1 M y son, forget not my teaching, and let thy heart observe my commandments;

Hijo mío, no te olvides de mi ley; guarda en tu corazón mis mandamientos.

2 f or length of days, and years of life, and peace shall they add to thee.

Ellos prolongarán los años de tu vida y te traerán abundante paz.

3 L et not loving-kindness and truth forsake thee; bind them about thy neck, write them upon the tablet of thy heart:

No te apartes de la misericordia y la verdad; átalas alrededor de tu cuello, escríbelas en la tabla de tu corazón.

4 a nd thou shalt find favour and good understanding in the sight of God and man.

Así contarás con el favor de Dios, y con una buena opinión ante los hombres.

5 C onfide in Jehovah with all thy heart, and lean not unto thine own intelligence;

Confía en el Señor de todo corazón, y no te apoyes en tu propia prudencia.

6 i n all thy ways acknowledge him, and he will make plain thy paths.

Reconócelo en todos tus caminos, y él enderezará tus sendas.

7 B e not wise in thine own eyes; fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:

No seas sabio en tu propia opinión; teme al Señor y apártate del mal.

8 i t shall be health for thy navel, and moisture for thy bones.

Él será la medicina de tu cuerpo; ¡infundirá alivio a tus huesos!

9 H onour Jehovah with thy substance, and with the first-fruits of all thine increase;

Honra al Señor con tus bienes y con las primicias de tus cosechas.

10 s o shall thy barns be filled with plenty, and thy vats shall overflow with new wine.

Tus graneros se saturarán de trigo, y tus lagares rebosarán de vino.

11 M y son, despise not the instruction of Jehovah, neither be weary of his chastisement;

Hijo mío, no desdeñes la corrección del Señor; no te sientas mal cuando te reprenda.

12 f or whom Jehovah loveth he chasteneth, even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

El Señor corrige al que ama como lo hace el padre con su hijo amado.

13 B lessed is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding.

¡Dichoso el que halla la sabiduría y se encuentra con la inteligencia!

14 F or the gain thereof is better than the gain of silver, and her revenue than fine gold.

¡Son más provechosas que la plata! ¡Sus frutos son más valiosos que el oro refinado!

15 S he is more precious than rubies; and all the things thou canst desire are not equal unto her.

Son de más valor que las piedras preciosas; lo más deseable no es comparable a ellas.

16 L ength of days is in her right hand; in her left hand riches and honour.

Con la mano derecha ofrece una larga vida, y con la izquierda ofrece riquezas y honra.

17 H er ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace.

Sus caminos son un deleite, y en todas sus veredas hay paz.

18 S he is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is he that retaineth her.

La sabiduría es un árbol de vida para los que echan mano de ella; ¡dichosos los que no la sueltan!

19 J ehovah by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens.

Con sabiduría, el Señor fundó la tierra; con inteligencia, el Señor afirmó los cielos.

20 B y his knowledge the deeps were broken up, and the skies drop down the dew.

Con su sapiencia se abrieron los abismos, y destilaron las nubes su rocío.

21 M y son, let them not depart from thine eyes; keep sound wisdom and discretion:

Hijo mío, preserva la ley y el consejo; nunca pierdas esto de vista.

22 s o shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace unto thy neck.

Éstos infundirán vida a tu alma y adornarán tu cuello.

23 T hen shalt thou walk in thy way securely, and thy foot shall not stumble;

Así podrás andar confiado en tu camino, y nunca tus pies tropezarán.

24 w hen thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid, but thou shalt lie down and thy sleep shall be sweet.

No tendrás temor cuando te acuestes; te acostarás y tendrás gratos sueños.

25 B e not afraid of sudden fear, neither of the destruction of the wicked, when it cometh;

No temerás que de repente te asalten las calamidades que merecen los impíos.

26 f or Jehovah shall be thy confidence, and he will keep thy foot from being taken.

El Señor te infundirá confianza, y evitará que tus pies queden atrapados.

27 W ithhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thy hand to do it.

No te niegues a hacer los favores debidos, cuando en tu mano esté el hacerlos.

28 S ay not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to-morrow I will give, when thou hast it by thee.

Si hoy puedes ayudar a tu prójimo, no pospongas la ayuda para mañana.

29 D evise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

No hagas planes malvados contra tu prójimo; es tu prójimo y vive confiando en ti.

30 S trive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm.

No entables sin motivo pleitos contra nadie, mucho menos si no te han agraviado.

31 E nvy not the man of violence, and choose none of his ways.

No envidies a la gente violenta, ni escojas ninguno de sus caminos,

32 F or the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah; but his secret is with the upright.

porque al Señor le repugnan los perversos, pero es amigo de los hombres honrados.

33 T he curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; but he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.

Sobre la casa de los malvados recae la maldición del Señor; sobre la habitación de los justos permanece su bendición.

34 H e indeed scorneth the scorners; but he giveth grace unto the lowly.

El Señor se burla de los burlones, pero brinda su favor a los humildes.

35 T he wise shall inherit glory; but shame shall be the promotion of the foolish.

La herencia de los sabios es la honra; la de los necios, la deshonra.
