la tierra en la que habitas.»

24 A nd Abraham said, I will swear.

Y Abrahán respondió: «Lo juro.»

25 A nd Abraham reproved Abimelech because of a well of water that Abimelech's servants had violently taken away.

Pero Abrahán reconvino a Abimelec por un pozo de agua que los siervos de Abimelec le habían quitado.

26 A nd Abimelech said, I do not know who has done this, neither hast thou told me, neither have I heard but to-day.

Y Abimelec respondió: «No sé quién haya hecho esto, ni tú me lo hiciste saber, y tampoco yo lo supe hasta hoy.»

27 A nd Abraham took sheep and oxen, and gave them to Abimelech; and both of them made a covenant.

Abrahán tomó entonces ovejas y vacas, y se las dio a Abimelec, y los dos hicieron un pacto.

28 A nd Abraham set seven ewe-lambs of the flock by themselves.

Del rebaño, Abrahán apartó siete corderas,

29 A nd Abimelech said to Abraham, What these seven ewe-lambs, these which thou hast set by themselves?

y Abimelec le preguntó a Abrahán: «Y estas siete corderas que has apartado, ¿qué significan?»

30 A nd he said, That thou take the seven ewe-lambs of my hand, that they may be a witness to me that I have dug this well.

Y él respondió: «Significan que vas a recibir de mi mano estas siete corderas, para que sirvan de testimonio en mi favor de que yo cavé este pozo.»

31 T herefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because there they had sworn, both of them.

Por eso a aquel lugar lo llamó Berseba; porque allí los dos hicieron un juramento.

32 A nd they made a covenant at Beer-sheba. And Abimelech rose up, and Phichol the captain of his host, and returned into the land of the Philistines.

Allí en Berseba hicieron un pacto. Luego se levantó Abimelec, y Ficol, el jefe de su ejército, y juntos volvieron a la tierra de los filisteos.

33 A nd planted a tamarisk in Beer-sheba, and called there on the name of Jehovah, the Eternal God.

En Berseba Abrahán plantó un árbol tamarisco, y allí invocó el nombre del Señor, el Dios eterno.

34 A nd Abraham sojourned in the Philistines' land many days.

Y Abrahán vivió mucho tiempo en la tierra de los filisteos.
